Coming Clean || Mark and Marlene [1980]
Marlene shook her head, he didnât understand. She didnât deserve anything, she was a horrible person. âNo, I donâtâ she said quietly. She could barely recognize herself anymore.
She bit on her lower lip an sighed. âYeahâ she whispered and rubbed her face. âI know, Markâ she groaned irritated, not at him, but at herself. âI⌠it started before he got marriedâ she admitted, rubbing her forehead with her fingers. It was clear that she had to tell him now and all she wanted was the earth to swallow her.Â
âI thought it was a one time thing because he was not going to uh, cancel the weddingâ she said quietly. âBut⌠he started showing up afterwards and⌠he promised that he was going to leave his wife⌠he said that he needed a bit of timeâŚâ she said even though she knew those were just empty words. âI donât go looking for him⌠he just shows up andâŚâ and he knows he has me on the palm of his hand. Marlene sighed tiredly and rubbed her face with both hands, trying to swallow back her tears. âHe⌠heâs using me and I canât put an end to it because Iâm a fucking idiotâ she mumbled miserably.
Mark wanted to do whatever he possibly could to Edgar Bones for hurting his baby sister. No one got away with hurting a McKinnon, not even someone who had practically been family to them. He listened to her and the more she spoke the angrier he got, he was lucky that he was rational enough not to leave right then and there to go strangle Edgar in his own home.
He pushed down his anger the best he could and turned towards his sister a little more. âYou cannot keep doing this, Marlene. You hear me? Edgar is nothing but a leech, sucking your emotions dry and using you. And I hate that he is hurting you but he is not going to stop it so you need to. And you cannot do this to Garret, okay?â he said, knowing he was being tough on her but he honestly wasnât judging. He had done things he shouldnât have in the past too.
