Whenever a character can be described as more then two words, as more then good or bad
They either get a tremendous amount of hate or a gross amount of coddling
It upsets me
A good example of this is Jax
He is a complex character who does bad things.
Jax is not a good guy.
This is overall what it sums up too.
But he also is not evil, he is not irredeemable
What I feel people confuse about characters who are antagonistic and have backstorys is they take that backstory as an excuse for said characters actions
Jax having a bad homelife is not an excuse for their actions. They have done terrible things
No one in the circus owes him forgiveness, especially Gangle
But just because you do something bad, does not make you bad.
The other side of the Jax debate is that Jax is nothing more then a piece of shit who derversed to die
This side of the argument is just an example of how unempathetic the internet can be
You very well can feel for a character while still holding them accountable
Im fine with people still not liking Jax, or saying they personally wouldn't forgive him
But saying that he deserves death and some people even mocking his trama and saying he derversed it, thats just disgusting behavior
That makes you just as bad as Jax
I am aware Jax has been confirmed to be a trans women, happy pride! Ive also heard that its ok to use both he or she, and im using he because thats what most people are familiar with.
This is a big excuse to rant about all my favorite characters who have injustice done to them
Another example of this, is Basil from Omori
People typically either think two ways about him that ive seen
Basil gets dumbed down to a victim a lot, or someone who could do no wrong.
Basil stabbed Sunny in the eye with garden shears.
Basil staged sucide to cover up manslaughter
Basil is a heavily traumatized character, with abandonment issues, and a guilty conscience.
Basil is no better then Sunny
Basil did do wrong
This brings me to the other side of what people tend to think about Basil
A villain
People tend to think this because of Basil attacking Sunny, because of Basil being clingy, because Basil staged Maris sucide
Are these terrible things that Basil did that no one owes him forgiveness for?
Yes
But if you say you hate Basil for this, you have to hate Sunny if you dont want to be a hypocrite
Sunny killed Mari, Sunny also staged Mari sucide even if not his idea, Sunny abandoned all of his friends, Sunny mistreated Basil
Sunny has hurt Basil, as Basil has hurt Sunny
Basil wanted to protect Sunny, and his protection was abcured by trama and fear
What Basil did was a terrible thing
Action is always more important then intention
But acknowledging intention is important for understanding and empathy
I feel as if the whole of Omori is often so misinterpreted
Some people take it as what Sunny did was completely forgivable
Some people take it as Sunny is a terrible person
Some people take it as their excuse for their own self depreciation
Omori is a game about overcoming depression and owning up to your mistakes and facing yourself.
What Sunny did was awful,(even if he didnt mean it) it was a misfortunate tragedy
And what made it worse is that he lied about it
Everyone has a right to be angry about that, everyone has a right to take their time to forgive Sunny, if they even want to at all.
Sunny was 12 when he pushed Mari down the stairs, he was a child, who was angry at his big sister
Sunny made a mistake, and that mistake hurt others, and theres nothing he can do about it
There's nothing he can do but to do better, to be better, to face his mistakes head on
Mari was pushing Sunny really hard for their recital yes
And ive heard people say that Mari and Sunny are equal
Which FUCK NO
Sunny took Mari's life in no way are they equal
Ive heard people say "Mari would never forgive Sunny"
Mari does not need to forgive Sunny, but its heavily implied she does
As the saying "My thoughts will follow you into dreams" appears near her grave
I feel like this implies that Mari thoughts and wants for Sunny, are carried into the dream world
We keep seeing ghost Mari tell Sunny to face his mistake, and that she wants him to forgive himself, which is probably what Mari would want
Ive also seen people in the Omori fandom dumb down every character to just "sucidal and silly"
Ive seen people say Sunny is just like them bz theyre depressed, which its a great thing to find a character to relate to, and who makes you feel seen
But when I bring up the fact that Sunny is a strong character, a character who overcomes his fears and agony, I get told
"No Sunny just wnats to khs"
Which is a terrible interpretation of the game and character
In Omori you see Sunny first learn how to calm down, then focus, then persist, then overcome
Which is a beautiful buildup in my opinion
But how do you see that, play Omori, or watch Omori, and think "huh this game is about how being depressed is ok"
Did you even play the game?!?!
I understand that people struggle that people are depressed that people struggle ive been there
But i dont have much tolerance for those who choose to wallow in their own self pity, those who refuse to try.
