Hello! I am a 18 year old Ukrainian-American writer who is coming back to running this blog. My pen name keeps changing but currently I'm going by the pen name "Vasyl Veles" on here, Vas for short.

I tend to write in the horror, sci-fi, and dark fantasy genres. I am a big fan of using dark aspects of fiction to explore intellectual themes, and enjoy writing a lot about nature, science, and queer experiences. I also loveee speculative biology. I write both short stories and novels, and am not yet published (but currently submitting stories to some writing competitions, wish me luck!).
Other than writing, I am also a big fan of goth, industrial, and metal music, and am passionate about science and mathematics. I also greatly enjoy DIY and art, and hope to post some of those projects on here in addition to writing.

My two favorite stories:
The Diorama: A man is haunted by his deceased mother's plan for him to continue her career as an architect. An allegory for how parents push their own dreams onto their children, but through body horror.
The House of Famish: A woman moves into her ancestral home with her wife, and soon discovers her wife doesn't have what it takes to care for the house. An allegory for how toxic family traditions can become ingrained in people.

Just as a reminder you can write entire pieces of JUST exploratory and speculation for your own WIP or story and they don't have to go anywhere. You are not beholden to a character arc or a rising and falling action with a conclusion. Sometimes you just wanna write a side scene with some characters doing some things. Or you need to just need to write what would amount to an academic paper about a certain landscape in your story. Like that's also fine.
Also these things don't need endings. When you finish them they're done. Even if it's in the 'middle' of something. You got out the part you wanted and now you're done and you satisfied the plot bunny demanding blood sacrifice of you writing that specific scene right now. Congrats you're done now.
Don't let the editor in your mind steal your joy of writing your silly little story. The mind editor is the thief of joy.

In this case “chat” is as in Twitch Chat, like when streamers talk to their twitch chats directly, like “hey, chat, what’s happening?” Not sure what they mean by 4th person pronoun - I would consider “chat” a 2nd person plural (you all) but I can see the potential for defining it as a completely separate thing due to the nature of “chat” being a undefined person instead of a specific one? Idk it’s fascinating tho
4th person is referring to the hypothetical collective of people beyond the fourth wall. the fourth wall is the invisible barrier between the stage and the seats, the actor and the audience. and actors 'break' the fourth wall when they address the audience directly and acknowledge that they're a person playing a character for entertainment. in some styles of performance this should never be done, like opera or musicals, because it can collapse the weight and momentum of the story. in others, like improv and game shows, audience participation is encouraged because it's explicitly a collaboration.
in the streaming era (in our panopticon culture) the fourth wall is extremely permeable in interesting new ways. streamers aren't just playing to an audience, they're able to read and respond to messages from that audience too. it's a collaborative improv, there's a call and response, the audience knows the streamer relies on them for attention as they rely on him for entertainment.
so, yeah, 'chat' isn't second person, it's fourth. i'm not referring to the 'you' that's here with me on this side of the stage, im referring to the people beyond this situation, watching our funny little problems. all the world is a stage, now. don't forget to like and subscribe.
oh so when the reader knows something i don’t it’s “dramatic irony” but when i know something the reader doesn’t suddenly i’m an “unreliable narrator” 🙄
If I can tell you on singe sentence of writing advice that you'll take to heart its this: Don't assume your audience is dumb and don't assume your audience doesn't like you.
hey artists just in case you feel despair at the rise of ai art please remember that the talking points of pro-ai people are as genuinely “ai art bad? but what if there was a PUCK girl who had Steampunk Tube Arm Prosthetic No Hand Syndrome that couldn’t draw because of no hands and you poured a biiiig vat of pencils in front of her really big and made her look at it sadddd style and she can’t just Pick Up Pencil and draw because No Hand ? what if that happened? then ai art… goood😃😄?”
the most ironic thing about pro ai people being like “BUT IMAGINE IF THERE WAS A DISABLED PERSON WHO COULDNT DRAW?! AI ART WOULD BE SUCH A USEFUL TOOL TO DISABLED PEOPLE WHO ARE PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO DRAW!” is that by virtue of saying that they have outed themselves as knowing jack shit about the online art world because a huge majority of artists have carpal tunnel or some other pain condition in their hands like tremors that makes drawing Painful. like ohhh wow yeah ….it would be such a huge innovation if there was …. a tool that would make drawing easier….it’s not like every art program on earth comes with ….. oh i don’t know… a stabilizer that would completely alleviate this problem..??? yeah it would be really nice if that would happen. but yeah it’s such a miracle of technology that we disabled people FINALLY have a method of creating art! by creating something completely artificial and inauthentic !!! it’s SUCH a gift from god THANK you random person on the internet! do you want all the disabled people in the world to come to your house and throw a party? do you want a cake? do y

All this in 5 minutes of googling. There are so many artists without hands creating art, all sorts of art, that AI "saving" disabled people is a horrible take.
And seriously speaking, does art need to be super awesome to be art? No. Draw a line. Great, you made art! Draw many lines with different colors. You made more art!
