he lessens the pangs of a headache   with beer ,   the bottle held against the corner of his forehead   like an ice pack ,   and remaining there for what has seemed like a lightyear .   crisp , cool precipitation   leaves its droplets behind ,  free falling to lashes ,   among eyes that more so blink and flicker   against its own natural will   than it does at the sprinkle of water .   they stare below ,   vacantly ,   where skin grows raw ,   red   against the numbing chill   â   but it doesnât numb .   relief barely lets up   â   perhaps this wasnât the best place to go in order to heal ,   where rampant smells ,   roaring music ,   running mouths tend to be ,   one is more likely to create a headache than treat one .   yet , somehow ,   remorse doesnât yet wash over his shoulders .   mind still promotes   peace and quiet   as this part of the sphere ,   functioning like a jungle  or a gymnasium ,   enwraps him ,   and he sits there ,   letting it hold him .
but of course ,   a pulse of a throbbing nuisance   doesnât derive without a root of a spawn .   and among a one - ended conversation ,   food for thought ,   but without the receiving thought ,   he thinks ,   people do still need to shut the fuck up .   thus ,   he detaches beer bottle and turns ,   looking like he just got punched âŚÂ   ( or is going to ) .   â listen â â   keeping voice against steel ,   words confided lowly   only between them .    â one more time :   itâs your personal business   â-   i donât wanna know about it . â
Heâd seen people in bad states before ; hell, heâd been in a bad state before, more times than once. He knew the feeling of a throbbing migraine, of a craving for something he couldnât get, knew the struggle of chasing something that was just out of reach. Thatâs why it was so obvious to see that this guy was suffering. Whatever caused it, Cas didnât know, but he knew that look anywhere. And he knew the look of a rapidly cooling beer, too. Thatâs why he offered a new one - or a towel full of ice, whichever was preferred. It didnât seem like he was heard, though, so he spoke up, offering again, a sweet release, even if only temporary.Â
Startled by the response, Cas leaned forward against the bar, looking into the guyâs eyes. âOne more time--â repeated his words back to him, voice low and slow, trying to make it as easy to listen to as possible. âIâm just trying to help. Do you want a replacement for that? A new beer, a towel of ice...? I think we might have some ibuprofen in the back, if youâre looking for a painkiller...â There were likely people within Violet who had stronger sorts of painkillers, but the ibuprofen was the only one Caspian was legally authorized to offer. âBecause youâre kindaâ messing with the atmosphere, sitting there like somebody just decked you.â
