It was subtle, but Jaxon had a trained eye for Caleb's micro-expressions. The sudden tension in the man's posture and the way his eyes widened made it clear he hadn't expected Jax to mention Naz, let alone admit to speaking to her. "Why's that? Somethin' came up?"Jax asked. She had seemed tired, and honestly, if her boyfriend had taken off as soon as they arrived, Reed didn't blame her for wandering off. Except Caleb seemed concerned. "I like her. You still worried about the pack not feeling the same way?"
"I'm glad that you do. She's an amazing person," Caleb returned with a smile, even if it wavered for a moment when Jax brought up the pack and their feelings.
"Well, you know what our pack is like. Our traditions." They were almost treated like a royal family in Vievecor City where one family ruled the pack and had expectations laid upon their shoulders since birth. "I..." Could he say this out loud? To Jax? Someone who was not in the pack anymore? But he still trusted Jax, despite their shortcomings. "I don't know if they will ever except that we're seeing each other..."
"Barge in as if it's your right, and I'll call you whatever I wish, pup. Now why don't you run along if you're so worried about Matthew and his antics tonight. If you're lucky, perhaps he'll tolerate your nosiness more than I."
Caleb knew that he had severely misstepped with the way Leon was insulting him, but he was also not going to let that stop him from doing what he needed to, something that he did not need to voice to the vampire.
"Yeah. I'll see you around, Leon," he said and back out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

The wolf whistle was also what took Caleb out of the moment and his cheeks flushed just as red as Naz's, if not more, as he turned away from their onlookers to hide Naz from them as well. It was not often that he got carried away like that, but it had felt nice to indulge in the moment.
"Uh, what?" Caleb made a noise at Naz's words, his mind finally catching up to what she was suggesting now that the embarrassment had petered out. The suggestion was able to turn him even more red, if that were possible.
"Well, yeah, sure. We can do that..." he said as he looked down at where she had adorably burrowed herself inside his coat.
Naz had gotten a little carried away with the kiss but she was still disappointed that it ended so quickly. As they turned, she buried herself inside his coat, wrapping her arms around his waist. It didn't take long for their audience to get bored and leave them along but she enjoyed the chance to admire the red flush to his cheeks, wondering if he would ever feel stop blushing when it came to intimacy.
Naz was certain he was going to say no or make up an excuse so she was pleasantly surprised when he agreed. "Good," she murmured, reaching up to kiss his cheek. "We can celebrate when you win your game. Maybe I can find some more treats at the stalls."
Caleb looked down at Naz as she was snuggled inside his coat and he felt a warmth bloom in his chest thinking that he would do anything for this woman.
"That sounds like an excellent plan." And it did not matter if he won the game or not when he could spend time with Naz after.
Caleb's face turned red so fast that she thought she might faint from the tame description. The reaction was so sudden and extreme that the actress took a step back in confusion. Was the thought of her naked so bad that he was disgusted? She had never had someone react to her like this, most men liked thinking about her naked. Some women too. It was hard not to feel offended but maybe he just wasn't into women, or anyone at all. "Is that so bad? You really know how to make a girl feel good about herself," she muttered.
She had thought that Caleb was different but now she didn't know what to think about him at all. "Well... I can't say this conversation has really given me a boost of confidence."
"It's not. It's not bad," Caleb said hastily when he realised his mistake. "It's not on me to tell you what you want to do with your body, even if it's naked billboards. I just..." he sighed. "Those are things that I do not often think about. If at all... I promise you, I would be the last person judging you or telling you what you want to do or where you want to work."
Caleb felt like he had stuck his foot in his mouth and he was trying to rectify the situation. It did not do well to make actresses uncomfortable, or anyone, for that matter. "I'm sorry, Naz. I had no intention of insulting you."

“Hm. Thanks.” Carmen replied uncertainly. She didn’t think her parents had done anything aside from damage control for their own personal gain, but right now they were serving a purpose.

