Tyrrell’s - Mature Cheddar and Chive

Also known as the posh cheese and onion, Tyrrell’s have smashed these boys out of the park.

I can very happily say that the cheese and onion variant of a bag of crisps is my go to. If someone put a gun to my head and said “PICK SOME CRISPS. PICK THEM NOW. GO ON MATE”. I would simply say cheese and onion and the gun would go away.

However, Tyrrell’s have changed the cheese and onion game with their mature cheddar and chive. The scent of these villains seem lighter than what you would expect Walkers to churn out, but the taste hits you like a bloody train. CHEESE. CHIVE. JOY.

Look at the chives on this unit. These chives add character. These chives add passion. No other crisp can hold a finger up to what these chives are doing.

I may be over exaggerating but I genuinely like these crisps. Fact.

Kettle Chips - Crispy Bacon & Maple Syrup

Pancake Day has come and gone but these crisps by Kettle are here to stay! I went into these thinking that they were going to be your standard smoky bacon flavour but I was met by a pleasant sweetness from the maple syrup which complimented the bacon nicely.

The bag is a vibrant pink which stood out amongst its surrounding bags. I’m actually only going for crisps that have unusual or untraditional flavours now so we can forget about the abysmal sea salted crisps below.

The smell was pleasant and had the smoky bacon flavour that everyone knows but finished in a tingle of sweetness so the maple syrup flavour was heavily evident.

The flavour was nice too but after I finished the bag I did feel slightly sick. Maybe it’s because I did smash through that bag in less than 10 minutes but it’s for the love of the potato.

All in all, Kettle’s Crispy Bacon and Maple Syrup wins 3.3/5!

Walkers Hint of Salt - Natural Sea Salt

As you can see, I’m kicking this thing off with a bloody bang. Natural sea salt. Why did I pick this one? Mainly because I didn’t think this through properly and picked up the first thing at the end of the shelf in Sainsbury’s.

To no one’s surprise these generally are just a bag of ready salted crisps and I don’t know why I got them. I should have bought the olive oil ones. Maybe that’s for another review... I couldn’t really taste the 25% less salt difference as well.

The banner at the top of the bag saying you can have your money back is very tempting to say the least. But I’m not THAT petty.

Now for the ratings. I have decided to go with appearance, taste and smell. I love a good smelly bag of crisps. The more insulting the better.

Appearance: 2/5 - I mean, I managed to pick these up out of the whole bunch on the shelf but it’s still pretty plain Jane.

Taste: 1/5 - It’s just a bit of salt. 25% less actually. I shouldn’t have bothered.

Smell: 2/5 - You know when you go to the beach and you take a whiff? I’m not talking about the flock of seagulls rummaging through the bins. I’m talking about that fresh sea air!! This doesn’t really smell like that and instead smells like the stale chips at the bottom of your fish and chips bag.

All in all, Natural Sea Salt wins a whopping 1.6/5
