Top Ten Reasons You Should Hire Me Despite My Disillusionment With Reality And My Subsequent Hatred For The System
— I read in one of your interviews that you ask athletes not to forget about their studies. — I am very strict about this. Of course, I don’t ask them to show their diaries, but I am in touch with the school principal. I always tell the children that studying is important, that I won’t let it slide. I understand perfectly well that not every gymnast will become an Olympic champion, but they won’t be able to live without school knowledge. I look at gymnasts not only as athletes, I want them to become good people.

CAS reasoned decision is out
Obviously this sucks for Jordan but the fact of the matter is that the judges fucked up in her favor 3 times on the day of competition. Crediting the gogean during the inquiry, allowing the inquiry overtime, and giving Sabrina an OOB that never happened.
She got to go up on the podium and have a medal ceremony for a medal she didn’t earn. Ana may get a medal eventually, but she’ll never have that moment of having her flag raised as she stands next to Simone and Rebeca, and Sabrina will get neither. Jordan will go back to a well funded college program and a well funded elite program with tons of potential for endorsements. She’s still got her Olympic gold and silver.
I feel really bad for all of them, this is awful for all three of them, but it’s odd to me that all of the sympathy goes to Jordan and none to the Romanians.
And Sabrina will never get the medal she earned because of the line judges
so many layers to this whole gymnastics scoring scandal like clearly there’s an aspect of horrible anti black racism in the way jordan chiles has been treated on social media + xenophobia against romanians coming from american fans (which is i think driven to some degree by the fervent anti russia sentiments even though that doesn’t make any sense lol) + an aspect of perceived and actual favouritism towards usag as a federation by fig and judges for years that is now reaching a breaking point + americans convinced that actually usag gymnasts are somehow underdogs because romania won a bunch of medals in the 70s. and of course nationalistic jingoism on both sides 🤩
it’s actually proven that americans are the underdogs because they downgraded simone’s beam dismount
ok so i definitely know this but just asking for my friend who doesn’t. can you appeal NDs the same way you can dispute a D score?
I thought it was "no" as well but I went looking through the code and found the following:
(all my page numbers are for the pdf as a whole)
Pg 14 Under 3.1 Rights of Coaches:
And then I went to the Technical Regulations to see more on Inquiry Submissions and read pg 47 Article 8.5 Inquiries of the Score:
It states inquiries for the D score are allowed, but then the line further down the page doesn't explicitly exclude neutral deductions from the scores that are not allowed inquiry.
Then I went back to the CoP because I wanted to know if neutral deductions are technically classified under the Execution panel and they are not. They are part of the functions of the D Panel:
Pg 19 5.4.1:
Following page lays out that the E panel is not responsible for recording neutral deductions and states any Line deductions are told to the D panel.
Not quite sure what this means. I find it weird there is no specific yes/no mention of neutral deductions being inquired. If I find something that more explicitly states I'll update.
really appreciate all this info.
regardless of what the cop says about it, though, i think it's kind of crazy to expect coaches to inquire on OOB calls. they aren't on the podium, they can't be expected to be at every corner keeping an eye on the line; there are literally line judges whose only job is to watch the lines and deduct when there are penalties. like, of course camelia didn't notice the oob problem until hours later. it happened in a corner she was not standing at, and we are supposed to be able to trust the line judges who are making (supposedly) objective calls. again, that is their only job.
That 1 minute time limit
I actually went to check the technical note on inquiries, because I have seen a lot of people saying that Cecile only having 1 minute to submit the enquiry is unfair. And it did seem a little tight to me.
The thing is. She had 1 minute to verbally inquire. This just means walking up to the official and saying you will inquire. At that point the official records the time and she has another four minutes to fill in the form.
The verbal enquiry time is longer for the other gymnasts in the final, but once the verbal indication has been made they also have four minutes to fill in the form.
If no form is submitted then there is no consequences. You only pay once you submit the form.
The FIG set the one minute time because they thought that was enough time to look at the score, go : "That isn't right" and walk to the official and say: "We are enquiring".
Honestly? They aren't wrong.
A competent coach with a gymnast competing last should be watching for the score and standing ready to make this call with enough time to walk to the official and verbally inquire. Particularly if the gymnast in question has elements she has not been getting credit for.

