Yet another entry for @kyluxshortshorts week! It has been a blast to write this. I hope y'all enjoy!!! š¤š§”
Prompt: Seedy Arcade
Warnings: second meetings, fluff, swearing,
It was the same old same old. Ever since Hux was a kid his family would vacation in the same sleepy beach town. It was a wonderful place to summer as a kid, filled with new kids to play with and activities to do. There was one kid with big ears and even bigger eyes that he loved to see every time he was in town.
Now as an adult, the luster of the town gave way to the peeling paint on the buildings and closed down shops.Ā
Hux had come here on vacation once more with his college friends, Phasma and Dolpheld. It was to celebrate their graduation and this town was still cheap enough for recent college grads to afford.Ā
Phasma and Dolph walked ahead of Hux, cheerfully chatting. The sun set behind them as they walked back to their rental condo. The sleepy town had two bars and both were buzzing full on the main street. A small ice cream shop and movie theater stood tall among the slowly abandoned store fronts.Ā
āOh, Hux, we have to check this place out!ā Phasma excitedly called back to him, pointing at one of the store fronts. Hux stopped and looked at the sign in the window, Winnerās Arcade it read in faded white lettering bracketed by more recent decals of video game characters.
āAre you sure? This place looks like itās seen better days.ā The red head said.
āThis whole town has seen better days, Hux. We donāt have anything else to do tonight and when was the last time any of us has been to an arcade?ā The blonde argued, throwing her arm around Hux and Dolphās shoulders.Ā
āIt does look rather fun.ā Dolpheld agreed. Hux heaved a small sigh and nodded in acceptance. Phasma gave a whoop and shoved them through the open door.
The arcade looked like it hadnāt been updated since the 80s, the sticky blue carpet and neon lighting had certainly seen better days. The stench of cigarettes and candy clung to the air. The arcade machines were a mix of newer and older. One looked like an original Donkey Kong game. There was a couple of kids, completely without their guardians, running around and booping each other with some blow up sword likely given from the lone employee standing behind the prize counter.
Phasma strutted over the coin machine and stuck a ten in, the machine groaned in protest as it tried to spit out the quarters.Ā
āHey, wait, that machine is broken!ā The employee warned as he came out from behind the counter. He had black hair and dark eyes and his t-shirt was tight around his muscled arms. He looked about their age. He was quite handsome.Ā
āSorry!ā Hux cringed slightly at the way his voice pitched up a bit.
āItās okay. I had an out of order sign on it but those kids took it down.ā He promptly unlocked the machine and pulled the ten dollar bill out of the mechanism and then filled a cup with coins.Ā
āHere ya go!ā He handed the cup to Hux and he got a better look at his face. There was something familiar about his strong nose and deep brown eyes.Ā
āThank you, sorry to be a bother.ā Hux awkwardly smiled.
āItās no bother. Certainly not as much as those kids.ā Just as he finished saying that, one of the children threw a cup of soda on the ground with a loud crash.Ā
The worker gave a great sigh, clearly holding onto the last of his sanity. He then excused himself and slinked away.
His friends smiled at Hux.
āWhat?ā
āYou were having a moment with him.ā Phasma snickered as she took the cup of coins from Huxās hand. He hadnāt even noticed the tight grip he had on it.Ā
āI was not!ā He exclaimed as they wandered over to one section with a couple of classic Super Mario games.
As they played, Hux couldnāt help but steal glances at the handsome arcade worker. He was fighting with his brain to find out why he was so familiar. He didnāt want to accept that maybe heād just seen him around before when he visited. There was something intimate about the way theyād locked eyes earlier. It seemed too familiar.
By the time they were done, they had accumulated a small mountain of tickets. The handsome worker was vacuuming the carpet, as if that would help with the stickiness. As they approached the prize counter, the man looked up and smiled before halting his task to assist them.
āThat is quite a few tickets. Sorry our ticket counter is out of commission too, so this might take awhile.ā
āWow, it is a miracle that this place is still open.ā Phasma commented as the worker began to count the tickets.
