INTER ARMA // "The Summer Drones" 

Inter Arma's latest album, Paradise Gallows, is one of 2016's best records; a melting pot of monolithic heft that is as heavy as it is varied. "The Summer Drones" has a very psychedelic, stoner vibe to it, and at times brings to mind the mighty Neurosis. 

TRUE WIDOW // "Entheogen" 

Texan trio, True Widow, create music that traverses a range of landscapes, from shoe-gazing expanses to grand canyons, cut by the weight of fuzzed out stoner rock. "Entheogen", a word which refers to psychoactive substances used in religious rituals, is a prime example of this. 

Attan // “Black Liquid Marrow” // From Nothing

Norway’s, Attan, nail vicious hardcore to gut wrenching doom, resulting in one hell of a calamitous sound. From Nothing will be released on November 30 through shelsmusic, with pre-orders starting on November 2. If you like what you hear be sure to mark the date in your calendars, as only 300 copies of the 12″ vinyl are being pressed. The beautiful artwork was created by Seanna Reilly, and will no doubt look stunning on a 12″ sleeve.

Hooded Menace // “Elysium of Dripping Death” // Darkness Drips Forth

"Elysium of Dripping Death” is 10+ minutes of dark and grimey death/doom from Finland’s, Hooded Menace, and it absolutely slays. Darkness Drips Forth is out October 30 on Relapse Records.

VHOL // “The Desolate Damned” // Deeper Than Sky

I’ve spent the past 24 hours with deafheaven’s third full-length album, New Bermuda, and while I can’t say much at this stage, I can tell you that this is an important record. Hauntingly euphoric, and staggering in it’s beauty, New Bermuda is sure to be a masterpiece of metal’s modern age.

Baroness // ‘Chlorine & Wine’ // Purple

I’ve been anticipating the announcement of this record for what feel likes an age and finally, Baroness will unleash their newest masterpiece, Purple, on December 18th via Relapse Records. ‘Chlorine & Wine’ is the first track lifted from the record and put simply, it’s fucking wonderful. Welcome back, Baroness.

Rivers of Nihil // “Perpetual Growth Machine” // Monarchy

The Conscious Seed of Light was a crushing death metal debut from one of the genres most promising young bands, and based on “Perpetual Growth Machine”, it looks like Rivers of Nihil are on track to capitalise on their deserved praise. It’s also great to see the band collaborate with Dan Seagrave again for the albums artwork.

Turnover // Peripheral Vision

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. It is the wistful desire to return, most commonly in thought, to the happiness of a former place or time; a sentimental yearning for better days. It is a feeling of such specificity for each individual, brought on by very particular sights and sounds.

For me, Peripheral Vision, the second full-length album from Virginia’s, Turnover, is one such sound. A record that effortlessly combines the sounds of the emo revival with a heavy dose of shoegazing dream pop, it’s shimmering guitars and pleasant melodies shrouded in nostalgic haze and cool gloom. Peripheral Vision is just at home in the wind whipped hair and rolled down window of your first car, as it is in the sluggish light of your late afternoon bedroom.
