Expressing regret that the interruption would delay the highly anticipated video game adaptation, the producers of A24âs upcoming Elden Ring film announced Tuesday that the project had stalled after a red phantom named TwinkPunisher invaded the set. âDespite our security teamâs best efforts, a loincloth-wearing invader with the handle TwinkPunisher was able to gain access to the shoot through the use of a Festering Bloody Finger, disrupting production for the foreseeable future,â said a spokesperson for the studio, adding that TwinkPunisher had tauntingly placed a Rainbow Stone on the ground for every take he managed to render unusable by performing the âwarm welcomeâ gesture, by obscuring the actors with the Ekzykesâs Decay incantation, or by repeatedly spamming the âYouâre beautifulâ Prattling Pate over dialogue.

Alecto was angry, and raised her up, and kissed her. The child did not cry out, though blood fell from her lips and tongue, and she was wounded sore. For Alecto knew not how to kiss, except such as it involved the mouth and teeth. And Alecto said to her, Why are you not appeased? That is how meat loves meat.
I love u Alecto đ
there is like. a thin line between 'this fantasy is conservative propaganda' and 'this fantasy is a reaction to living in a conservative society and reflects a desire for fictional control over aspects of life we have no control over', and thus there's also a very thin line between calling something out for being a product of a conservative worldview and attacking someone for just. Dealing With It All. you know?
not that they're mutually exclusive either. but neither is all fantasy a reflection of an author's desired reality. and neither is the seemingly conservative aspect of the fantasy the result of an unexamined bias. sometimes it is the fantasy specifically because of the stress of the world that already exists that it is reflecting but one where it becomes desirable. would this fantasy exist without the pressure cooker of society being fucked? maybe, maybe not, but we don't live in the hypothetical, the stress is there and people need outlets, need fantasy. does that make sense?
there's a post on here, I reblogged it, calling the fantasy of arranged marriages working out conservative at its base. and I don't disagree, that when what we're presented with for the most part are stories where marriage Is the answer, where love Is inevitable, where escape is never presented as an option, where it all conforms down to a typical heteronormative answer to the question being asked of 'what do you do when married to someone you don't want to be married to?' Of course there's an element of conservatism in that. but to write it all off as that feels wrong to me. in the same way that writing off all rape fantasies as the "incorrect" way to experience lust feels wrong to me.
Or: I don't think you can look at people reacting to the pressure to get married and stay married, to fit themself to a romantic relationship, to exist under rape cultureâto them responding with, 'but in my fantasy, it is about what I want, and it does become something Good in the end.' I don't think you can blanket paint them as conservative reactionaries. We want control over the things that scare us, and what scares us is what society expects and forces on us, and sometimes, that's gonna look like Dark Mafia Forced Marriage Dubcon Book #49 being really popular. even if you're policing someone else's desires to be More Progressive and Correct from your point of view. you still end up policing them.

So we all talk about being in fandoms for things that are charmingly bad, and being able to acknowledge that theyâre charmingly bad. But of course some people are in fandoms for things that are Actually Amazing. There are people out there who write fanfiction for The Best Science Fiction Novel Of The Twentieth Century. Or who draw fanart exclusively of The Best Movie of All Time. And there are even more people who are in fandoms for things that are Actually Pretty Good, which is not quite amazing but is closer to it than to Charmingly Bad.
And sometimes, you have a string of fandoms that are Actually Pretty Good. And the danger of thisâthe very great dangerâis that when you have a string of Actually Pretty Good and even Actually Amazing obsessions, you start to believe that maybe you have taste. Perhaps you are now immune to the indignities of losing it over something mostly bad.
And then it is shattering to discover that no, bad things can still stick a fork in your brain. đ
So I understand why the âtransformative fandom gathers around things that are not good because there being a problem makes people desire to fix itâ model is popular. I even agree that itâs accurate in many if not most cases. However it is not what this post is about. Plenty of people do transformative and creative fandom activities for things that are very, very good. Simplified models do not encompass everything.
And frankly, itâs starting to really get on my nerves when people read âI think this thing is good. I wouldnât change a thing about it and frankly I donât even think there should be more canon added to it, but I am still going to write thousands of words of fic, make a cosplay, and draw fanartâ and then completely misunderstand and respond with âyes I agreeâI like things that are good too. But I never feel the transformative/creative fandom instinct for them because they are too good.â
Some people do not feel it. Other people do. Stop misreading me to avoid having to adjust your mental model of how fandom works.
one of the ways a Canon work can be fandom bait is by missing something that fans want to fix, i.e. "it's bad", but i think this is only one way out of multiple that something can be fandom bait.
compelling worldbuilding (invites interaction with the setting)
interesting gimmick (see: daemons, drift compatibility. subcategory of compelling worldbuilding)
shipping bait (duh)
original character bait (in-universe categories/factions and design elements that make it fun for people to create their own characters)
compelling narrative (invites interaction and tweaks to the storyline: AUs and fixits and so on)
basically anything that invites interaction and recombination. but fandom also has a sort of multiplying effect: the larger the interactive audience of fandom is, the more likely it is to generate ideas and works that draw in more participants. so:
network effect (the larger the established fandom, the more likely it has subfandoms and infrastructure that appeals to niche audiences)
Yes this exactly, thank you bless.
Things that have space to play in are fandom bait, but space to play in does not equal holes.

if your main position is "i don't know how you people can support harm reduction. as for me, i'm for harm abolition. no i don't have a plan. no actually i mostly just bitch at people advocating for harm reduction as a way of making myself look pure" your opinions on political strategy are irrelevant and you yourself are beneath contempt you need to examine your beliefs, your need to feel righteous, your actual impact on the world, and how you can go about making an impact that aligns with your beliefs.
If you really believe harm is bad, and eliminating harm is a worthy goal, you have to start with small steps: eliminate a small harm, not all harms all at once. Reduce a great harm a little, perhaps by helping one individual impacted by that harm, and then another individual, and another... You cannot tackle all harm at once; you must take smaller bites. Set this reality against your need to feel right & correct & pure & perfect. Reducing some harm instead of all harm is not failure! You are not a failure! You may fail now and again, but failing once or twice or ten thousand times doesn't change the fact that you can still try again and succeed! You are not a failure even when you fail to reach your impossible goal of perfection.
You may not be able to complete the work of eliminating harm. But you can do your part to work toward that goal, reducing harm where you can. Your work layered with all the work of everyone who came before you, everyone who works beside you, and everyone who picks up the work when you set it down--all this work layered into making things besmal--that's a goal both possible and worth fighting for.