āItās a miracle anything in this town is open. When I was a kid, there were a lot more tourists and locals. But everything has gotten more expensive since then so⦠less people here in general.ā He said, almost wistfully.
āYeah, I guess being a local, you would have seen that decline first hand.ā Phasma podded.
The man nodded, āYep. Less and less people every year. But some still come, often the same groups of people with the occasional influencer or wannabe influencer. People who like this place keep coming back.ā
He looked at Hux with his intense brown eyes and something sparked in his memory.
āBen?ā Hux asked. There was no way that this large man was the same scared little boy he would play with as a child.
āGlad to see you still remember me, Armitage.ā Ben smiled at him.
And now they were having a moment. It was as if no one else was there. Ben had really grown into his face and now Hux couldnāt help but notice the muscles that strained against his shirt. He could feel the heat creeping up his body in embarrassment.
āWow, I really didnāt think Iād see you again⦠Itās been what? eight years?ā Hux was desperate to keep the conversation with his childhood crush alive.Ā
āMore like ten⦠Iāve gotten a lot taller since the last time you saw me so I am not surprised that you didnāt recognize me.ā
āWell, it is great to see you.ā He awkwardly rubbed his hand on the back of his neck.
āItās great to see you too.ā
āSo, you both must have a lot of catching up to do!ā Phasma butted in, all to happy to meddle in Huxās love life.
Before Hux could save face, Ben let out a long hum.
āYeah, we do. What do you think about getting together for coffee tomorrow? I have the day off.ā

Prompt: Motherās Wrath
Warnings: Fluff, Leia is pissed, swearing
~
Ben bounced his leg with anxiety on the bus. Armie brought his hand and rested it on his restless leg, the gold ring on his finger catching the light. Ben looked at his boyā no, his husband, who had a calming expression on his face. He forced his leg to still, the container of brownies thankful for the lack of jostling. The announcement they were planning to make at the family barbecue had been weighing on his mind for a while. But it was important.
The bus slowed to a halt at their stop and the two men exited swiftly. The walk to the house was tense but the soft summer breeze calmed the atmosphere.Ā
As Ben climbed the stairs onto the porch of his childhood home, he was hit with a massive wave of anxiety all over again.
āWhat if theyāre upset?ā He started to spiral.
āThe whole reason we did this is because we knew theyād be okay with it.ā Armie answered, reaching up to ring the door bell.
āBut, mom was so looking forward to itā¦ā
āItāll be fine. She might be a bit disappointed-ā
āThatās worse!!ā
āNo it isnāt.ā
Before Ben could retort, the door opened to his father, Han, dressed in a ridiculous apron that read āI cook as good as I lookā and holding a beer.
āYou finally made it. Your mother thought the buses were running late again.ā
They both laughed a little and entered the house.
āEveryone is already in the background. Go put those sad brownies out on the table.ā
āThey are not sad!ā Ben defended, āI have gotten so much better at making them.ā
āSure, kid.ā
They entered the backyard to see everyone there, just as expected. Uncle Chewy was talking to Uncle Luke by the grill, Benās cousin Rey and her friends ā Finn and Poe ā were swimming in the pool. His mom was messing with a speaker. Armieās friends, Phasma and Dopheld, were already standing by the cooler, drinking to their hearts content.Ā
The warm sun beat down as Ben made his rounds talking to everyone in the yard. Armie got roped into helping his mother with fixing the speaker. It was always sweet seeing just how much his family had accepted his husband. He knew it meant a lot to the red head too, as his own family was never much of a family.
Ben felt like he was going to explode. Every minute that passed, the anxiety of the announcement welled up inside of him. He and Armie agreed to make the announcement after dinner was served, when everyone was sitting together. But it proved to be too much. He just wanted them to know. They had kept the secret for three whole weeks, but it felt too suffocating to keep it any longer.
āWe have an announcement everyone!ā Ben said as loudly as possible over the music. The noise stopped and everyone turned towards them. āArmie and I got married.ā
There was silence for a beat. Two. Three.
