the craziest part of black sails is silvers hair growth over what is supposed to be less than two years. it's also twice what we see because of the curls. nearly a foot of hair growth. whilst being deficient in every mineral and vitamin. what's his fucking secret.

people have talked about the relative non-presence of children in black sails but the ways in which they are present are also quite interesting... they represent the future for sure that's what children always represent but also from the "nothing left but the monsters in the stories they tell their children" thing to the little kids that gawk at flint when he's about to be executed to abigail to the kids reading the general history of the pyrates at the end they are very frequently in the position of passing down judgment. which is ever so slightly different from just like, the future will judge us, because it's not about what the children will do when they grow up to be adults. children are judges *in their capacity as children.* it's a war over the imagination of children. which of course makes perfect sense it's the prequel to a children's book.

When I first watched 1x08 a few months ago and Gates turned away to face the door and Flint got that look in his eyes (I mean we all knew what was coming at that point) I just accepted it and went. Well. Sympathies, Hal, but you are in the way. NEEDS MUST. I was obviously sad about the neck snapping and all. But Nassau, baby. Jimmy has a vision. Truly did not strike me that there were people out there who did not become ferociously attached to Flint's gore-covered self right from the get-go. You mean to tell me that you saw his shameless theatrical lying, you saw his desperate monomania, you saw him beat a guy to death with his bare hands (and a cannonball) for an audience. And you didn't like him? You saw his utter disdain for every man in sight and then you saw him turn right back around and very sincerely say "They're not animals, Mr. Scott. They're men starved of hope" and you didn't like him? You saw him fall to his knees at Miranda's door. And saw his whole being collapse with relief when she spoke. And you STILL didn't like him? Such is the curious variety of this great and beautiful world

miranda is a very forgiving and generous person and not generally jealous at all but i think she should get to have some negative feelings about her life getting all fucked up. she genuinely loves flint and knows that he loves her but i think on occasion she should look at him and think damn if it weren't for this guy i might still be in london and my husband might still be alive and i might still be the person he loves most in the entire world and i might not be stuck on this island alone larping as a puritan. and then feel bad about thinking it because it's literally not his fault But. but

zero stars for nolan because odysseus, on his journey home to ithaca, was NOT visited by a ghost that tells him that once he reaches his home, once he slays all his enemies and sets his house in order he must do one last thing before he can rest. the ghost does NOT tell him to pick up an oar, walk inland, keep walking, until somebody mistakes that oar for a shovel. for that would be the place that no man has ever been troubled by the sea. and that's where he'd find peace.

what's so awesome about miranda hamilton is that she knows full well that revenge brings nothing good and that it will probably make her and her loved ones and many innocent uninvolved people more miserable and that it would not be what the person she lost wanted and she has no illusions about any of it. but when push comes to shove even if the end she's been fighting for for two seasons is in sight she simply cannot let the bastard get away with it
