Okay I feel as though we don't properly acknowledge how WILD it is that Jason not only survived fighting a titan one on one but also killed it with his bare hands. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the titans stronger than the gods? Isn't that why they got the giants involved, why they got their weapons, why they went with strategy over strengthābecause they would have gotten their shit rocked otherwise?
And Jason Grace went and killed one of those mother fuckers with his BARE HANDS, he raw dogged that fight and WON!? Imagine being one of the Olympians and seeing that, it must have been horrifying! Shit no wonder Jupiter (/Zeus) ain't save his ass; patricide is basically a rite of passage in that family and Jason proved he's more than capable of it!

iāve seen this assertion and tweets like it several times so letās actually check the text, shall we! first, what he is referencing is this moment during the war games in son of neptune:
notice how it says heās fighting in āa completely unorthodox styleā unlike how a roman would fight and this is why they arenāt prepared for his assault. it also says the sheer novelty of losing has thrown the defense into chaos. now considering jason is considered a sword master and spent MONTHS with the greeks, itās safe to assume heād have trained in their sword fighting methods. yes jason trained in one specific style of combat but so did percy, we just never see a situation where jason has to sword fight all of the greeks. in fact, he even says in house of hades that he struggled with the strict rules of the romans
now letās get to the meat and potatoes: who would actually win in a fair fight? many people assert percy could and use this quote from mark of athena as evidence:

jason and percy are fighting and jason knocks percy off of his horse with a lightning blast (i would argue that bouncing lightning off of your sword is not predictable). he has his sword six inches from percyās face when piper distracts him with charmspeak. this gives percy time to recover and he is able to sweep his legs under jason, making him hit his head and fall unconscious. percy almost kills jason until piper is able to charmspeak him. now piper is clearly a variable in this fight seeing as she stopped each of them from killing the other so if you take her out, what happens? easy. jason stabs percy through the face and wins. it is only because piper stopped jason in the first place that percy even had a chance to get that close to killing him at all. sure they are both highly skilled fighters and had he not used lightning, jason might not have won, but he did use the lightning because he has it along with flight and being able to harness air. percy discovered in tartarus that he was able to bend poison to kill akhlys; what happens when jason realizes he can pull the air from peoplesā lungs?
i understand percy is everyoneās favorite but can we please use our brains from time to time? yall hate jason for not being percy and refuse to acknowledge anything that makes him interesting because you base all of your info off of the lost hero in which he spends the majority of the book without a memory so OBVIOUSLY he wouldnāt be super interesting to read. even in his first chapter of the lost hero, he is knocking the socks off of his opponents AND by the end of the book, already learning greek fighting techniques of slashing rather than stabbing
anyway idk how to wrap this up i just want yall to acknowledge that jason is OP
Not sure how many people are gonna agree with me on this but I strongly believe Jason never got all of his memories back.
We hardly ever get any mentions of his past even in his POVs when heās not talking to anyone. I mean nothing reminded him of his past at CJ? Absolutely nothing?
Nothing the others said that might remind him of his cohort? Nothing he ate reminded him of cafes that are around New Rome? Nothing Piper might have done that reminded him of Reyna before Charleston?? Are you serious??
I think Rick did this because he couldnāt bother giving Camp Jupiter āa personalityā. I also think by this point we can fully accept that Rick favours some of his characters (Percy) over others and I genuinely think this is the same between the two camps.
Itās also widely acknowledged that he couldnāt bother expanding on Jasonās background. The boy was raised by wolves, do you know how fucking cool it wouldāve been if he had some subconscious wolfy habits?
All we get is the memory of Thalia and I actually believe Juno planted that memory. I donāt think Jason was old enough to remember Thalia until that moment, he was too young when he was abandoned.
So yeah, I donāt think Jason got all of his memories back, at least not the substantial ones at CJ.

