«To C. General Porfirio Diaz, current President of the Mexican Republic», Mexican Liberal Party flyer, 1899.
Possessed of indefinable pleasure, we send cordial congratulations to the Meritorious and honored General Porfirio Diaz, for his onomastic day; sincerely, we wish you many, many years of life on earth, and all kinds of happiness, satisfaction, and well-being. The gratitude we feel for his untold benefits and effective administration of the Government of the Republic, we can do less than making manifest in these lines devoid of eloquence; but full of sincerity. The Mexicans we must confess that true civilization is today when it begins to be palpable because it stems from our intelligent and profound political First Magistrate of the Nation. Who will dare to deny it? Only the wayward or lacking in common sense. And it is not that it is flattery ours; the most enlightened nations proclaim at every step their reflection, prudence, and natural dispositions to govern a republic like Mexico. What other president has sustained peace for so long and so long? None certainly. And naturally, peace is one of the main elements that countries must have to have progress, culture, and therefore: true civilization. Our Republic is happy; in all, we palpate the benefic, the legitimate democracy; Mexico is truly free and independent and continues to be so as long as our egregious and First Magistrate General Porfirio Diaz exists. Compatriots: we should never stop recognizing the supreme qualities that our noble ruler carries within himself. Yes, Mexicans, let us raise from the bottom of our souls an ardent and profound vote of thanks to the unequaled Conciliator of Peace, wishing him a happy and happy birthday. Glory and praise to the most worthy President of the Mexican Republic! Long live the Great Leader of the Nation, General Porfirio Diaz. —Mexico, September 13th, 1899.
