Day Dream Believer

“He comment on it?” Archie inquired with a raised eyebrow, listening to his words. Fair enough, but he still thought they could help each other while they were here together. “That is lame. You got any better ideas?” He looked around, but apart from the cabins and the lake there didn’t seem to be anything else.

“Nooot really?” Carter kinda shrugs. “More so that look, you know? He was trying to be nice- I know that.” He nods, looking around again. “Honestly man this place is torn up as fuck. We might have to climb a tree or something.”

“No! I mean, kinda? It helped? But….honestly a lot of lube is what helped the most-” Miles stops himself. “Ok but that’s not the point!” The taller male rubs the back of his head, stepping back in front of Carter and eyeing him up and down. “I’m chill. I just don’t want anyone finding us here. The less I stand out the better.”

“No- us consenting to fuck each other multiple times puts your dick in my ass.” Carter starts up sarcastically before Miles had started again. He was almost hurt. No- he was. “So the walk up here where anyone could’ve seen us- that was fine. Sitting with me on the bus here- that was fine too. Even messing around at the rest stop- that was fine. But because we’re stuck here..” He nods. “Gotcha..”

The fire crackled in front of them and that’s all Carter heard until a small snore came from his side. His head jerked to see the other boy in a little ball on the ground next to him. “Aw.” He cooed out before grabbing the gram crackers and breaking them into their squares. “But you fell asleep, that’s your fault.” Just after the words left his lips, CJ started stacking the crackers on the other to see how high it would get before he woke up.

Archie sniggered. “You’re kidding. Not even been here ten minutes and you fucked up. Stick with me, my man, you might learn a thing or two.” He sighed and kicked at stray stones, his heavy boots thudding against the ground as they walked. “Yeah, doubt that’s gonna happen. Doesn’t seem to be anywhere to hide - unless you count the woods.”

“It was’t even lit, but I know he saw it.” Carter sighed, rolling his eyes. “I’ve been doing this for too long and surviving off of it, I’m not sure how much you’ll teach me but it’s worth a friendship I guess.” He shrugs. “We could sneak into the woods but doing that to hide seems ...lame.”

     the smell – it’s unmistakable. teddy, however, would hate to write someone up on the first day. as the other scrambled to save his ass, an amused tilt of his lips fights its way to the surface. ❝ yeah – i know. ❞ there’s something behind teddy’s tone, teasing in the direction of the roach in carter’s pocket. ❝ teddy. i’m one of the counselor’s here. ❞

Carter gives a look, it’s not mad, he’s smiling, but he’s hiding betrayal. He didn’t even get to light it yet and was stopped by a counselor. “Great.” The boy smiles. “Nice to meet you, Teddy, do you already know my name?”

Archie raised his eyebrows and smirked. “Don’t go anywhere without it. You never know when shit’s gonna get shit. Just don’t let the counselors see ya, they’ll go ape.” He followed Carter, not all that interested in where they were going as long as it was away from the other campers. “Have you seen this place? These people will sort you out, trust me.”

“Oh I’m trying not to but I already fucked that up, and it wasn’t even lit yet.” Carter shakes his head. “No, I haven’t really snooped much. I’ve been looking for hiding places because I don’t want these counselors to see me. I’d rather fade away to just treat this place like paradise.”

“No, I like the city better, it’s where home is. This is better for watching birds and finding fungus, though,” Ashley replied, answering the boy’s question and stating his opinion all in one go. He really did enjoy the fresh air, now that he thought about it. The smell of gasoline and smokes had been the backdrop to his life until then and while he didn’t mind, but he was enjoying the light breeze against his cheeks. “Also, Kevin made me come because I don’t have friends my age. I dunno why that’s a problem.” He shrugged, messing with the top button on his paisley shirt. 

“Kevin?” He asks almost unfazed from the thing said before. “Who’s Kevin?” Carter backtracks almost immediately, being his ADD self, asking about the things before again. “The city is only good for immediate life. It’s nice to relax and not worry.”

“I am a responsible adult!” Miles said in a much louder tone in case there was anyone listening to them. The bigger male looked like a squirrel trying to hide behind that tree, circling to the other side of it in an effort to avoid Carter when he got closer. “And hey hey that was once and I’m pretty sure you were high as fuck.”

“Surreee.” Carter says before rolling his eyes again. “Once? And me being high puts your dick in my ass?” He asks quieter again. “My man, you’ve gotta chill.” Sure it was risky, but acting weirder when speaking softer gave things away more- or so Carter thought anyways.

So that’s what it means.

Miles turned noticeably red, looking around to make sure there was no one nearby and stepping back to partially hide behind the tree. “I don’t believe that, cut it out man someone’s gonna hear you or something…” The taller boy wondered how in the hell he got involved with a character who’d pin a nickname on him based on his dick. But then again, from the get-go he knew Carter was something else.

Carter couldn’t help but see him blush and moved closer to the boy once he moved slightly behind the tree. In a smaller voice he started up again. “Oh please, we walked here with my hand in your back pocket. We missed the first bus because we fucked. If no one is around I’m talking about it, and around select other people who.. get us.”

