i am blown away by all your beautiful comments and messages in the last few days. i am listening and learning so i can improve the tool as much as possible for everyone
(Positive reviews and sharing to other platforms are other great ways to support the addon's growth!)

The first gif shows the tool cycling down the paragraphs, from sentence to sentence, in a thick yellow highlight.

See progress on y'alls requests and suggestions below:
🔜 PDF support: PDFs are not websites and the browser's PDF reader blocks access to addons by design, but I am still working to include it. I am coding my own built-in PDF viewer for this!
✅️ Customization: Added a global settings panel with custom colors and hotkeys as requested by users in v0.3.0
✅️ New ways to step: Step paragraph-by-paragraph and soft transition mode were added in v0.3.0 alongside a bookmark option (activated by default).
🔜 Mobile support: I am targeting Firefox mobile and doing further research on other mobile browsers for future updates. Unfortunately it seems Chrome doesn't support add-ons on mobile.
🔜 Other browsers: I am targeting Safari, Edge and Opera in future updates. DuckDuckGo and IronFox have also been requested and noted!
🔜 Tumblr & other socials: I will add support for infinite scrolling and click-to-highlight in future updates. I am studying the viability of expanding sentence detection to work with all-lowercase paragraphs without hurting the overall detection accuracy.
❓️ Google Docs: It's a little tricky to get addons to work well on gdocs but I hope to have it working soon!
❓️ Older versions of Chrome and Firefox: If there are any issues, please send me a report including your browser version and issue and I will do what I can to help.
🚫 Propietary textbook sites: Very likely impossible for the addon to access the copyright-protected, scrapping-protected iframe text. If anyone has insight it is greatly appreciated. Let's keep fighting for a fully open internet. Update: I have been trying to contact textbook platforms for partnership without much luck haha.
🐝 Known bugs:
Wikipedia source links sometimes interfere with sentence detection. You can expect this fixed by the next update.
Text in image carousels is dimmed but not picked up for stepping. I'm studying if I should not dim it or try to get it picked up.
The addon conflicts with BeelineReader, which makes sense since they manipulate the same page elements. The same is true for other extensions that alter text color or rely on exact text placement. It's one or the other at a time, I'm afraid!

hey here's a website for downloading any video or image from any website.
works w/ youtube, soundcloud, twitch, twitter (gifs and videos), tumblr (video and audio), and most other websites you're probably lookin to download stuff off of.
for anyone wondering about privacy and whatnot, i'm happy to say that the developers are pretty committed to have 0 trackers and 0 data retention. you can read more in their "about" section, but here's the basic important stuff:
i kinda love sending passive aggressive emails ngl... feeling a thrill as i kindly ask where i can access the recordings for the Q&A zoom meetings for the event i'm attending knowing full well they did not record them because they didn't stop to think of the people who might be unable to attend due to work, childcare responsibilities, disability, or any other reason

1. no luck reaching out to textbook publishers a few checked my profile but none replied so far 😞
2. found a bug, the sentence detection is inaccurate if there are full stops inside parentheses, i will fix it
3. i wanna record a video for my youtube channel (its in spanish) about the extension showing my face and everything but im so nervoussss im so nervous im on my morning walk i was hoping to go home to record it now. i have to improvise a green screen. i have a bit above 1k followers there so i hope that will bring at least a handful of new users to the extension! i post maybe once every 2 years and im still close to the requirements for monetization (i got the followers but im lacking watch hours bc i dont post often) so maybe i can make that happen before the end of the year yippee
awesome new UI change. i especially like how the "share" button that no one ever uses is now where the like button used to be and will open a prompt that you then have to close. it's pretty cool that it now tells you the number of comments likes and reblogs twice too.
oh cool clicking the "reblogs" button no longer opens the notes. it instead opens a dropdown menu with the option to open the notes. seems like the only thing that this website can do consistently even with less than 20 people working at it is ban trans women
Is there a possibility of being able to use the extension on tables? There is a site I would like to use it on, but looking at it, all the content is in a table. Additionally, you mention site structure as being a problem, but maybe there could be a setting that greatly relaxes the requirements for text to be selected with a warning that it may select things that aren't text or are part of the navigation? Thank you for working on this!
Hi thanks for the message and feedback! I hadn't considered the possibility that stepping through tables could be useful, I will add it to my list to make it an option!
As for the "relaxed mode", I think that's a really clever idea, I don't mind giving it a try! If you or anyone could send me a site where the current restrictions are too strict that would be great, I could use it for testing. I have a feeling the results might be extremely chaotic though haha.