Then the family erupted. Rey yelled something to Poe and Finn about owning her money. Luke laughed a little before congratulating them. Uncle Chewy scooped them both up into a bear hug and his dad gave him a pat on the back before going inside, muttering something unintelligible under his breath. All in all, it went over rather well.
Except with Benās mother.
āYou what?!?!?!?!ā She shouted, āWhen did this happen!!?!??!ā
āThree weeks ago.ā Armie stepped up, taking Benās hand, āWhen we were on the cruise, they had an officiant and we decided to just do it.ā
Leiaās face was agape. Then, it slowly morphed into pure fury.
āYou got married!!! And I wasnāt there!!! You were okay with your family not being there!?!?!?ā She yelled, absolutely irate.Ā
āMom! Itās okay. We kinda just-ā
āDonāt try to explain this away! If you think you can just elope, you have another thing coming. And poor Armie, he didnāt even get to use that suit he bought, did he?
āHe was okay with it!ā
āNo! We are still going to have the wedding so your beautiful husband can wear that suit and your family can celebrate with you. Do you understand?ā Leia gripped Benās ear, like he was in grade school again, to emphasize her point.Ā
āOkay! Okay!ā
āGood!ā She let go and stormed off, muttering indigently about the betrayal.Ā
āI think that went rather well.ā Armie said, grinning wildly.

Prompt: Tiki Bar
Warnings: first meeting, swearing, Hux is a slut, nothing explicit only implied hook up.Ā Ā
~
Hux sat at the bar, enjoying the sun of his vacation. The planet was a beach world, beholden to tourism and filled with kitschy entrapments to extract as much money as possible from said tourists. This bar was a part of a massive resort, the finest his salary could afford. It was an upscale, all inclusive experience right on the beach front. It was his one vacation this year and he was making the most of it ā drinking, clubbing, and sex galore.
Hux sipped his cocktail, looking around for his next sexual conquest. There was only a couple of others at the bar, one couple happily canoodling in the corner, an older man with not much hair, and a tall woman. The sun was still high in the sky so there was no rush. The red headed general was picky about the men he chose to engage with. However, at this resort there were plenty of men that fit his requirements.
As Hux was adjusting his sun glasses, a muscular human man saddled up to the bar. He was shirtless, expansive chest and abs glistening with sweat. He brought his large hand up and pushed his shaggy black hair out of his face. The man leaned on the counter, right next to Hux. It gave the red head a fantastic view of his muscled back and ass. Damn that man was sculpted by the gods. Hux was almost jealous of it, maybe he would feel better under that body.
The man then turned his head towards the general, and Hux has never been happier for the sunglasses keeping his gaze slightly ambiguous.Ā
The smouldering brown eyes locked onto him, tracing the other manās form. Hux took notice and leaned a little harder on the bartop, arching his back ever so slightly to create an appealing silhouette.Ā
Perhaps his next catch had swam directly into his net.
The dark haired stranger turned back to the twiālek bartender and placed his order. Hux turned his head the other way, fake admiring the corny decor.Ā
āYou want another drink, red?ā A deep voice cut through the air. It sent a pleasant shiver down Huxās spine. He turned his head back to the strangers, playing coy.
The stranger hummed and muttered something to the bartender, who then rolled their eyes. Hux removed his sunglasses and fluttered his eyelashes. The stranger raised his eyebrow in interest. The tension was growing.
The bartender then placed a drink in front of the stranger before moving down to Hux and placing one in front of him.
āIf you two are going to fuck, please keep it out of the public eyeā¦ā The long suffering twi'lek interrupted.
āDonāt worry. I donāt cause troubleā¦ā Hux stated, more to the man he was staring down than the twiālek behind the bar.
āYou seem like trouble.ā The dark haired man replied, playfully.Ā
For @kyluxshortshorts week! Enjoy this little bite of angst š¤š§”
Prompt: Exile
Warnings: past mpreg mention, desertion, break up.