Because if you dont try, nothing will ever get better
You are a quitter and that is on you.
Its sad and I hope one day those people will learn how to try, and I wish them well, and I hope they find the path of betterment.
I also see people not understand Monika from DDLC
Ive seen her dumbed down to a "yandere" or just "evil"
Monika didnt want the MC, she wnated the player, you.
Monika realized that all her memories were fake, that all her friends weren't real and had no free will, that when the game ended she would die
And so she at first, altered her friends code to be less likable, so you would choose her, so she would get to talk to someone real, so she wouldn't die
Then she altered the code too much, that the characters starting killing themselfs
At the end, she just took care of Natsuki herself and told you about what happened
If you close the game in the "Just Monika" segment she'll tell you that whenever the game isnt open it hurts and its just nothingness
When you delete Monika she reveals she made back up for the other dokis and go on a speech
"I lied. I didnt delete them, I just couldnt bring myself to. I loved my friends
I loved the literature club. I really did love the literature club. "
She'll bring everyone back, and Sayori will have the same reaction Monika did to being in a game (yet I dont see people call her evil)
And Monika will stop Sayori and thank him for making her friends happy
Monika is by no means a evil character
One of my favorite characters ever is Chara from Undertale
They often get called the "demon child"
This one is wrong by almost all means
Id say Chara is the most innocent character out of Jax, Sunny, Basil, and Monika
Chara was abused by humans on the surface, and jumped Mt. Ebott to kill themselves
They failed and were taken in by the Dreamur family
They were known as the hope of the underground
Chara and Asirel loved each other dearly (SIBLING WISE ISTG)
One day, Chara and Asirel baked Asgore a pie but mistook cups of butter, for buttercup flowers which are poisonous
Asirel remarks that Chara laughed it off
A lot of people say that this means Chara enjoyed the pain
But laughing is seen as a way to express sorrow in the underground
Toriel laughs when you kill her
Snowdrake dead mother laughs even tho shes in chronic pain
The phrase "you laugh but nothings funny" appears numerous times
This does not prove Chara enjoyed Asgores pain
Chara gets an idea from this
Chara wants monsters to not be trapped underground
Chara hates humanity, as they were abused by humans, and as humans are the reason those they love are trapped underground
So they poison themselves with buttercups, they kill themselves, sacrifice themselves for their family
The plan fails, as Asirel was to much of a pacifist to fight back
Chara is the narrator of the whole game, and without them you couldnt save Asirel
They are the ones who tell you
"There's one more person to save"
There is no cannon age for Chara, but based on the sprite and the way they behave I think 7-12 is the range, I personally believe 9
But they are a child (that means stop shipping them)
Chara in genocide aids your path
They do not do it for you, you choose to kill everyone they ever loved
As they say
"I woke up, I was confused at first, our plan had failed, why was i back? But then you, you showed me the way"
They are a small child, very impressionable
When they realize you killed everyone literally just for the sake of killing everyone and not for a greater purpose they say
"You think your above consequences
Your mind is perverted, you make me sick"
They make you sell them your soul if you wish to continue the game, and will make sure you cant get a happy ending as you dont derverse one
Chara is not an antagonist, they aid you in your gameplay, unless you do genocide.

(Grammer and tone of this might be terrible give me grace)
Im rewatching Omori currently
Basil also enjoys flowers and floriography! (Not exclusively the Victorian meanings however)
To represent Sunny (or Omori) we have white tulips
Tulips in general represent unconditional love, and rebirth which goes along very well with the story and message the game puts out
White Tulips represent forgiveness, and peace
Great foreshadowing Omori!
The flower representing Mari is Lily of the Valley Lily of the Valley represents gentle love, return of happiness, purity, and in biblical sense, virgin Mary's tears
Lily of the valley can also mean remembrance and mourning
Cacti represent Kel, although not really a flower itself
They represent endurance, warmth, protection, and also unconditional love
Roses represent Hero, although roses can mean different things
Basil says he feels Hero is like all roses and is "universally loved" which is true, but roses can also mean "I still love you"
Aubrey is represented by a gladiolus flower, which mean strength of character, rememberence, and are also known as "little sword" flowers
Basil is represented by sunflowers, and he says himself he wants to "see the positive side of things"
Another implication and foreshadowing here is that Basil needs Sunny, and faces towards Sunny