i reached out to 3 edtech publishers (the most requested in the comments of my posts) and so far one rejected the chat request (i have a month of free premium trial so i was able to send my full mesaage still) last night BUT THEN, just a couple hours ago someone from inside the company was checking out my profile so i think it's possible it was actually forwarded internally to the relevant people 🤔🤔🤔 else there would be no reason at all for someone inside the organization to be seeing my page a whole day after i was rejected right. something in the message at least sparked *some* interest to look into my profile so who knows!!
i didnt get a response from the second company yet but im very optimistic about them because they actually have implemented the method of another extension (beeline reader) which has less users and far worse reviews than sentence-stepper so i think there's a chance for collaboration in there
about the last one i have nothing special to say except that they were the most requested by far so i made sure to mention that in the message like hey dude these users of yours really really want to be able to use this with your platform, do you think we could work something out?? he looks friendly in his picture but i dont think he uses linkedin very often
sooo i'm starting a linkedin campaign to contact accessibility people working at textbook companies to see if they might be interested in integrating something similar to sentence-stepper as a feature on their sites!
as much as i dislike "collaborating" with for-profit, pro-copyright companies, it's unfortunately the only way i can see to ever make the sentence-stepper system work on online textbooks and reach the students who need it, so i will try
while researching these companies i learned about openstax.org, a free textbooks site where the extension does work! i understand schools will normally not use a site like this one, but i thought i should share for anyone who may be interested in using it for self-study or as a supplement to your mandated textbooks
[ID: A screenshot of a free intro-to-philosophy textbook open on openstax.org, with Sentence-Stepper being used upon it. END ID.]
wish me luck with my very low chance of success linkedin mission 😂 it is probably a fool's errand, but i will try to write a quick article and then write to 10 key people at companies of various sizes today, stay tuned to see if anyone writes back!
Download Sentence Stepper for Firefox. Step through page text sentence by sentence.
@carladevv's Sentencer Stepper extension has been updated to version 0.3. You can now set the colors and several other aspects of how it helps you follow the text of a web page. So far there are only 18 reviews, but they're all five star.٭

chronicallyjenni 7 Everyday Hacks You Wouldn’t Have Without Disabled People!
You know the little ramp at the end of a pavement? That’s called a curb cut; made for wheelchair users. But now used by parents with buggies, cyclists, people with suitcases and more.
That’s the curb cut effect: when access for disabled people ends up helping everyone.
1. Electric Toothbrush
Originally designed for people with limited grip or coordination, now everyone uses them.
2. Ramps
Built for wheelchair access, but perfect for buggies, bikes and suitcases too.
3. Text-to-Speech & Voice Assistants
Created for blind people and those who struggle with mobility, now it’s how half of us set timers.
4. Velcro
This stuff was used in disability care settings long before it hit trainers and schoolbags.
5. Audiobooks
Originally made for blind readers, now a go-to for multitasking or rest. It's one of my favourite pastimes!
6. Touchless & Automatic Doors
Again made for accessibility but now essential in supermarkets, airports and hospitals.
7. Subtitles & Captions
Originally for Deaf and hard of hearing people, now everyone uses them, on the train, at night, or just to focus better.
Disability drives innovation. Accessibility helps everyone. So next time you use one of these, remember where it came from. Be sure to share this so more people realise the impact disability has on their lives.
Video Description: Jenni, a white disabled woman with auburn hair and using a manual wheelchair, shows 7 everyday hacks we wouldn’t have without disabled people, including the electric toothbrush, kerb ramps, voice assistants, Velcro, audiobooks, automatic doors and captions. These are all examples of the curb cut effect: access tools designed by or for disabled people that now benefit everyone.
my reading addon is waiting approval for firefox and chrome im so nervous. please approve my addon i think it could help at least one other person as much as it's helped me...
it's an accessibility tool i made for myself because i needed it, which basically lets you focus on one sentence at a time as you read large blocks of texts (books, articles, etc.). it offers different highlight styles, some of which use gradients to help guide your eyes from the start of the sentence until the end. you can move forward and back pressing the buttons or using ALT + left and right arrow keys
if you use it and you find it helpful please tell me about it so i can have the motivation to keep improving it. i love knowing people use my tools

I’m a college student struggling with brain fog due to medical issues, I’m definitely going to try this out next time I’m working on one of my reading heavy courses :) a lot of my books are accessible via some website cloud thing on a browser because owning things isn’t real anymore. this looks like something that will really really help me.
@strike-another-match, this is FANTASTIC, thank you - I have probable ADHD and this helps me so much with reading journal articles. FYI, I found a weird bug on sciencedirect.com where it only highlights table and figure captions and not the body text (Windows 11, Firefox 142.0.1)
If there was any chance of making it work with PDFs some time that would be incredible, but no worries if not! Really appreciate your work :)
[Hi I'm OP from my dev sideblog!] Thank you so much for your kind words, I'm glad the addon is helping!
This is really good timing because I was just about to push an update with a lot of new features so I'll try to figure out the sciencedirect bug before I push it so I can include the fix! If I can't figure it out in time, I will try for the next update. Thank you for catching it!!
I am working on a PDF reader that will come built-in with the extension, I post updates on this blog. It's a little tricky and it will probably only work well for PDFs that are simple or have very correct internal structure but I have made some progress.