~
The rain beat against the windows, the mumbled sound almost defining as Hux moved throughout the kitchen of his pod-like home. The metal walls felt like they were closing in with the lack of sleep and other adult interactions. But the isolation was necessary for not only his survival but his sweet babyās safety. He went into exile to protect her after all.
Hux jolted when soft cries echoed throughout the small space. He kept himself from sighing. This was the life he chose for himself. He didnāt have to have the baby, but he was so ecstatic when he found out about her. A new chance at a new life. It only took a few steps to reach the crib where the two month old was complaining, her face scrunched in displeasure. How dare her papa take more than a second to pick her up.Ā
Hux gently picked up his daughter, bringing her to rest against his clothed chest, patting her back to sooth her. She hiccupped softly as she calmed down, happy to be in her papaās embrace.
āI know, I know. The rain is scary, dear.ā He cooed.Ā
Lothal was not known for its rain. The grasslands were dry most of the year, but the wet season was brutal. On the edges of the outer rim, a solid Republic holdout since the days of the Empire, Lothal was the perfect place for a First Order deserter to hide away for a while. Maybe it wasnāt the best to hide in plain sight, but most were expected to choose desolate, under populated worlds. Lothal also had the appropriate medical pre and post natal care.
He bounced his baby carefully against his chest as he continued to cook himself dinner. It was bare basic food, enough to fuel himself. Heād never learned to cook, it wasnāt needed as an officer in the First Order. But soon enough as his daughter grew, he would have to create more delicious foods, as he read in parenting holos that children would refuse to eat at all if they didnāt like it. He didnāt think his basic food would pass the kid pickiness test.
There was also the small lingering fear, the one pertaining to her other father. Kylo Ren was a very powerful force user. It was nothing short of a miracle that he hadnāt found them, or at least hadnāt approached them. There was the very real fear that his sweet girl would grow into a volatile force user.Ā
Looking down at her, the infantās innocent brown eyes stared back. Hux would not risk his childās safety, he would fight to the ends of the galaxy to keep her safe.

Warnings: Modern au, fluff, Ben and Armie are the cutest, homophobia mentioned, swearing, a whole lotta ice cream
~
The heat was insufferable, beating down on the boardwalk mercilessly. Armieās pale skin was burning despite the fact he had just reapplied sunscreen. His uniform hat covered his sweat soaked hair as he stood at the ring toss game stand, thankfully shaded by an awning.Ā
Armie took this job to support himself during the summer and hopefully save enough to continue university after his father cut him off. The fight was explosive, as it had been building for a while. He displeased his father by changing his major from a medical tract to architecture. The ensuing argument spilled many pent up emotions and resentments. It ended when Armie let out that he was gay. And then he was kicked out. He was thankful for his friendĀ
It seemed like a good idea at the time because the hours were reasonable and the pay was good. However, in the Southern California sun it was the worst decision he couldāve made. The one upside of this outdoor hell scape was the ice cream stand on the boardwalk.
Everyday, when he was on break, Armitage would brave the heat a little longer to get a strawberry cone before retreating into the tiny, but air conditioned employee lounge. It was reasonably priced, perfectly fine ice cream. It had nothing to do with the tall, dark haired man that worked the stand. Nothing to do with the unfairly handsome Adonis that sweetly smiled at every child that he served. Nothing to do with the all too tight t-shirt that hugged his bulgingly fit biceps. Nothing at all.
Armie dragged himself to the stand on what surely had to be the hottest day of the year. It was damn near 100 degrees fahrenheit with not a cloud in sight. He felt jealous of the handsome man working the stand because he got to ride out the heat over ice cream coolers. As he approached,he noticed a gaggle of children happily wandering away from the stand, arms full of ice cream treats. The worker smiled at him brightly, his wonderful dark eyes filled with amusement.Ā
āRed! I didnāt think youād make it today!ā He excitedly exclaimed, leaning on the counter.Ā
āI think I need ice cream today more than any other day this summer. Maybe more than any day in my life!ā Armie replied. He didnāt like when people gave him nicknames, but for a man so handsome he could overlook it. And besides, itās not like he knew the other manās name either.
