6 years looks good on us

Her smile hit me like throwing buckets of silky paint in a white room. The colors warm you and drip down the walls with mouthwatering anticipation…Then BOOM, you’re deaf by the reality in her eyes! The gaze grows across your heart like ivy, and you’ll never forget what music tastes like because the bees will cultivate a garden you didn’t expect after meeting in a train station. Those times you disconnect, even when you know you’re for each other, will leave a metallic taste in your finger tips and have your tongue clammy. You’ll reflect, communicate flowers, and grip through thorny stems. Your words will drip from each thorn until it feeds the soil of your foundation. When the vibe hits again, its not so much a marching band as it is the first bite of food after the flu. All the flavors wrap around your brain in a satiating bliss. You never knew how to have a disagreement until she walked away and your stomach set on fire and tumbled from your body… Now you’ve gathered tools of communication, emotional maturity, and perseverance to express your boundaries and emotions functionally, for the most part. You’re content with pushing your thresholds of comfort to grow together. All the sudden you’re sitting on a futon that you’re both indifferent about, but that’s okay because your feet are interlocked. Your cats are sleeping soundly on each corner of the futon, and your dog is safe between you. The jasmine candle you bought at the store down the road is whispering sweet nothings to your nose as she drifts to sleep. You think about how she is not yours, but her own entity. It’s a beautiful breakdown, watching her navigate through the rolls and punches, coming out of the ring wiping the discrepancies from her brow to find solace with you. The strength of her heart when you crumble to small bits from your own traumas, only to meet her encouragement once more. Helping you remember to lift your chin up so your crown doesn’t fall. We may not chose to be with each other forever, but isn’t that the beauty of it all? At least I’ll always remember the taste of music.
