Paralives is finally out in Early Access, as of today, and you know what that means! Patrochilles time! Peacetime modern AU means they get to just live a cozy beach life and have regular careers.
They have a ~7" height difference (Achilles ~6'4", Patroclus ~5'9").
I'll reblog with updates later when I have more gameplay screenshots.
Three different homemade baked goods from the past few days using the base stir-and-roll biscuit dough recipe from the old Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook my family has (and this morning I discovered I've managed to memorize the recipe!) and subtle modifications (adding sugar and spices or fruit for the scones).
Made cheesy salmon gravy for the first batch of the biscuits (not shown), and am planning on rolling it over into a cheesy salmon pot pie with a fluffy Bisquick style top-only crust (yay for childhood chicken pot pie nostalgia!) this evening.
Choose your Patroclus
Trying to keep up my motivation for drawing on my computer with my tablet, after likely losing a sizeable swath of my mobile work due to accidentally uninstalling Clip Studio Paint on my dinosaur of a phone that can't reinstall after the newer updates, so...
Which character (and which AU) should I draw?
Machaon (Canon Era)
Machaon (Space Opera)
Marcella (1880s Logging Camp AU Machaon)
Patroclus (Canon Era)
Cleopatra (fem!Patroclus, Space Opera)
Silas (1880s Logging Camp AU Patroclus)
Podalirius (Canon Era)
Paddy (1880s Logging Camp AU Podalirius)
Achilles (Canon Era)
Pyrrha (fem!Achilles, Space Opera)
Killian (1880s Logging Camp AU Achilles)
Other (comment)
(I don't have a specific mental image of Podalirius in the Space Opera AU, but if you all request him in the comments, I can try and come up with a design.)
Update: Yes, the old files are just gone. No, I'm still not letting it drag me down - I'm determined to keep working at my art, despite the setback.
Also, 10 more hours to vote, and I know I've got a Machaon mutual (or possibly two) out there who might like the chance to cast their vote. Currently, per poll-result-pulling pages, I can see Cleo's in the lead.
Last call for votes! We're down to about two more hours.

Looking back at my earlier ships like... what the FUCK do you MEAN, Lamden set the fucking table for Patrochilles in my brain?
think about the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater. not necessarily the first one you saw in a theater, but your oldest memory of seeing one in a theater. what genre of movie was it?
comedy/dark comedy/satire
action
sci-fi
fantasy
horror/thriller
romance/romantasy
historical/period drama/biopic/documentary/historical fiction/political
drama/tragedy
adventure/epic/superhero
mystery/crime
i have a memory of a film but am not sure what film it is (describe?)
i have never seen a film in the theater/cinema in person
for the purpose of this poll, things like "animation" and "musical" are not options here because those are mediums and can be any genre! i also sort of felt like inclusion of either of these would result in them dominating this particular poll. so instead, think of which of these selections MOST sums up the movie you're thinking of. it's okay if multiple of these apply, but just pick the one that would sum it up best.
also, you obviously don't have to, but please consider leaving the movie and the year it was released in the tags! i am probably going to make a letterboxd list of everyone's responses, especially if this spreads around enough. check back for the link!
I think Tarzan vaguely counts as "historical fiction", so that's where I've placed it in voting.
What the FUCK was that, Outlander producers?!?

Pieced together some of my recent progress/elements into an actual scene!
I feel like I've accomplished something!
Learning to make and bake procedural materials to image textures for game props. I'd like to make some Ancient Greek inspired things, but to do proper black-figure or red-figure pottery — with actual figures, not just a fully procedural pattern like these — I'll need to learn to draw/create layer masks with specific imagery in the right style.

For Traitor: neck retraction exercise. While lying in bed with your head flat against the mattress, give yourself the biggest double chin you can. Repeat 10 times.
For Jackass: stop hiking your shoulders up to your ears. This is pretty much a stress thing, it’s human instinct to protect our neck when we’re under stress so that predators can’t get at it. Easiest way to do that is be elevating the shoulders, so. Periodically take not of where your shoulders are at.
Absolute Fuckwaffle: stretch out your chest. The rhomboids on the back work to keep our shoulder blades back, so when we’re hunched forward they are constantly straining to do their job. Unfortunately it’s not as simple as telling you to stand up straight, since our pectorals get chronically tight and prevent us from doing so. Step one: pectoral stretches. Hold for at least 20 seconds.
Asshole: Superman exercises. Like the rhomboids, the ESGs are straining against the slump. Stretching the chest will help them, too, but then you e got to strengthen your back. Do 20 of those per day.
I kind of miss Finnegan's toy store (Portland, OR), which sadly closed during the pandemic and never re-opened.
They had this outstanding wall of little inexpensive toy masks that only covered your nose, in the shape of animal noses, and when I was little and we'd go to the Oregon Zoo, my mom would often take me by Finnegan's to "pick [my] nose" afterward. I think one of my favorites was an elephant trunk.

Okay, y'know what? Send me these for characters in my Trojan War partial fix-it novel/la and my Arthuriana novel/s.
Just made myself hungry with a description of food in a later chapter (writing each chapter in its own tab of the overarching document, bouncing back and forth as inspiration strikes for each chapter).
"[...] portioned figs to one side, along with a stew of lentils, onion, [garlic] and cabbage with white fish, and a small loaf of barley-meal bread."
Excellent news! I actually made the stew and a slightly coarse and rustic barley quick loaf for late lunch/early dinner today. I also added celery to the veggie mix.
It was good! The bread is a little grittier than I'd like, and I think I'd grind the meal/flour a little finer next time (got myself a coffee grinder for this and other such projects), but it's very good despite the grit (a bad sensory for me) and softens up nicely dipped in the stew.
The stew is as follows (if you're like me):
2 stalks of celery, coarse sliced
1/2 of a medium yellow onion, finely chopped
2 small to medium cloves of garlic, peeled (1 minced + 1 sliced)
1/2 of a medium head of green cabbage, chopped
1 6-8oz fillet of cod, prepared* and flaked
1 16oz bag of lentils
Olive oil (for cooking down celery, onion and garlic)
(* in my case, the fish fillet was baked ahead according to directions on the package — from frozen — and rubbed thoroughly before baking with olive oil, garlic powder and dried dill)
Begin cooking down celery, onion and garlic in a light coating of olive oil in a saucepan.
Rinse lentils and bring to a boil in about 8 cups of water. Forget it's supposed to be turned down to simmer. Finally switch it down to simmer seven or eight minutes into the first ten (10) minutes.
Add celery, onion, garlic, flaked cod, and cabbage.
Remember halfway through simmering this all together for an additional hour that it needs salt. ADD SALT TO TASTE. You'll know it's right when it balances with the fish flavor, but doesn't overpower it. Finish simmering for another half-hour, stirring occasionally.
The bread is from this recipe at Savor The Best, but I used the 3-egg recipe and subbed in 1.5 cups of whole milk + 1.5 tbsp rice vinegar instead of buttermilk (which I didn't have). You can test at the time it says in the recipe, but the center was still a bit too soft for comfort and ultimately I had to bake it an extra 10 minutes with these modifications.
