i really hate sensitivity advice in ttrpgs thats clearly being written for a table of cishet white abled men

like okay i understand you are trying to stop grognard gary from making female players miserable with constant sexual assault threats and that's a well intentioned goal but have you accidentally written a 'safety tool' or 'gender in [setting]' subheader that stifles and silences female players who want to reflect on or explore a societal force present in every aspect of their life through their character and play? does your rule or declaration intended to make sure women are comfortable also allow men who are uncomfortable thinking about misogyny to tell them, with all the best liberal intentions, not to bring the vibe down? because frankly there are countless such cases and i find it really frustrating (& ofc the same is true wrt race, disability, sexuality, etc)

i think it’s really amazing how total strangers who have nothing in common but their shared love of a work of fiction will come together across distances and dedicate their time and energy working collaboratively to build an extensive, richly detailed fanon that completely fucking sucks

imagine that your favourite band was on a generational run of albums, putting out 10/10 after 10/10, four singles a year you'd bet money on becoming classics of the genre. now imagine that between every record they also released a full length album where they covered jingles from cereal commercials and songs by white youtube rappers about five nights at freddy's, and these releases got a hundred times the promotion and airplay as their normal stuff: that's what it feels like to enjoy magic the gathering

cartoon bully girl shoves me against a wall and goes "awww~ it thinks it's people~" but then i pull her aside and calmly inform her that i'm pretty sure i'm something else wearing the skin of a person and the more i describe it the more horrified and disgusted she becomes until finally she asks what i think i am underneath and i say. i dunno. but its probly something cool, right? and then she calls be a dweeb and shoves me against a wall again and asks me for lunch money. which i respond to with violent sobbing

i remember a while ago i was doing comms in a very specific art style and it was seasonally quite popular and then one day i noticed someone in my notes had one for an icon that i absolutely didn’t draw, they had been inspired by mine and drawn their own looking at my gallery for reference, and you know what? i was so fucking tickled, like, literally just overjoyed because someone wanted their art to look like mine and wanted it badly enough that they did the damn thing and then they liked it enough that they made it their icon. how incredible?? i still think about it and smile even though it was probably the better part of 10 years ago. i can’t imagine giving a fuck about anything but the fact that my work as an artist made more artists make more art