While I do think taking away a medal after a competition is over sets a bad precedent, I really disagree with the “they should give out three medals” or “this gymnast deserves it because taking it away is bad for her mental health.” I mean like, this is an Olympic final. Gymnastics is an elite sport. I feel bad for the athletes but the Olympics shouldn’t be in the business of handing out participation medals. It sucks that Sabrina, who I think had the third best routine that day, is the only one who has no shot of getting the bronze atp
Stripping a medal should only be done as punishment for the athlete violating competition rules (eg doping, age cheating, calling out a hit on your main competitor, etc), not because the judges made an error. I don’t give a fuck otherwise.
I actually think the only reason they are doing this is because they don't want to issue Sabrina Voinea with a medal. Letting Jordan keep hers while Sabrina, who is ranked above her, doesn't have one, looks odd.
The fact that they are removing her medal even though the RFG specifically asked them not to, and given that all president points to just awarding another medal, and she did nothing wrong is very ugly.
I agree, I think it has to do with Sabrina. Jordan having a bronze medal, while the athlete who placed above her doesn't have one, doesn't make any sense. I doubt there are specific rules for this kind of thing, but how can the 5th place get bronze and the 4th nothing?
Issue 3 bronzes then. They didn’t have a fucking problem issuing 4 gold medals that one time
Which is exactly what RGF actually requested.
This is what I'm getting stuck on. I actually understand the CAS ruling but the FIG should have admitted multiple mistakes were made and were awarding the two extra bronze medals. If it's up to the IOC then they should have just said they are in talks about an outcome. Making the statement that they were accepting the CAS ruling and changing the standings with no other information makes it seem like they are screwing over Jordan because of four seconds which is petty as hell. Like the way this is playing out is the worst for everyone involved.
The more I think about it the more I think I’m right about issuing 3 bronzes.
This was clearly a judging error and I think it looks so so bad for them to be hand-wringing about another couple of bronzes when really they’re just damaging their own credibility the longer this nonsense drags on.
Maybe if they didn’t make this error in the first place there wouldn’t be 3 bronzes. Maybe if they didn’t fuck it up step by step after the official ruling they wouldnt be setting this shitty fucking precedent for later on.
Exactly, like this tweet lays it out, the way the competition unfolded it was a judging mistake that affected three athletes. And depending on the combination of different variables unfolding any of the three could’ve taken bronze. They shouldn’t be so stingy and just give all three a medal. It would be the easiest option that would satisfy the most people so we can all move on.
It’s sooo obvious that USA stans only have any empathy for Jordan in this situation, not the two Romanian girls who both did better routines than Jordan and were wronged. Idk how else you come to the conclusion that a Romanian gymnastics legend who is a leader of the federation standing up for her athletes is because she’s actually just a racist
it was so funny watching the rock climbing event that was on for the first ever time at the Olympics this year. the commentators couldn't wrap there heads around how supportive the competitors were and how that actually planned and discussed the climbing routes and problems as a group. it's so funny because first of all the people commenting on this sport have obviously never stepped foot in a climbing gym in their life and second of all if you do any kind of rope or lead climbing, you are literally required to trust your fellow climbers with you safety because they're the one at the other end of the rope stopping you from breaking your neck in most circumstances
like. i know it's a competition for the purposes of the Olympics, but that doesn't mean that all sport is inherently competitive, or that all competition is inherently conflict, and those kinds of attitudes towards sport are why im only just starting to enjoy exercise now in my mid 20s
your biggest competitor in a sport should be yourself and that’s my hot take.

This is adorable
If I had a nickel for every time the Olympic gold medalist on beam had an identical twin who was also an Olympic gymnast, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Ok Sanne and Lieke are actually fraternal twins but in my defense:
1. They look very alike
2. I forgor
Wait, they're fraternal? I can't tell them apart!
Sometimes that just happens. My brothers are identical but we have friends that are fraternal that look more identical than my brothers do.
