She feels incredibly constrained by the roles she's been assigned, her obligation to play the part of "Noelle" and her perceived inability to change her identity. She's performing her role well, but she doesn't feel like her actions are her own, almost as if "Noelle" is a separate identity from her one.

Thinking back to the very beginning of the game, a voice that might belong to Carol Holiday says this: "[Your vessel] will now be discarded. No one can choose who they are in this world. Your name is-" If this is Carol, she is making a very generalized statement, it isn't just the player who can't choose who they are, no one can. She ridicules the idea of choosing a body for oneself, revoking the appearance and name chosen by the player. Carol, being the mother of her two daughters, is also likely to have been the one to have named Noelle, after a Christmas carol.

In the Weird Route Noelle focuses very particularly on names, her own and Kris'. Their names are the people they are supposed to be, and the person speaking through Kris is not Kris. As Noelle feels herself changing over the course of the route, she feels herself coming free from her suffocating identity, beginning to shed the name that she is trapped inside.