the thing about writing powerful rivals, rick, is that you need to actually show us that they have equal amounts of power š especially when the rival is the son of the king of olympus.
you can't make percy magically one up jason, randomly knock jason out in every fight so that he doesn't get to use his abilities, and shoehorn every character commenting on their "rivalry" and call it a day.
even little things like percy getting the gorgon's blood and jason not getting his memories up until very late in the books show preferential treatment
jason was considered percy's "competitor" yet it felt like he was only there to show us how ridiculously OP percy was. what was the point of making them roman and greek representatives of eachother if you don't let jason unleash his full potential intentionally because you're scared the fandom will like jason more?
Jason's lack of backstory is easily bc we got introduced to him as an amnesiac tbh. New characters like Leo immediately had past flashbacks within a few pages into his POV about his mom and Tia callida. Now I'm just realising how different it would've been if SON was published first with everyone mentioning the mysterious perfect, Jason Grace, and included a few "leader Jason" flashbacks from reyna, or just general childhood flashbacks of how he refused to join the prestigious first cohort and joined the twelfth instead to bring glory to it, while defending the unpopular kids from getting bullied, when he led the battle of mount orthrys and killed krios, and THEN we got to meet him in TLH. Where he's all clueless and silly, nothing like how "heroic" he's described by Reyna and others, he'd be unaware of how much ppl look up to him in a camp that's miles away, and noble he actually is, while we know it. It would make him more endearing to read about since we know everyone knows him as the mighty golden boy.
He'd even be considered stronger if rick has done this, to the point that even the brick jokes wouldn't affect the reputation against Jason's power. Since we got to SEE his fighter moments in flashbacks. So we KNOW he's a tough guy.
Gosh that would've fixed everything. Ppl would've loved him.
And the majority of the readers only hated Jason bc he was introduced so randomly, making ppl wonder where Percy was, causing nobody to care about the new protagonist, so by releasing SON first, that would've been solved as well, since we'd know where Percy is, and would gain curiosity as to what's going on at camp half blood with this mysterious new boy as a camper. Making us interested in Jason, I feel like the audience would've gotten much better reactions to this as well, and the Thalia being Jason's sister revelation would've been even more epic.

A majority of this fanbase is the same dude. Jason is stronger than percy and they CANNOT understand that. He defeated a titan with his BARE HANDS and has been training since he was 2 or 4 years old. Percyās training consisted of him just going on quests and trying to defeat Kronos. Im not trying to say percy isnāt strong because he is strong but he isn't the strongest character in the series. Rick just makes him op because heās biased
We need to understand that jason is a strong character because Iām tired of people just being biased for percy. Jason is definitely not a copy of percy and heās āboringā because he was a fucking child soldier and forced to grow up at a young age

You know maybe the real reason Jupiter never shows up is because heās well aware his son killed single-handedly killed a titan.
And just does not wanna pull the pin on that grenade and accidentally invoke his wrath. You know because they come from a lineage where every father had been killed and usurped by their son.
And for all his might and pride he is nowhere near the level of a titan.

I have so many thoughts about jason & the possibilities of his power range. I'll prolly go more in depth on some of these later but take some headcanons for now :O
give me jason who constantly knows where he is when above ground, the same way percy knows where he is in the sea.
give me jason who can heat or cool a room just by thinking about it.
give me jason who can control certain "waves" like sound, the same way percy can control liquids that aren't necessarily water.
give me jason who can project his voice for miles, helping him command the romans or send distress signals.
give me jason who can walk on clouds and mold them to be whatever shape he wants, the same way percy does with water.
give me jason who understands birds (or at the very least eagles), the same way percy can talk to fish.
give me jason who can "see" in the dark, through wind maps or temperature readings the same way percy can see in the depths of the ocean.
give me jason who has a special sort of connection to celestial bodies, like the sun is his brother and the moon is his sister...
give me jason who can travel through lightning strikes, in a similar manner to nico's shadow travel.
give me jason who has a constant defense system to touch, where any unwanted contact is met with a jolt of electricity.
give me jason who knows things only whispered to the wind, because he spends so much time interacting with it that things start to be brought to him.
give me jason who, in a moment of pure panic or rage or desperation, sucks the air out of somebody's lungs and leaves them to choke.
