Fellow wyrmies and vampire aficionados!
I give you Vampyr! (PS4/XO/PC).
Youโve probably never heard of this game, and if you didnโt - itโs okay. It hasnโt been heavily advertised, as the developers proclaim it a AA game. Made with a decent budget, but focused on dedicated fans that have been following development since day one.
Hereโs a few things about the game that might interest you!
- The game takes place in 1918 semi-open world London during the Spanish flu epidemic.
- Itโs a 3rd person RPG game.
- There is a skill tree and weapon enhancement tree.
- You play as Dr. Jonathan Reid, who has recently been turned into a vampire.
- Dr. Reid is what is called an โEkonโ vampire, which is your typical vampire seen in most movies. Ekons consider themselves the true vampire compared to the other subspecies. There are other types such as ghouls and werewolf-type vampires.
- Vampire hunters are an enemy in the game.
- So are vampires that have chosen to hunt other vampires.
- Your choices define the outcome of the game. There are dialogue options (think Mass Effect dialogue tree) that will let you decide whether you want to be a ruthless vampire, or a good doctor thatโs trying to cure the people of London.
- You can play this game without killing a single innocent person. However, itโll be really hard for you to level up, making bosses difficult to defeat.
- You can turn others into vampires.
- You can feed on rats, though they provide very little blood to fill your skill tree.
- Blood will become harder to resist as you progress through the game if you refuse to feed on humans.
- Combat is similar to Dark Souls and Bloodborne, but not as defined. The gameโs primary focus is the story.
- You will have a melee and ranged weapon. In addition, you will have many vampire abilities that will increase in strength as you feed, such as blood spears.
- There are four different endings, depending on your choices throughout the game.
- Choices are final, and each have consequences in certain areas of London.ย This is set by giving players only one save slot so they donโt go back and change their choices if they changed their mind. Really think it through before you decide.
- If you kill an NPC and drink their blood, you will hear their final thought (some early players described this as very creepy).
- Every NPC is unique with a name and personality. No two NPCโs have the same face.
- You will be able to tell if people are sick or not with your vampire senses.