Miles finished his beer, tossing the can aside and leaning up against a tree in front of Carter. “Well that’s all we could buy at that candy-ass gas station. You know I’m not a drinker. Speaking of which…holy crap gas here is way more expensive than Detroit. Forty cents a gallon.” He shifted uncomfortably. “Why do you keep calling me that? Isn’t that like…a lady’s bra size?”

“But you bought beer and drank it because..?” He asks while walking towards the man that leaned against the tree. “I wasn’t driving so I didn’t care, but that’s what happens in big cities, baby.” Carter gives a shrug, of course Miles would notice the gas prices. Slightly less than a cackle left the older boys lips at Miles’ question. “I keep calling you that because you have donkey-dick, my man. Like I can see your outline right now.”

“Archie,” he answered shortly. Any nickname was annoying, but he could tolerate Arch or A.D. People called him that. He just didn’t make it pubic to Carter. “Well hey, as a friend,” he paused and jutted his chin towards the bag. “there’s some stuff in here that may come in handy later, alright?” At least this guy seemed to feel the same way as him. There was no way this was going to be a fun holiday. Perhaps less stressful than home, but not fun.

“Nice to meet you, Archie Comics.” Carter grinned playfully and looked to the others bag. “So you brought the fun with you as well, huh?” It was nice to know that he wasn’t alone in his excursion. “I just hope I don’t fully run out before this is all done and over with. I’ll be annoying myself by the end if I do.”

The innuendos and jokes always flew right over Miles’ head. Maybe he was too thick skulled or maybe just too innocent by nature. He walked close to Carter, ushering their path until they arrived at camp.

“…..please don’t tell me you brought any of that stuff here with you.” He said, popping open a beer from his bag.

“My meds, you mean?” He asks with a grin up to the other. “Yes, yes I did, if I don’t smoke you’ll have an annoying ADD bouncing around you and you’ll be annoyed and pin me down ..in the not good way.” A held back snorted laugh escaped him at his own awful jokes. “But look- you can drink but I can’t smoke? That’s a double standard from Double-D.”

Archie chose to ignore that first statement, because he couldn’t relate. And he wasn’t too optimistic about his future so he didn’t think he could reach an age where he would relate. He took the other’s hand and shook it briefly. “Archie. Hell yeah, beats getting stuck walking around in a fuckin’ group.” He sneered and threw his bag over his shoulder, waiting on the other. He hadn’t planned on making friends exactly, but if that’s what happened, that was fine with him too.

“Fuck yeah man, I like your style. What’s your name?” He asks while starting up the small hill towards the buildings. “I’m Carter Jameson, some people call me Whiskey, but you can call me CJ if you want. God knows I might end up needing some real whiskey here.”

Ashley stumbled off the bus as quickly as his legs could carry him, an almost comical look of disgust and horror plastered across his face. Public transport was one of the many, many things he didn’t handle well with the cramped seating arrangements and the absolutely filthy interior. If he was being completely honest, he would be partial to jumping into an incinerator right then, that’s how dirty he felt. The kid next to him was rambling about stashes and ADD, some of which he didn’t completely understand and didn’t particularly care to.

“It’s nice to look at, not to be in,” Ashes replied to the boys final sentence, one that he’d heard completely. It was true, the campgrounds were rather beautiful, but he wasn’t too keen on the fly that had landed momentarily on his nose.

Carter just scoffed, rolling his eyes slightly at the other. “It’s nice in both. This is way better than the city. Detroit never stops and it smells like cars because.. We’re the motor city.” He gives a chuckle, curious as to how he didn’t notice the boy on the bus. “If you don’t like it why’d you come out here?”

Miles looked down at Carter, standing beside him, and shrugged. He spoke, holding his bag and keeping Carter close as they moved through the woods. Every once in a while he’d reach out to pull his companion a bit closer or hold him to make sure they didn’t get separated. “Well you know what they say about Karma, brother.” Miles always seemed to speak in a somewhat upbeat tone, even now as they hiked through the forest.

“Different kind of…what do you mean?” The big guy didn’t seem to be following Carter’s insinuation.

“So that means you have to sound like a sailor?” He asks with a raise of his brow, his hand slipping into Miles’ back pocket as they walked. “I don’t think you’ll be getting much from Karma for that one, you’ll probably get more from me.” Carter jokes again, waggling his brows at the other as the continued on. “Miles, how long have you know me? Known that I smoke that glorious tree?”

    it had been a long day – setting up the camp and instructing the campers on safety precaution and blahblahblah. once the campers were in their assigned cabins and getting ready for lights out, teddy decided that he needed to release some stress. he wasn’t one for drinking or smoking, though, so his next best bet was to go on a run, like before he went to camp. he was getting a good rhythm going when he noticed a camper.  ❝ excuse me, ❞ he breathed out,  ❝ isn’t it passed lights out ??? ❞

Carter nearly dropped his joint when he heard the voice speak at him. “Hm?” He asked while hiding the thing in his hand just to shove it in his pocket. “Is it? I don’t own a watch, literally, I was just getting some fresh air. It’s cramped in there, ya know?” His eyes looking the boy up and down for a moment as he spoke. “..who are you?”
