and not only that... a lot of the crazy dangerous shit that happens in nascar is Completely Accidental. actually Due To The Wind. even if there are some drivers who dont push or shove... the Literal Wind will just start flicking racers off the track.

guy in front of you braked One Singular Thousandth of a second before you coming into a turn? oops you tap their bumper and you both spin.
if a driver does something actually not allowed, theres an official at every pit box and ones watching all the cameras. theyll put out a black flag and disqualify you. but its very rare. more often theyll fine you season points.
chick definitely uses some of the unpredictability of the sport to cast doubt on his actions, but everyone is aware of that anyway, because thats what most irl nascar drivers do too.
the beefing is part of the threatre of the sport. its all entertainment, and chick is an entertainer. all the cup racers are ;)

dusty and mcqueen should be friends. i feel like theyd be the silliest friends.
they are constantly poking at each other in the comments of Instagram posts and for a while there were rumors they didn't like each other until they posted photos together camping like ????? Guys calm down i love this guy.
(tying into my headcanom abt dusty being disabled) but after dusty's injuries and after he starts using a wheelchair more often than not mcqueen does a lot of work to figure out how to make things more accessible for him when he visits and specifically picking things they can do that he can manage in his chair and things he can do without.
dusty is such a piston cup hype man he looves the boys so much when he isnt heavily involved in cheering on his friends in the air racing circuts he wont shut UP about what mcqueen and his friends are up to. he cares them so much.
dusty has a running series where he shares his hikes when hes back at the national park and mcqueen in response has a running counter on when he thinks hes going to run into some major peril. no one except those two think its funny.
they would be able to bond very well over shared injuries and experiences of crashing and competition playing dirty (i will always stand by the fact dusty needs to sue everyone possible LMAO)
