I am Captain Sarcasm!

I think ppl take the bismuth arc in the wrong way. I’m against killing people generally, even bad people. But like, offensive violence and defensive violence are significantly different. It’s not fair to hold the oppressed to the same moral standard as their oppressors. The question ‘is it hypocritical for bismuth to use violence against the diamonds?’ gets an easy no from me.

Honestly though? That’s not what I got from the bismuth special. Bismuth is a good allegory for a different problem I see in a lot of passionate social justice movements. The internet calls it larping sometimes? but it’s when activists are so caught up in the passion, aesthetics and experience of activism that they forget the tragedy of the situation, along with the material problems they’re trying to change. For example, I’ve seen this in some leftists who romanticise the idea of a glorious socialist revolution. So much so that they don’t vote at all, they don’t get involved in any small-scale socialist movements, they do not accept incremental change. For them, it’s simply all-out class war, or nothing. The problem is, this isn’t a movie. Real revolution is complicated and slow. Real war is horrific. It scares me how willing some leftists are to throw vulnerable people under the bus to live out what is ultimately just a fantasy.
