it really is quite bad for your military to have an image of itself as a warrior class. what you really want is for your soldiers to think of themselves as boring professionals who will fill out a report form if someone gets a little too warrior ethos out there
There is a very definite pattern at play throughout all of history...
It goes back way further, but I'm not putting that much work into this so Imma start with Sparta. The warrior culture that said shit like "Sparta needs no walls" and "Spartans, what is your profession?!" fought Thebes three times, and three times they got absolutely humiliated by a bunch of guys who would rather just be gay poets together.
Everyone remembers them responding to a threat with "If." No one remembers they immediately got their asses kicked. Everyone remembers Thermopylae, no one remembers they got steamrolled after that, and it was actually a bunch of Athenian philosophers who sent the mighty Persian empire with "so many archers we were fighting in the shade" home with their tail between their legs.
Then Rome thought they were gonna eat everybody's lunch, and a bunch of Celtic farmers kicked their shit in so hard twice that the entire empire literally collapsed because they didn't have enough soldiers left to defend it.
Then the Spanish Conquistadors conquisted exactly nothing because they thought they were great warriors, and 100% of their successes were actually because they were disgusting and disease ridden and so used to making each other sick that they died less from smallpox than the people they were invading who bathed regularly and were (in the case of the Mexica) mostly at that point in history just a bunch of bureaucrats who still repeatedly beat their asses despite having weapons made of wood and stone.
Then the Nazi "master race" as previously established got absolutely owned by British bureaucracy, American teenagers who lied about their age to skip high school classes and shoot Nazis, French exotic dancers and secretaries, and a group of Dutch school girls.
Now the Russian war machine is donating their tanks to Ukrainian farmers and getting curb stomped by knitting circles because (Yakov Smirnoff voice) In soviet Russia, occupied country conquers you.
And the largest and most well funded military force in all of human history recently signed what amounted to a surrender agreement with a country that hasn't been a world power pretty much since they got their asses kicked by Athenian philosophers.
Take a lesson from all of Greek mythology as well as world history. Nothing will fuck your shit faster than your own hubris. Thinking you're hot shit militarily is the fastest route to getting the shit kicked out of you.
I may not have the time nor energy for a long post today but that doesn't stop my brain from coming up with so many words, banging on the inside of my skull begging to be let out. I have a doctors appointment in 3 and a half hours and I haven't slept all night, and today, a neurosurgeon I saw for the first time took me condition seriously in a way that I wasn't used to, but I left with more confusion. The couple of diagnoses I have long thought to be the cause of my severe progressive paralysis were proposed--- not to be fake like many doctors have suggested ---but to not make enough sense, not be nearly severe enough to explain my symptoms.
today I went to a doctors appointment and they proposed that paraneoplastic syndrome should be investigated as a part of my differential diagnosis, a diagnosis I've only heard of from watching House MD. They said it could be that or an autoimmune condition attacking my central nervous system or something else, but luckily today they finally affirmed something I have long known: my reflexes are abnormal and there is no way this could be attributed to some bullshit functional overlay. Something is wrong, so wrong as to be out of the scope of a neurosurgeon at one of the best hospitals in the country. Something is wrong and even though I never stopped looking for an answer, even when I felt like I should be thinking horses not zebras (despite having (currently) and having had (in my childhood) multiple very rare conditions), I had settled slightly into thinking a condition that didn't quite fit my symptoms explained them all, not something exceedingly common but an Occam's razor kind of situation: "Plurality should not be posited without necessity" so maybe if I have relatively minor symptoms from this one thing, perchance, possibly it could explain the symptoms so severe that I fear I will die an early death. But that's not Occam's razor is. It isn't the attribute one thing to everything postulate, it's the idea that plurality should not be posited without necessity, not that plurality should never be posited whatsoever. So sometimes you need to trust yourself even when you think that you have exhausted every option to figure out what is wrong and what is right--- what is true and what isn't. Don't get me wrong, I still have plenty of debilitating symptoms from common conditions but sometimes you know the journey isn't over and maybe it's my obsessive or self-conscious or frantic nature but over the years, I've lost a lot of my fight (for a plethora of bad reasons) but you must question why there are so many people who aim to instill complacency because those people have something to gain. Often the power those people seek to gain is antithetical to an empowered populous, an empowered patient, someone with even the smallest bit of fight left in them. So keep being strong and annoying and a bitch because I can almost guarantee youre not as mean as you think you are. Keep being. I'll never forget a comment I got on a poem I wrote talking about how I just felt like everything about me was decaying with all sorts of related metaphors. The person said some kind things about my writing as a whole and then ended their comment with "you are so much more than rot on wood." It still gives me goosebumps to write it because the little acts of kindness and power we instill in one another each day mean something. There's a whole big world out there, and that simultaneously means that you can still avoid ever seeing your enemy again after they move to the same big city as you, but it also means that those times we don't want to disappear into the crowd, but struggle to stay steadfast, someone will find you. They say no one is coming to save you and that's true, but it also means that we must save each other, no superhero, no deus ex machina, just some people doing the best they can.
