its a national holiday
So I can’t really remember if anyone’s ever gotten mad at me for being a robert cyger chairman fan but for some reason my brain and body is fully convinced and reacting to it as if it has happened so I’m going to assume it happened but I realized i’ve been liking him for 6 years and im not gonna even let a newgen pay me to stop liking him let alone tell me how to Like Him Right. IVE BEEN ON THIS FOR TOO LONG. GO REPLENISH SOMEONE ELSES SOUL. mMINE HAS BEEN LOST FOR YEARS.
Hi I am also replying here because I remembered I have a blog for my delusional ramblings about media. Anyway re: this? Being a Robert Cyger fan is kind of like playing the worlds longest game because it usually does not pay off like at all half the time BUT. Oh man when they make a post about him or talk about him in game. Never stop gambling
There’s a reason Sarah is the way she is
I’ve recently realised something that changes my perspective on her.
Y’all ever think about how weird it is for a mother to make her youngest kid watch over her oldest kid?
Like, Sarah is being told to make Ed clean his room, watch him practice violin and even watch him while he’s grounded. She sent him food too.
Ed even says “the school will tell Sarah” and not “the school will tell mom” (that can just be what Ed thinks tho) and while mentioning this scene, it’s worth note Sarah never mentions their dad)
The more I think about it, the more it feels like Sarah is being pushed into a guardian roll at a super young age. It can explain her feeling justified in her controlling Ed but also her short temper, even though Sarah doesn’t have to be responsible for Ed’s actions, (Ed is blamed for his own AND Sarah’s actions) she is still almost having to parent Ed, which can be stressful. Not to mention the frustration of wanting to play but you have to go find your brother just to tell him to pack up or smth…
It’s likely mum is making Sarah take care of Ed because she doesn’t want to. (She’s always angry when someone asks her where Ed is too)
Considering Sarah definitely doesn’t get in trouble for Ed’s actions, what would be motivating her to watch Ed so throughly?
Maybe she does care about him but this is how she thinks love is shown… Or she likes bossing Ed around to get a sense of control…
Ed did babysit Sarah ONCE. That could have been a one off moment in universe, Eddy and Edd were kinda surprised, or even Ed was only superficially in charge and Sarah was really watching Ed.
(The realistic reason Sarah has to deliver all of Mums commands is probably just a write around the “no parents” rule)
I got another potential reason
It could even be as simple as her anger towards Ed comes from the fear that their mum might start treating her the same way as Ed if she isn’t a perfect daughter..
All of this is so true (LOVE all ur posts btw as someone who grew up w eene and feverishly watched every episode and the entire big picture show marathon as it aired live decades ago). I think you can also make the argument that it, partially, stems from misogyny based parentification, something that a lot of only daughters go through even if they aren't the eldest sibling. Oddly accurate for a cartoon of this time, but probably due to the fact Ed Edd n Eddy is a show that wasn't holding back it's punches.
I'm fucking inconsolable

Dogman book tierlist feat. the movie I made w my pal val tonight
Dogman movie was so cute, really enjoyed it! Big Jim Begins is the worst book in the series by far and nothing even comes close to it
dogman is the greatest thing since sliced bread ive decided. genuinely obsessed w how its written, petey you will ALWAYS be famous to me
a huge portion of this fandom refuses to analyze arcane as a political commentary and it's why there are so many awful takes about the show. the showrunners take inspiration from real-life politics, police brutality and wealth inequality are major themes in the show, and the class divide between the two cities widely shapes who the characters are in the show. ignoring all this reeks of anti-intellectualism and an unwillingness to criticize the media you watch. there is a reason why viewers have a strong reaction to caitlyn using chemical warfare against zaunites (a war crime under international law), the generic "cycle of violence" narrative for the piltover-zaun conflict, zaunites teaming up with piltover to stop noxus without getting a proper apology for the military occupation they endured. what happens to zaunites in the show isn't a mere thought experiment to many viewers and are reflective of the real-life experiences marginalized groups go through. in over a year alone, we've seen a group of people be bombed, gassed, and starved in the name of colonialism with the support of the most powerful countries in the world, which makes the show's poor handling of the political themes they introduce even more irritating.
me when i see people assign who is the mom, dad, kids and uncles/aunts to a group of friends/found family and entirely ignoring all the fucking complexities of their relationships with each other to give them the same exact shallow surface traits for nuclear family shit. and then that cold ass take on the characters becomes the popular one which means its illegal to even think about these friends having any sort of interesting dynamic bc the majority of people now perceive them as actual blood related family bc theyve been reduced to nothing but polly pocket dolls

if i was gromit and i watched this fuckass gnome destroy my garden i would kill wallace with my bare fucking hands
yeah ok
im taking media away from some of u guys until you can pass a 6th grade literary analysis test
you guys think im fucking joking but im not. i cannot deal with another second of people complaining about stories "glorifying" their subject matter just because no one turned to the camera and said, "hey guys, just so you know, this thing is Bad and Not Good, and this story is about Why it is Bad and Not Good."
i say this with love in my heart. But i genuinely do believe some of you on this horrid webbedsite are so used to only consuming media that explicitly tells you what you are supposed to take away from it (i.e. children's media) that youve lost the ability to examine media beyond a surface level
this is not to say that children's media is bad. or that adults can't enjoy it. i'm an adult, i love cartoons, and i probably always will. but if all you are consuming is tv shows made to teach children about kindness, you are going to rot your brain
If ur annoying on this post you will owe me 300USD
Discussion questions:
1) When OP says "I'm taking media away from some of you guys until you can pass a 6th grade literary analysis test," this is an example of a rhetorical device. Which rhetorical device is an example of? Is it effective? Why or why not?
2) Why might OP only mention the website he is posting on? Does this mean he thinks every other website is without these issues, or is it in order to make it relevant to the viewers?

