I wanted to ask about the sappho asteroid in synastry! Somebody I like has their sappho asteroid in my 7th house along with their Juno asteroid. I was curious what that might mean for both the parties. Also, since I know sappho is an asteroid associated with lesbians, I want to clarify that both the parties involved are indeed women. To be honest, I have never studied this asteroid in synastry or in general. That is my short answer.

However, to give you my thoughts and a longer response, I probably wouldn't derive much significance from most asteroids in synastry anyway. Not unless the asteroids are interacting with other actual points of significance (other planets, in conjunction.... or in exact degrees of angles... for example.) The reason for this is that a lot of asteroids were only recently discovered. Sappho (80) was discovered in 1864 whereas the main seven planets we're so familiar with have been observed for thousands and thousands of years– which also means we have thousands and thousands of years of astrological statistics and observations with these planets. For most of the asteroids commonly talked about in astrology spaces we only have anecdotal observations. It's very hard to say for sure what their significance represents. What we know for certain is most of the asteroids admired by the astrology community orbit between Mars and Jupiter, and there are a lot of them! There's anywhere between 700,000 to 1 million asteroids in the main belt. Over 200 of them are 100 km or more in diameter. Sometimes I wonder if collectively the asteroid belt itself carries significance rather than just an asteroid or two, almost like an additional planet between Mars and Jupiter. Additionally, we know that many of the "significant" asteroids in astrology were discovered in the early 19th century. If we want to discover the true meaning of these asteroids, I would wonder what the significance of this period of time would be; I would search here first. Also, the significance of the astronomers who discovered these asteroids... these people who essentially birthed their existence to our consciousness in a way. Many of these astronomers were itching to find a new planet and worked tirelessly in a time where we didn't have super telescopes discovering new asteroids every week. And many of these astronomers named the asteroids after Greek and Roman Goddesses; appointing or crowning their discovery with beautiful, powerful names. I think the obsession and mystique parallel's to the astrology community. We want to derive uniqueness, beauty, power, and discovery from the asteroid placements in our chart. This is okay, I think its signifies inner self discovery and connection. I don't think it equates to fate though. So when it comes to synastry, the personal planets are your best friends for figuring out how you mesh with your crush. You will find more significance in how the Moon and Venus interacts with each other's charts more than any asteroid could. If you feel like you've read all you can on personal planets, I would actually reccommend looking into Arabic Parts (like Part of Fortune or Pars Fortuna) before asteroids. Like if you're interested in fate and auspicious points in the chart, Arabic Parts is basically all about the mathematic relationship between planets (adding or subtracting the distance between points or planets in your chart to create a specific point). It's a bit advanced to interpret, even for me, but it's very interesting.

So I can see you’ve already taken a look at my “Love Transits” post which is a good place to start for this kind of info.

I think it’s best to take a simplistic approach. Like having a concentration of planets moving through the 5th house may be as simple as your consciousness focusing on this area of life (love, dating, art, pleasure, etc). Especially with fast moving planets like Venus and Mercury, these two won’t be in this house for long. The mind and the heart has desire on the brain, that’s all.

I don’t believe Neptune ever has much pull in one’s personal life, but you may want to be weary of your expectations around relationships. I might call Neptune transiting the 5th and Uranus transiting the 7th an orange flag for being unrealistic and hasty… or as you might call it “delulu”…

I recommend you try dating, especially dating apps since that’s the new norm for dating. Meet lots of people, don’t fall in love too quickly. The most unassuming person might surprise you.

So essentially what you're asking is what is more important, an angle or the sun's zenith? The truth is, both are equally "important" and play a role in interpretation. There's a really interesting article here talking about different house systems and defining the Midheaven. And to pull a quote from this article talking about why we associate this exact 'point' in the chart outside of angles; "The idea behind this precision is that the sky is not something static, but is in permanent motion. As a result, all celestial bodies reach a certain point in their diurnal arc where they attain the highest possible altitude according to their declination. Being the Midheaven, in any of the possible definitions, the place where the stars reach their maximum elevation, it is quite obvious that the ideas associated with the 10th house such as advancement, promotion, profession, vocation, reputation and public image, derive of said elevated condition in the upper part of the celestial vault."

Regarding the angles, to put it very simply the nature and theme of astrology is all about balance and ebb and flow. This is why I use the equal house system for readings and why many others praise the whole sign system. It's best to imagine the birth chart as a colour wheel where the colours blend into each other, they have a direct relationship with each other. The houses are simply an overlay that we use as a guide for interpreting the meaning of a celestial body's position within this painting. The angles are the most definitive overlay because they happen to be the most polarizing. What you'll notice is that your Midheaven, despite being in the 7th house, is still above the horizon and therefore still has this "relationship" with the most southern (Public, top of the chart) half of the birth chart.

