better than backstage
Keegan was officially the biggest cockblock in the world.
Is that what this was classified as? Cockblocking? Spencer didnât know the female equivalent, and for kissing, but for lack of a better word: he was. Caleb had been so close to kissing her. He shivered underneath her touch and his eyes were shining and heâd even said he wanted to; fingers tangled in the back of her hair as he leaned in and her eyes closed and she could just about feel his breath on her lips when someone other than the man in front of her called out her name, frantically. Spencerâs eyes had snapped open immediately, recognizing the owner and tone of the voice echoing throughout the night, and knowing it couldnât be good. That didnât stop her from internally wincing and squeezing her eyes shut, though; her disappointment evident in the sag of her shoulders. God damn it, Keegan. Could his timing be any worse?
No, not his timing. Her parentsâ timing. The vibrating sheâd felt and painstakingly assumed to be the beating of her heart was now most definitely the faint vibration of her phone against the side of her bag, and she didnât have to glance at it to know who it was. Keegan was holding onto his own tight enough to show that he rather throw it than answer. Thereâs no way it was anyone other than their parents, and they were fucked.
âShit.â She gasped, backing away from Caleb with wide, apologetic eyes. âIâm sorry, IâŚI have to go. IâŚfuck, Iâm sorry. YouâŚcall me, okay?â She plastered a fake, tentative smile on her lips; leaning in for a rushed peck on his cheek before scurrying to accept Keeganâs outstretched hand. Turning as they began to run away, Spencer dared one last look into Calebâs eyes, despite at a difference. âIt was nice to meet you, Caleb.â She called, offering one last smile before her inevitable doom. Her parents were going to kill her.
Caleb hadnât really thought about not kissing Spencer this entire night. There hadnât really been an alternate option. But now that this was happening, he knew that it would be best to not resolve the situation. Spencer obviously had her heart set on fooling around tonight, leaving early, and wanting nothing more than to leave a boy wanting more. Thatâs exactly what she was doing. When her words started to come through frantically, Caleb just shook his head.
âItâs okay, yeah, of course. Totally call you.â Unwillingly, Caleb let go of her hand before watching her leave with her friend. Watching her leave was one of the things that he enjoyed most-- he wasnât going to lie. âIt was nice to meet you, too.â He yelled back out. He leaned against the rail as he pushed himself away and started walking back to the bar, holding the glass in his hand.
Where on earth had that girl come from?
And... thinking about it before he walked back in the bar-- shit. He didnât even get the girls number. Rushing back out, he looked around the parking lot noticing that the girl was no longer in sight. There had been so much hope and optimism for the night, and that all was crushed by knowing that he would never see her again.Â
Spencer was gone.
