A huge bit for Harry was his relationship with Dora, and there are tiny loose ends that need tying in Kim's story, i think they can be put in eachother's place perfectly in swap AU.

Kim mentions his former partner "Eyes" with a lot of weight to his words

KIM KITSURAGI - "I had a partner once. They called him Eyes, because he had to show me things. It's that bad."

EMPATHY - This partner of his, Eyes -- things didn't end well. It saddens him to say his name. Don't even ask. He wouldn't answer. Maybe some other small talk?

And it's implied later that he took a bullet for him too

KIM KITSURAGI - "Then I shot and wounded him while Glen took a bullet in the spine." He nods. "It was meant for me. Glen did not survive." There's a pause.

EMPATHY - This is not the first person to die in his place. He goes on.

SO MY THOUGHT PROCESS WAS.

In the same way Harry doesn't remember the "ex-something", Kim would have barely any memory of his old partner (boyfriend, ahem). So i can only imagine he'd ask his precinct if he had any family or any work partners and they'd tiptoe around the fact that Eyes was like, dead.

He'd catch small hints, like his partner's real name on old case files and on his notebook, or have a whole thought project about "Eyesight" just to be reminded of someone. He'd just end up believing he was dumped and became so bitter he went downhill from there.

Kim would try calling an old number he remembered, only for the line's new owner to pick up and say that they had that line for over 5 years at that point -- he'd push and all the other person would be able to say would be something along the lines of "Listen, I heard the guy is dead, now can you leave me the fuck alone?!"

The video-revachol dream thing could be something related to when he was shot -- Kim would leave the sea fortress, looking for Harry, being called by his mind into the sea, stepping in, sinking down and ending up laying on the cold rough floor of the streets of Revachol, as he gets up, he finds Eyes at the end of the alleyway breathing heavily, like they were both running just a moment ago.

So Kim can ask all his questions to his partner's face once again, he asks about his job, about their partnership, about their relationship, why he feels so guilty all the time, why Eyes left him, he asks if it'll ever get better. And get's the red check to try to kiss him. If he succeeds, he manages to kiss Eyes, and he vaguely kisses back, but his lips are cold. If he fails, he ends up just hugging him, pathetically so. But it doesn't matter if he fails or succeeds, Kim always ends up pulling Eyes closer or maybe pushing him further, just enough to take a bullet meant for Kim, straight to the head.

Kim wakes up in a cold sweat, Harry says he was shaking a lot, asking if maybe he should've shaken the lieutenant awake, Kim is still thrown off his axis.

AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE.

Kim is terrified of having another partner, even if it was just a work partner, afraid he'd end up getting them killed as well. Imagine when Harrier "Sunshine" DuBois walks into his life one day and challenges every single one of the walls he put up.

Imagine him at the tribunal, Kim taking the shot at Ruud, shaking, because he knew he was aiming for Harry, falling to the ground shortly after from de Paule's shot, only to open his eyes to Harry keeping him up, with Kortenaer pointing a gun to his head.

IMAGINE THE PANIC IN WHICH HE TELLS HARRY TO WATCH OUT, only to pass out and feel useless again, thinking he let another partner die for him.