For a long time I wondered if the final TF2 comic would ever come out. For a longer time I wondered if I wanted it to. They built it up so much, hyped the Administrator's big plan so high, and then waited so long, could they possibly ever meet expectations?
I don't know if what they did was what they originally planned, or if there even was a plan, but I think they knocked it out of the park. It feels... right.
And it cemented the Administrator as one of the most terrifying villains in history. But before I discuss that, SPOILERS:

hey so if you go on the wayback machine to the lazytown website around 2003, you can see the original character backstories and descriptions for the characters of lazytown, some that stuck and some that didn't, like this which is definitely news to me (and clearly didnt stick around):
to think bessie was meant to be his mother is such a wild concept to me
finished jentry chau last night and i have a lot of thoughts. SPOILERS AHEAD.
the good (broad strokes because there's so much to like in general!):
production quality is off the charts: fantastic animation, beautiful fight scenes, lovely character and world design, music perfectly complements the whole vibe. great style as well!
satisfying narrative arc: no cliffhangers, we get an A to B story line with character growth and progress. jentry ends the series as emotionally more mature than she starts.
interesting characters and engaging exchange and dialogue between them that mostly felt believable and realistic for teens this day and age.
the bad (my gripe in a nutshell):
the showrunners' decided to favor making the show work to what they'd prefer over cohesive character choices. (like they were trying to manipulate jentry's character around hitting plot points, instead of vice versa.)
jentry's forgiveness isn't consistent for her character.
the showrunners decided that the narrative would be more dramatic when/if she didn't forgive others.
gugu lied to her all her life about SO many things. we're given her reasoning, which we're meant to understand and relate to (she didn't want jentry to hate her/her parents), and because jentry loves gugu, she forgives her. i do not forgive gugu! she lied to jentry for 16 years about EVERYTHING.
this ties into how moonie is still alive as well. gugu knew! she could've EASILY have tracked her down. so she CHOSE to never try and reunite them. and MOONIE knew she was jentry's mother. how could you do that to your daughter? and jentry forgives moonie because she loves the POTENTIAL of her mother. what the fuck! i do not forgive moonie! she CHOSE not to be part of her life.
then we come to the only other person who begged for forgiveness for their secrets hurting her.
kit. he lied about who he was and his intentions. however, out of the him, gugu, and moonie, kit is the only one who does not intentionally obscure jentry's ability to figure out his secret, as in jentry is not forced to act for him to confess his truth. with gugu's secrets, she had to work to uncover them, and with moonie, jentry had to work to find her.
he is the only one who comes clean to her after putting his life in danger to save hers, and there's no way he doesn't know how fragile his painted skin is. he KNOWINGLY went to save her from the fire and risked his identity being blown because she was that important to him. (i remind you his death words started with "everything i did was for me." LIKE SAVING HER THEN??? THAT WAS FOR YOU???)
and how does jentry react? poorly, yes, because she hates lies (because of gugu).
but even after that, kit is never actually forgiven. in fact, jentry uses him, and then abandons him when she achieves her goal. it felt so drastically out of whack for her character that i wondered what was happening. then he is ostracized by her, and she rejects even his friendship and acts cold to him. she cuts him off.
it really doesn't make sense for her to not even want to be his friend. she bonded with him during the doppelganger experience. they WERE friends then. then she says she wants to be normal and pursues michael even when he admits to her HE isn't normal. so that's not it either.
only the narrative is what forces her not to forgive him because the showrunners need to hit the plot points of him betraying her and him needing to sacrifice himself later. (which i would argue his sacrifice really doesn't make sense at all. if you watch that scene when kit dies in her place, WHY would he even pretend to be her? if jentry had just worn the robes instead, she would've been able to defend herself as quickly she donned them as is shown after kit-jentry is attacked. it was a needless sacrifice!)
gugu is forgiven in this same episode for her lies. why can jentry forgive gugu and not kit (prior to the betrayal)? it just doesn't fit for her character.
jentry then goes on to immediately forgive moonie for never getting into contact with her. moonie ALSO lied to her her entire life. but somehow this is forgiveable now because it works with the narrative and the plot points.
anyway. that's my biggest gripe with the show.
instead of building the narrative around jentry's character, the show built a narrative and manipulated jentry's character to make it work.
also...
the mogai-human-form design was weirdly sexist?
when possessing mr. cheng, the mogai-cheng form is ugly and malformed and disproportionate. he is not conventionally appealing or attractive. he is not the same size or shape as cheng appeared. he is wearing clothes.
when posessing jentry, the mogai-jentry form is curvaceous and slim and appealing to look at. this form is conventionally attractive. she is the same size and shape as jentry appeared. she is not wearing clothes.
all of these are choices the showrunners made. they could've made mogai-jentry much more unappealing, but they didn't. for some reason, keeping her "attractive/cool" was the choice over what the design could mean. they did make her look dangerous, i guess?