āOf course! It's the busiest day of the year for me. All the parents are caving to their kids because a damn ice cream sounds so good in this heat!ā The man chuckled. āDo you want your usual?ā
āMy usual?ā Armie parroted. He flushed a little at the notion that the hot worker knew him so well and slightly embarrassed that he visited so much for him to have noticed.
āYeah, two scoops of strawberry on a waffle cone.ā The dark haired man smiled brightly.
āOh⦠Can I actually get a hot fudge sundae, please?ā He asked, pulling out his wallet.
āAh, had to keep me on my toes, Red.ā He said as he reached for the ice cream scoop and flicked open the cooler in front of him.
āArmieā¦ā He blurted out before he could stop himself. The man froze and looked up at the redhead, puzzled. āMy name is Armie.ā
āMy nameās Ben.ā He offered in return as he went back to making Armieās order. āI donāt really wear my name tag because I hate it when strangers know my name, but I think my favorite customer gets a pass.ā
Armie smiled to himself as retrieved his wallet. He swore he saw a light blush on Benās face at the admission.Ā
Ben handed Armie the bowel, piled high with vanilla, hot fudge, and sprinkles. When the red head held out the cash for him to take, Ben shook his head.Ā
āItās on the house.ā He insisted. āFor my favorite customer.ā
Armie smiled, āThank you, Ben.ā
āYour welcome, Armie.ā
This routine continued for about a month. He slowly opened up to Ben about himself and Ben would enthusiastically return with musings from his own life. His daily stop at the ice cream stand was the highlight of his days, however, with rent coming due he had to skip his treat for a couple of days. He felt guilty for it in a way, but he also felt like he was denying himself of one of the only truly positive moments in his hard life. Not just denying himself ice cream, but also the interactions with Ben.Ā
Maybe Ben missed it too, because after almost a week, the dark haired man showed up at the little games stall that Armie ran.Ā
āItās weird seeing you without your apron on.ā Armie mentioned, slightly shocked to see him at all. His hair was sweaty and his eyes were bright as he approached. One of his massive hands ran through his hair. It was unfairly sexy.Ā
āWell, you havenāt been to the stand in a few days and I got a little worried.ā His bashfulness was completely magnetic. Armie wondered if he was doing it on purpose ā being so cute and so hot at that same time.
āThank you for checking up on me. I just needed to save a little extra for my rent. Once itās paid, youāll see me every day again.ā The redhead stated. āWhoās covering for you? I have only ever seen you in the shop.ā
Ben managed to look even more shy as he blushed. āMy roommate works the evening shift. I might have bribed him to come in early so that I could come see you.ā
āAlright. Maybe I should give you my phone number, so you can-ā
āYes!ā Ben excitedly cut him off. āI mean, that would be great.ā
They exchanged phones and Armie couldnāt help but grin as he put his contact in, Favorite Customer <3. Perhaps the heart was a little presumptive. However, when he got his phone back from Ben, he noticed the contact read āIce Cream Guy <3.ā
Later that day, Armie received a text from Ben.
Ice Cream Guy <3: soooooooo i knw this is a little wired but like do u wanna get dnnr sometime????
Armie happily typed back.
Favorite Customer <3: I was hoping youād ask. Maybe hoping you would use proper grammar was too much of an ask.
Ice Cream Guy <3: was that a yes or an insult??
Favorite Customer <3: Both <3
After texting back and forth for a couple of hours, they settled on meeting at one of Armieās favorite restaurants that weekend. Armie was absolutely giddy as he got dressed for the date, settling on his one nice shirt and a pair of khaki shorts. He did feel somewhat overdressed to see a man who knew how sunburnt and sweaty he was in the midday heat, but a first date was an important event nonetheless.Ā
Armie arrived to the Mexican restaurant early, his anxiety bubbling through him as he walked up to the door to get a table. The hostess smiled as she showed him to a small table near the back, a large mural of the Mexican countryside behind him.Ā
He sat down, breathing steady to calm himself, and pulled out his phone to text Ben where he was. It was only a couple of minutes later when Ben walked in, dressed in black jeans and a t-shirt for a band heād never heard of. He thankfully looked equally as nervous as the redhead was.Ā
Ben gave an awkward wave as he approached the table, a goofy smile across his face. Armie returned the gesture with a quiet āheyā as the other man sat down across from him.