Any advice on finding someone who could give a quality birth chart reading?

I'm a novice in the topic and am skeptical especially when there are AI generated readings online ( are these legit? ) which is almost a topic in itself.

You know I’ve never even thought of that until you mentioned it. It would be so easy to scam people these days with readings. The only person I’ve ever had do a chart reading for myself was somebody who was briefly my mentor when I was a teenager. She obviously had 30-40+ years of experience and knowledge, much of that knowledge accumulated before the internet was so heavily utilized.

If it were me, I would first try to determine if I could get a reading done by someone locally. Then I would do some research into the person’s relationship with astrology (e.g. is chart readings their primary source of income? What kind of readings do they do? What are others saying about this person? Have they published their work anywhere? Who do they source info from? Who do they recommend? And so on). If their approach kind of reads as fortune telling, that’s a bit of a red flag to me also.

When it comes to online readings, I think a lot of the same questions apply. I think you need to be a bit more careful though because I think both influencers and regular people can market themselves in a very attractive and relatable way.

Chiron’s realm of expression in one’s psyche can often be intuition or higher knowledge (in a specific area of life). This is especially true when we interpret Chiron’s interactions with other planets. In positive contacts with other planets, Chiron can represent wise, grounded energies as well as expertise. Chiron challenges set ideas and views in aspecting planets. In negative contacts, there can be debilitating self-doubt, instability, and fear of the unknown.

The above writing was in part of a Chiron post I had planned to write and publish over two years ago and I never found the time to finish it. I wanted to post something about it now, but something different from what the original post intended to be. I really wanted to understand Chiron in the birthchart, and I mean REALLY understand.

If there’s one thing I love about astrology, it’s that you can learn a lot through comparing and contracting expression. Just like tuning an instrument by ear, you can compare one note to the other to understand where you are in the scale. You can compare Venus and Mars and find differing qualities; or gather information from aspects in harmony versus dis-harmony. This is what I was trying to do with Chiron.

I was wondering if you have ever heard about there being esoteric consequences for divining ones fate through astrology? It's known that religion forbids such practice but is there anything else outside that context ?

This ask has been sitting in my inbox for months because I didn’t know how I wanted to approach it. I do think it’s an interesting topic and I do hold strong spiritual opinions on it. However, the more I think about it, a layman, logical approach is more helpful than saying something like “wishing ill on others puts karma on you threefold!” (If this is in line with what you mean by “consequences”)

I think many religions forbade practicing things like astrology simply because most people don’t know how to use spiritual tools for what they were intended for (I guess I don’t mean simply, this is the “esoteric” reason. Historically shamans, priests, and religious leaders covet and hide practices like these because they were exclusively used for strengthening their relationship with God/religion. It’s control too I guess). Generally divining one’s fate might be seen as devilish because it doesn’t really fall in line with being a virtuous person, in a lot of ways it’s seen as selfish.

The reality is, for many types of ‘fate’ we might determine for ourselves, we increase the probability of that fate by believing in it. This is, of course, not for everything, I don’t think an extremely low probability event can turn into a higher probability just by believing it’s fate. For certain things though, this is true. When we search for destiny, we recognize it’s opportunities whereas otherwise we wouldn’t have if we didn’t determine that fate. In a lot of ways, this is beneficial. It inspires a future for ourselves. On the other hand, if we determine a negative fate about ourselves, it could alter our behaviours in a way that shoots ourselves in the foot. For example, if someone determines a fate of loneliness, they might become more hyper vigilant in relationships, constantly questioning their partners and friends loyalty, asking when they’re going to abandoned, etc. The consequence being that their overcompensating behaviour fulfills the prophecy and people want to get away from their anxious attachment.

I wouldn’t consider this lineup to be a financial windfall in a lottery sense. If it is indicative of finances, it will be by means of inheritance.

Both Pluto and Part of Fortune have very limited data in their meaning I’d say, but taking note from other astrologer’s observations we know that Pluto may be destructive yet transformative, and we know that Part of Fortune represents a very physical essence (because its calculation is based on one’s big three, it must have something to do with the physical body and a person’s being). Additionally, in a lot of ways the 2nd house represents the physical body, it’s an extension of the ascendant… while the ascendant is very much indicative of one’s physical appearance, expression, and condition, it’s like that in a spiritual-soul-essence kind of way… Whereas the 2nd house is entirely material… material body, physical conditions, real possessions, etc.