i see a lotta people (myself included) worry about their story not being original, or overdone and like... that's literally what all stories are. every story when boiled down is a replication of what's already there because that's where inspiration comes from. from something you saw in existence. but that's okay!
because people will still read the same enemies to lovers or hero beats villain tropes over and over again. when you throw your story in the pot and set it to a boil and throw in the ingredients you want, it's a different taste. your words aren't exactly the same as those who've written that defiant princess trope because you aren't the same. while yes, the same ingredients and experiences exist out there, they were still thrown in at different times or strengths. nobody else is you, despite how similar they may seem.
every writer, especially beginning writers, have a voice. over time you'll curate and grow that voice with specific words you lean on more or tropes you write about more, but that's what makes it so special.
you'll sigh and chide yourself for writing the same thing again, while someone else will light up with delight when they recognize it's you who's writing it and this is exactly what they've been wanting to read to end their day.
what matters at the end of the day is that you wrote it. and hopefully you enjoyed writing it as much as someone else will with reading it
some people will be like “I wonder why fanfic writers don’t share their works anymore😔” and then this is them when a writer is kind enough to share something they write — as a hobby, for their own enjoyment — with them for free.
some people really don’t realize how privileged they are that they get fanfics for free. imagine having access to something for free because someone is kind enough to share it with you… and then being rude, entitled and an ungrateful pos to that person who was kind enough to share their creation with you for free
“almost 1 year is a lil too much for me” fuck off. fanfic writers don’t owe you anything. one of my favorite fics was updated after 13 years, and what I did is that I thanked the author for choosing to continue the work, I didn’t act like a spoiled toddler by asking why they didn’t update sooner. and even if a writer chooses to abandon their fic permanently with no explanation, that is their choice, their hobby, their decision. they don’t owe your entitled ass anything.
you people let tiktok rot your brains to the point you see everything as content farm and engagement. not a piece of art created by the artist’s love and passion. it’s dystopian.

Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
Also, if you’re even a little concerned about getting a hump or having trouble standing fully upright in your old age, this is how you prevent that. If you want to be up and about when you’re old you have to start when you’re younger. And keep in mind there is no bad time to start and it’s never too late. Starting today is way better than never starting at all.
we need to be more bored. i used to be so creative in my spare time, now I'm just on my phone.
Abolish ICE.

“But wait, if you could break out of my evil trap, why not break out immediately?!” “Honestly, I like hearing you talk. Not in a romantic way but, have you ever thought of starting a podcast?”
Hey do y’all remember when Boeing fucking killed a guy last year. And we all said “huh I guess Boeing fucking killed a guy” and then went on with our lives. And everybody knew that Boeing had fully just fucking executed a guy and nothing came of it. Like there was no police investigation no justice no nothing. Like literally EVERYBODY knew that Boeing had full on murdered a guy to silence him and there wasn’t any consequences for them. Kinda crazy.
and there was even less talk when openai did the exact same thing more recently
So for those who are, very understandably uninitiated on this story:
On 23 October last year (2024) the New York Times published an interview with former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji who worked on organising and gathering data for OpenAI until 2022 when he begun thinking about the morality of it. He eventually came to the conclusion that what OpenAI is doing blatantly violates copyright law and decided to leave the company altogether in August 2024.
