The Things That Married Toys Do

“So, um... I, uh... I guess we’re married now...” 

Jessie couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her. 

Because Buzz, oh so sweet Buzz, still had that bashful stutter about him. He couldn’t quite seem to get rid of it fully, even after all the years they’d come to know each other. But Jessie didn’t really want it to go away. It was just another one of those things that made him adorable. 

The sheriff shrugged. “Yeah, I guess so,” she giggled at him. 

Buzz. Her... husband. 

Of course, there was no official paperwork or anything, but they were toys, so whatever the kids who played with them said, went. 

She figured Bonnie would eventually come to having the idea. And thankfully her new friend Blaze had gladly gone along with it. 

With the two girls occupied downstairs, taking a snack break and making plans for a sleepover with Bonnie’s parents, the two toys finally had a moment to themselves and to let it all sink in. 

Jessie smiled at him and reached out a hand to find his, intertwining their fingers together. 

Buzz looked down at their hands, back up and her, and smiled too. 

“Jessie, I -” 

“Okay, I know I’ve said it already like a bunch of times, but CONGRATS!” 

It was Trixie skipping up to them, followed by many of the other toys in the room who were also giving their congratulations.

Bullseye whinnied happily, rearing up.

“May you find happiness with each other for as long as you both shall live,” Mr. Pricklepants said grandly. 

“Psst, Buzz!” Forky whispered, and then very seriously he said, “if you need any advice, any advice at all about the married life, you can ask me. I’m an expert!” 

“You?” Mr. Potato head said, crossing his arms and looking down at the little utensil skeptically. If anybody should be the expert it was him – he'd been married over a decade and was still going strong. The spork had only been married for, like, two days! 

“And if you’re thinking about having kids, we can give you some tips!” Mrs. Potato Head pitched in, pulling in her three little green alien sons and Mr. Potato Head. 

Buzz and Jessie’s eyes widened at that. 

“Oh!” the cowgirl gasped, hand flying over her mouth as she blushed a bit. 

The space ranger on the other hand had gone stock still, staring off into the middle distance. 

“Er, maybe it’s too soon to hit them up with that,” Hamm mumbled, noting their reactions. 

“It’s still an idea!” Buttercup reasoned. 

“And Bonnie’s full of them,” Dolly added. 

“And so is Blaze!” Rex added.

“Darn tootin’!” Slinky agreed.

“Ooo, and speaking of Blaze,” Lilypad piped up, waddling over. “The others really wanna talk to you, sheriff!” 

Jessie knew that the ‘others’ the tablet was referring to were Smarty, Atlas, and Snappy, over at Blaze’s house – which was also Emily’s old house (a fact that she was still wrapping her head around). 

She peered at Lily’s screen, where a few messages from horsegrrll were:

So lovely... 

You gotta spill the details 😍 

Jessie chuckled. But then she looked over at Buzz, whom she caught gazing at her lovingly, eyes hooded. 

Upon the smirk she donned, Buzz realized what he was doing and he snapped to, blinking and averting his gaze bashfully. 

It only made the grin on the cowgirl’s face stretch even further. 

“Thanks,” she said to Lily, “but I’ll do it later. Right now, I think I wanna spend a lil time with my new husband...” 

She said the last part with a little purr, slinging an arm around the space ranger’s shoulders and pulling him flush to her. 

Buzz blushed, and the toys around them wolf-whistled and giggled at the two. 

“No problem,” Lily chirped, and to the toys she said, “Alright, guys, lets give these two lovebirds a little space!” 

Then she turned to the robot vaccum, with a hooded gaze of her own. “Wanna help me corral these guys outta here?” 

The robot made a little beeping sort of sound in reply and moved forward, the toys obediently going off. 

Lily sighed, hearts – literally – in her eyes as she watched the robot vacuum. “What a hunk...” 

And now that they were alone, Buzz peered up at Jessie. 

Jessie his wife. 

It was incredible that he even got to say such a thing. 

Because he remembered, all those years ago, when he was standing next to the pretty redhead of a cowgirl in Andy’s room, the first day she had joined the gang. He had only hoped that something would happen between them. 

He never imagined it would lead to this though. 

But the space ranger – as he recalled the three little aliens saying many a time to the Potato Heads – was eternally grateful for it. 

He cleared his throat. “Um, Jessie?” he began, taking her hand in his again. 

Jessie smiled at him. “Yeah?” 

Buzz scuffed a foot on the floor. “I know that, uh, we technically already had the wedding ceremony and all, but... um...” 

He scolded himself. Come on, Buzz... you can do this! He already failed to actually propose to her, even if Jessie had gotten the message. He could ask this... 

“I mean, with the girls having Trixie interrupt and dramatizing the whole thing, I mean we technically didn’t get a chance to... um...” 

Jessie had a feeling she knew what he was leading up to. She placed a hand on her hip, smirking. “What?” she prompted him. 

Just say it, Buzz’s conscious snapped at him. So he took a deep breath, and forced the words to come out. 

“To... kiss,” he mumbled. 

And maybe he said it a little too low, or maybe Jessie was being a tease, but she said “What was that, now?” 

So Buzz made himself say it again. Louder this time. 

“To kiss,” he said. And then he began to ramble. “You know, I-I mean, it’s, um, customary for a kiss to be shared after the pronunciation of being husband and wife, but ah... I mean it doesn’t have to happen, but I mean, it would be, um, nice and I - “ 

All of a sudden he found a finger being pushed against his lips, hushing him. It was Jessie’s, and when he looked up at her, she was grinning widely, eyes hooded. 

“Just kiss me, deputy.” 

At a loss for words, and utterly captivated, he gave a simple nod. 

And they faced each other, Buzz placing his hands on her waist, Jessie’s finding a place on his chest. 

They looked at each other adoringly for a moment. 

Then Buzz tilted his head up, Jessie dipping hers down. 

And they met in the middle. 

Just like before it was wonderful. Maybe even better, being that they weren’t in the middle of their mission and didn’t have any worries lingering at the back of either of their minds. It was just him and her, and their lips on each other’s. 

Jessie was in bliss, her sweet space toy everything to her. 

Buzz felt like he was floating. Like colors were swirling around him, like a crescendo of music was playing. She swept him off his feet. Or his foot at least. 

Unconsciously his leg popped up behind him, but he hardly paid mind to it. So long as he was able to keep kissing his wonderful cowgirl... 

They parted, breathless, emerald eyes gazing deeply into blue. 

Jessie lifted a hand up, caressing his face gently, Buzz leaning into the touch. 

Then she got a playful look about her. 

“Say,” she whispered. “Whaddyou say I get someone else ta watch the resta the toys tonight?” 

And the way she said it - voice all sultry and heavy with implication, finger teasingly twirling the red button on his chest – made him react the way he did. 

His wings popped out. 

Buzz’s eyes widened. “Uhh...” 

Jessie giggled, leaning in and giving him a quick peck.
