I am shocked at how many people don't have an actively hostile relationship with advertising
I am skipping your ads as fast as I can. I'm skipping past your sponsor read. I'm muting the tv. I'm muting the tab. If they get too annoying I will simply stop trying to watch.
If advertisers can use every manipulative trick in the book to get me to buy their product, I am fully within my rights to do everything I can on my end to make their job impossible
Do anything you can short of harming people to avoid ads. These fuckers do not deserve your attention, they've paid for it, and they aren't paying you. You aren't just within your rights to avoid manipulation, they are outside of theirs. The transgression is solidly their doing. It is morally good to waste their corpo money.
Your mind is the only thing these fuckers haven't monetized effectively yet, don't sell it for free.

Recently a lot of people in my life have told me to stop exposing myself to content that makes me upset. While I would agree this is a recipe for feeling bad, I'm not sure I get it. Do people think that by avoiding things that make them upset those things can't hurt them? I'm not going to claim that exposing myself to these things makes me better or protects me much, but I do believe that by staying informed we have more power over our futures. Shutting ourselves off from the evils all around will not save us.

My siblings worship various Greek deities. They have shrines to these deities in their rooms. This is a point of contention, but whatever, I respect them even if I hold no devotion for their religion.
Earlier a friend placed their boba onto my sibling's altar to Artemis accidentally, and that sibling came down later and handed it back saying "I don't think you meant to sacrifice this to Artemis." It seems to me that is is some mortal folly. If we are to legitimately believe that these gods exist and take your sacrifices and that the sacrifices mean anything to them, then giving them something, and then taking it back, seems like taunting a god. This is before you think about how these are the Greek pantheon, so it's more like taunting an especially ill-tempered god. gods in mythology have ruined people's lives for less.
And this brings me to my final point: I don't think that Artemis cares if you meant to sacrifice your boba. Have you ever had boba? That shit rocks. Taking that from a god is a monumentally stupid thing to do.

I don't think people understand spite.
They see it as this evil thing. They see it as bitter.
But I think on some level, there is value in being opposed to something. There is value to holding on with your teeth and not letting go. There is value to spite in that it is focused.
And maybe it is bitter, but sometimes life isn't sweet. Sometimes the only good way to deal with it is to cut it with something bitter.
I'm not an anarchist, but I have to say I respect anarchists way more than libertarians.
I just can't take libertarians seriously. Really? You're for small government but you aren't willing to go all the way? You don't want the good things that government provides (like the programs that actually help people such as social safety nets and welfare), but you do want it there specifically to protect your favorite economic system? Really? You do know that cyberpunk is a dystopian future right?
Idk, I'm strawmaning here but it's just so silly. I respect anarchists more because at least they're trying to come up with ways to compensate for the lack of government through community programs. Anarchists are serious enough to go all the way, but libertarians are too afraid that someone might get leftist with it to actually support no government.
For the record, I'm talking about serious anarchists, not edgy middleschoolers.
Also, if you're an anarchist or a libertarian I welcome your input on this, I might be wrong, and I'd love to admit it if I am, please correct me about what you believe, I don't know a huge number of anarchists, and I've only ever met a few libertarians so I totally might be wrong.

I'm wondering what people think about how d&d species in the modern day work with employment equity.
Importantly, these are not races. Modern race science has concluded that there is more genetic variation within races than between them (in humans), meaning that there's not a significant biological component to race, and no race is biologically better at anything than another.
But that isn't the case with d&d species/ancestries. Orcs are (on average) stronger and tougher than humans. Elves are (on average) just smarter than other people.
So is it okay if orcs are overrepresented in construction jobs? I don't know the answer here. Also, this is likely to feed some pretty major cultural beliefs about who belongs where.
I'm kind of operating on the assumption that magic isn't real in this world... Idk if that matters.
Thoughts?
I'm still curious about this... I just don't know if it's okay for orcs and minotaurs to be overrepresented in more physically-demanding jobs than elves. And is it okay if elves are more common in more mental jobs? It seems like I should be against this but that's based on real life, and in real life people aren't predisposed toward different callings based on race.
It is fascinating to me how this would affect culture though.

I need to talk about Absolum for a bit.
This is suck a good game guys. I have 13 hours in it and I'm definitely not stopping here.
It is uncommon to see an intersection of quality pieces come together in a roguelike, most roguelikes suffer in one or more places: either the story, art, or gameplay will be shotty somewhere. But Absolum has been absolutely impeccable in all of these three categories. I've never been excited for learning the lore of a roguelike game before, but the more I learn here the more into it I am. They bake the learning of lore into the game in such a way that it doesn't feel like it takes you out of it.
This game fucking rocks guys. Please play it. It's worth playing for the lore alone, but the gameplay and art is incredible and layered.
Something I hate about apps with algorithms is that they have this aversion to giving the consumer control over what they see.
As an example, in Spotify, you can exclude a playlist from your "taste profile". Now, if you do this, you might assume that it makes the algorithm that recommends you music no longer factor those playlists in, but when you actually press the button, it says they will have less impact on your recommendations.
And this is a pattern I've been seeing all over. If you tell YouTube not to recommend you a channel, they will only do so for 30 days.
There's a broader point I could try to make here about capitalism but I'm tired, so instead I'm just going to say that apps that make money off of your engagement and attention want you to have very little control or curating power over the content you consume, which seems crazy to me. The whole point of these apps is that we get to consume content that we want, and that we can get recommendations based on that, and yet we cannot actually control what we get recommended.