After he came out with this accusation he was set to appear in court to testify against OpenAI’s data-gathering practices, something which had the potential of being a complete disaster for the company and the generative AI industry as a whole.
That was until 26 November, just days before he was due to appear in court, when he suddenly and mysteriously was found dead inside his own apartment. Investigators concluded that the death was self-inflicted, something which his family has disputed.
There was also “sign of struggle in the bathroom and looks like someone hit him in the bathroom based on blood spots”, and his apartment showed signs of having been ransacked for evidence: “The pin drive is missing. His computer was messed up.”.
Overall it feels pretty clear-cut what happened, that is to say that OpenAI had him killed because he was a legitimate threat to their business, indicating that they are fully aware that the way they’re gathering data is completely illegal.

idiot at wizard school just said "i have devised the perfect mana nullification field rendering me impervious to all forms of magic!" i figure he should've taken a few more interdisciplinary courses because i tweaked the timing on a gravitation spell to throw a giant boulder at him. the moment I released the spell it stopped being a sorcery equation and started being a physics one

how are westerners so thoroughly programmed that even when you see the violence of your empire, you parrot the same lies used to sell that violence. "bombing a school is wrong but the iranian people should be freed from the regime—" "abducting a president is wrong but the venezuelan people should be freed from the regime—" "starving people with sanctions is wrong but the cuban people should be freed from the regime —" the western people need to be freed from the regimes that brainwashed you, and I mean that
Quick thought on the sudden rise in therian talk in news
So today I’ve seen posts on multiple platforms from those living in Latin America saying the news and social media is suddenly discussing therians a lot, in a very negative way.
Something I need y’all to know, based on my experience living as trans for 10 years and being a furry for several as well: DO NOT TALK TO THE MEDIA. You can speak to TRUSTED, preferably independent journalists. Previously center and liberal news media like CNN and the New York Times have taken a steep rightwing shift. Do not go on podcasts, do not talk to tv reporters, etc. It will put you in harms way. You will be taken out of context. They will attack you with premeditated questions to make you look bad, knowing you are not prepared to debate/justify your existence. I repeat,
DO NOT TALK TO THE MEDIA.
Can confirm. Please listen.
I am a disabled transgender woman of color, otherkin, pagan clergy member, and civil rights organizer. I have been active in these communities (often in some kind of organizing capacity) since 2005-2010.
I have done numerous TV, radio/podcast, and newspaper interviews. All of them went well because I communicated with more experienced organizers with experience interacting with the media, and because I carefully vetted everyone I spoke to.
A legitimate journalist with good intentions will do research, find community leaders and organizers, and reach out to them directly to request an interview. Which is what happened for every interview I have ever done.
If someone puts out a general call for volunteers, it is almost always because they have bad intentions and they want someone who does not have expertise or experience with the media, whom they can easily make a fool of. No matter who you are or how charismatic or good at speaking you are, it is absolutely impossible to do an interview which cannot be edited to make you look like an idiot. The only way to look good in an interview is if the interviewer wants you to look good. No exceptions.
I have seen it happen numerous times both in the alterhuman community and elsewhere. Not only do people who agree to such interviews always get made a fool of by the media. They also usually get labeled by the community as clout chasing embarrassments who don't have the community's best interests in mind. I won't name names, but those who've been around for a while will be able to think of examples.
The only time it's not a completely terrible idea to agree to an interview is if:
A) The interviewer contacted you specifically because you are a leader/organizer/academic who represents the community.
B) You've done research on the interviewer to find out who they are and what kind of work they've done in the past.
C) This interviewer is a serious journalist who has never done sensationalist media or published an interview with someone who looked silly or incompetent (because if they interviewed someone who looked bad, it is always on purpose. They can make anyone look bad and they can make anyone look good).
D) The interviewer does not work for a media outlet that ever does sensationalist media, or which has any connections to conservative interests (which eliminates all mainstream media outlets).
E) You have spoken to other community leadership who also think you should do the interview.