āSooooooo, do you come here often?ā The dark haired man asked, picking up a menu.
āYeah, all the time. Itās one of my favorites.ā Armie replied, glancing down at his own menu.
āWhat do you recommend?āĀ
āI always get the enchiladas. Or sometimes the taco salad.āĀ
Ben hummed in response. A waitress came and placed a basket of chips and salsa on the table before introducing herself as Phasma and asking for their drink orders. Ben ordered a soda and Armie got a beer.
āI really shouldāve asked how old you were before I asked you on a date.ā Ben quipped as Phasma walked away.
āHow old did you think I was?ā
āHonestly? You look a little younger than me so I assumed you were 19.ā
āWell Iām 22. How old are you?ā
ā20. Iāll turn 21 in November.ā
āAh⦠My birthday was just last month.ā
āHopefully, my age isnāt a deal breaker.ā
āYou arenāt a teenager so Iām perfectly fine. I do think the muscles make you look older.ā
āYeah, a lot of people are surprised. I was really skinny in high school and only started working out after I joined my frat.ā
āAh, so where do you go to college?ā
āUCLA. Iām a double major in English and Political Science."Ā
āWow, you must be busy.ā
āWell, I only did Poli Sci to appease my mother. Sheās a state senator.
āDamn. I go to UCLA too. I study architecture.ā
āOh come on! You canāt be hotter than me and smarter than me. Thatās just unfair.ā Ben joked as the waitress came back with their drinks and took their food order.
āNow wait a second. You canāt be two hundred pounds of pure beefcake and claim Iām the pretty one.ā Armie insisted.
āBut your accent is so hot and your face is really pretty.ā Ben argued, unseriously. āMy nose and ears are too big for my face.ā
That silly argument went back and forth and back and forth for the entire date. And their entire relationship. Down to their wedding vows.
They served ice cream at their wedding instead of cake.Ā

please read this even if you're not indian. especially if you're not indian.
you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
⢠infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
⢠youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
⢠only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
⢠manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
⢠journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
⢠even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.
india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.

In a new story, Livia Gershon writes about Milwaukee mayor Daniel Hoan, who believed the strongest case for socialism was a city government that worked. For Hoan, this meant fighting corruption, improving public services, supporting clean drinking water, and using local government to make daily life better for Milwaukee residents. The story traces how he and other Midwest socialists turned big political ideas into practical city work, including utility reform, fairer taxes, public health measures, and programs meant to serve everyone in the city.
This is about the sexiness of The Golden Girls but I really feel the need to remind the world of how fucking progressive this show was.
In the episode 72 hours, we find out Rose may have contracted AIDs during an emergency gallbladder surgery.
Rose: Why me, Blanche? I'm tired of pretending I feel okay so you won't say, 'Take it easy', and I'm tired of you saying 'Take it easy' because you're afraid I'm going to fall apart. Dammit, why is this happening to me? I mean, this isn't supposed to happen to people like me. You must've gone to bed with hundreds of men. All I had was one innocent operation.
Blanche: Hey, wait a minute! Are you saying this should be me and not you?
Rose: No! No, I'm just saying that I am a good person. Hell, I'm a goody-two-shoes!
Blanche: AIDS is not a bad person's disease, Rose, it is not God punishin' people for their sins!
In Isn't it romantic? we find out Dorothy's childhood best friend is a lesbian who recently lost her partner. She confesses she has feelings for Rose. Rose turns her down but makes it clear that she still wants to be friends even though she doesn't return those feelings.
Sophia: Jean is a nice person. She happens to like girls instead of guys. Some people like cats instead of dogs.
Jean: Rose, about last night. I should never have said anything.
