So, apparently Jaboukie is a known Comedian (I don’t pay attention, so I didn’t know them before I Googled them) and this was a joke, a piece of satire. Which is funny, because:
1. It ignores Poe’s law. "Without a clear indicator of the author's intent, parodies of extreme views will be mistaken by some readers or viewers as sincere expressions of the parodied views." Which means you can’t complain when people take your “jokes“ seriously.
2. Being a comedian doesn’t automatically make everything said a joke, and being a comedian automatically make a joke funny, which brings us to:
3. Just because something is a joke doesn’t make it funny. If you have to tell someone "it’s a joke,” the joke probably wasn’t that funny (or you infringed upon Poe’s law (or you’re a bully trying to excuse your horrible behavior)).
4. Comedians are just as fallible as human beings. Sometimes, what they say isn’t a joke and is instead a reflection of their true beliefs. Sometimes, comedians are shitty human beings. Therefore, the delivery of what they said is important. But, again. Poe’s law.
Its Jaboukie a shitty human being? No. Well, probably not. I don’t know him, I don’t follow him, I ain’t him. Unless we find undeniable proof, I could never say either way. But he did infringe upon Poe’s law, because I could 100% imagine someone on Twitter making that post with complete sincerity. In fact, there’s probably is a post out there that echos this exact sentiment, but seriously. Does Jaboukie deserve ridicule for this post? Absolutely. He’s a comedian and he failed at making a joke. We’re legally allowed to assault him with assorted fruits and vegetables /j.
But seriously. No. Don’t harass people. Regardless of whether this is a joke or a reflection of his actual opinions. Critique them, sure. Tell him that it wasn’t funny because there are people who would genuinely believe what was said, or some shit like that. Don’t harass people.
And for the love of G-d, actually do some research! I can’t even find a link to this post so, and considering there’s no date I thought it was faked. But even if it wasn’t faked, hadn’t I researched I wouldn’t have known any of this!
I wouldn’t have known that Jaboukie is a comedian and I wouldn’t have known that this is his general style of comedy.
Research things so you don’t get pissed off at something you barely have context to! I mean, you can still get pissed off if you’re into that. Put a little disclaimer that “Yeah, I know this was probably supposed to be a joke, but--“ before you rant about the topic, but at least get some context!