Rose: You only said what you were feeling.
Jean: It's just that this last year has been so difficult for me. Pat was the person I planned to spend the rest of my life with. And when she died, I just felt so terribly alone. Empty. I thought I could never care for anyone again. Until I met you. I just got very confused. I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable.
Rose: Well, I have to admit that I don't understand these kinds of feelings. But if I did understand, if I were, you know, like you, I'd be very flattered and proud that you thought of me that way.
Ebbtide's Revenge gives us Phil's funeral, and Sophia addressing him wearing women's clothes.
Rose: So what if he was different? It's okay that you loved him.
Sophia: I did love him. He was my son, my little boy. But every time I saw him I wondered what I did, what I said, when was the day I did whatever I did to make him the way he was.
Angela Petrillo: What he was Sophia, was a good man.
Sister of the Bride, where Blanche's brother Clayton brings his boyfriend to town, because they're planning on getting married.
Blanche: Oh, look, I can accept the fact that he's gay, but why does he have to slip a ring on this guy's finger so the whole world will know?
Sophia: Why did you marry George?
Blanche: We loved each other. We wanted to make a lifetime commitment. Wanted everybody to know.
Sophia: That's what Doug and Clayton want, too. Everyone wants someone to grow old with. And shouldn't everyone have that chance?
There are so many episodes I could sit here and quote but this show is still so important. It isn't perfect, there are jokes that definitely don't land that I will not sit here and defend, but in the context of when it was created? This show is a fucking masterpiece and deserves respect for that.
Her cool, cultured, interesting friend starts to show who she really is when she wants to take Dorothy out to a nice place... but no Jews allowed. This was not uncommon IRL. Perfectly acceptable, even.
I never in my life want to hear about Boomers not being "progressive" ever again.

Evacuation Prep:
As the world changes, it is important to be prepared to safely and efficiently evacuate your home, potentially with little or no warning. Preparing ahead of time can help to reduce stress and anxiety, and help you evacuate safely if the time comes.
Red Level (No Warning): People | Pets | Keys. Human life matters most. If you canāt rescue your pets, let them out to give them their best chance. If evacuating by car, donāt forget your keys.
Orange Level (Less Than an Hour): Crucial Meds | Important Papers | Money | Paper Map | Pet Vaccination Records. Crucial meds and medical equipment. Papers including passports, birth certificates, medical records, etc.. Multiple forms of payment. Paper map with marked evac routes in case of signal loss. Phone. Most evac centers require vaccine records for pets to be allowed in.
Yellow Level (More Than an Hour): Photos | Hard Drives | Computers | Chargers | Irreplaceable Items | OTC Meds | Pet Supplies | Pet Food | Clothes | Weather Gear. Family photos. Hard drives and computers. Make digital backups ahead of time. Charging cords. Irreplaceable items such as collectibles and mementos. Over the counter medical supplies such as Aspirin and tampons. Pet supplies such as bowls, crates, toys, and litter. Pet food and treats. Clothes. If you are running out of time grab your laundry basket. Weather gear if needed.
Green Level (General Preparedness): Food | Water | Radio | N95 Masks | Multitool | Power Pack | Gas | Stove + Fuel | Flashlight | Toiletries | Emergency Contact Info | Bedding | First Aid | Can Opener. Easy prep, shelf-stable food. Water. Battery powered/rechargeable NOAA weather radio. N95 masks for smoke. A multitool. Rechargeable power pack for phones. Keep your car at least partially fueled at all times. Portable stove and fuel for cooking food without power. Flashlight and spare batteries. Toiletries including hair products, toothbrush and paste, etc.. Emergency contact info for friends and loved ones. Spare pillows and blankets. Dedicated first aid kit. Can opener.
Save yourself time and stress by preparing an evacuation bag ahead of time and keep it in an easy to access place. At the end of every season rotate out the perishable items within such as food, water, and medications. The more you can keep in the bag, the more time youāll have to grab everything else. Remember, it is okay if you canāt do everything. Some preparation is better than no preparation.