She began to turn away, back to her trolley loaded full of books, before she quickly turned back. “Oh. Next time you should try the white hot chocolate. Eiji wanted to ask why the leader of a pack cared about how he was doing, when his own father had resorted to minimal visits and his mother was nowhere to be found, but he resigned himself in fear of sounded as bitter— or maybe as vulnerable— as he felt. Caleb was likely just following through with small-talk anyway. “I’m fine. Nothing like a dark, confined space to clear the mind.” He replied instead.
His fingers flexed tensely where they’d been holding the edge of the mattress before relaxing again. “Have they? I wouldn’t know. Again, dark and confined space.” He smiled humourlessly.
"I can bring you books if you'd like. Just give me some titles you're interested in. Or perhaps you'd trust me with providing you with a few books?" Caleb offered. While Eiji was being incarcerated for a reason, that did not mean that Caleb could not sympathise with someone being locked up.
"I suppose I wanted to ask you for whatever you might know about them before you were arrested. Any information at all. They've been attacking more of us and we cannot predict where they'll strike."
“ONLY BECAUSE YOU'RE ASKING SO NICELY,” Leila replied, amusement threading through her voice.
She accepted his phone long enough to enter her number before passing it back. “Besides,” she added, “someone has to make sure you don’t get lost in the greenhouses again.”
"Thank you. You're much too kind," Caleb said as he took his phone back from Liadan to send her a quick text. "Would it be alright if I brought someone with me? It would just be the two of us."
Good, it seemed like Caleb didn't notice anything amiss. "I'll get out of your way." He stood and gave Celeb a loose hug before taking a step towards the door. In his mind, he started mapping out a somewhat roundabout route back to the tower from Caleb's house so he would have some time to himself to think. "Good luck with the pack meeting. Hopefully it goes smoothly."

The blood drive had been running since morning, and although Henry's scheduled shift had technically ended half an hour earlier, there were still more people than hands. He didn't particularly mind.
He'd given up his chair to another medic a little while earlier, rolling his shoulders as he stripped off a pair of gloves and dropped them into the clinical waste bin. The donation area remained busy enough that he couldn't quite bring himself to leave, so he settled for restocking supplies, carrying boxes, and stepping in wherever another pair of hands was needed.
Returning with another tray of juice and cookies, Henry noticed someone lingering near the registration desk. "First time?" he asked. "Or are you still deciding whether to bolt?"
"Ah, no..." Caleb waved a hand. He could not because he was very much not human. What drew him to this blood drive at the edge of the Shipyard district was the smell of another werewolf and he followed his nose to the blood drive to find that the scent belonged to a wolf he had not met before.
"I'm not here to donate blood. I cannot, uh, I mean medically," he explained, hoping the other wolf would catch his own scent and understand why. Was Caleb making it awkward now? Crap.
Sent after the wine festival party at the Rubicund is over and party guests are leaving.
[text from Caleb] I'm sorry for disappearing on you the whole evening. I'm on the first floor. Near the ferris wheel. Where are you?
[ text: to Caleb ]: I went home an hour ago so I'm in bed.
[ text: to Caleb ]: I suggest you go home and do the same.

"Caleb, hey." Was it a surprise to see the alpha in an event like this? No. Jaxon figured it was part of protocol, to make sure nothing too unlawful happened. But it was obvious by the subtle shift in his features, that he had not exactly heard him coming. The loud music, the crowd and the heavy smell of blood and wine would have thrown anyone off, right? At least that's the excuse he gave himself.
Turning his wrist inward to hide the fresh puncture wounds from Caleb's sharp gaze, the beta offered him a shrug. "As much as one can enjoy themselves in a room full of vampires, I guess." he scoffed, "How about you? I talked to Naz earlier. It seemed like she was lookin' for you."
"Hmm..." Caleb hummed a small smile because he was just as uncomfortable as Jax at one of these parties that he always had to attend to put up appearances.
"Oh," his eyes widened slightly. As far as Caleb knew, Jax and Naz had not properly met since they got together and despite Jax not being part of the pack anymore, Caleb could not help a slight nervousness from welling up within him as if he were anxious about what Jax might think or say about her. About them.
"Yes. We lost each other earlier in the night." And Caleb had proceeded to get distracted by making sure no humans who were not supposed to be in the Rubicund were actually in the Rubicund. "Why, uh, did you start talking to her?"

Even though he wasn't technically employed by Rosu, as a member of the clan Chris had volunteered to take one of the early shifts keeping an eye out for any non vampires who needed help. So far things had been fairly calm and all he'd had to do was shoulder check a couple people who weren't taking no for a final answer before he kept moving through the crowds on the dance floor. Otherwise, people seemed to be afraid of artemis' retaliation if someone was fed on without their consent.
He'd handed off his duties to someone else retreated to one of the balconies with his own drink, just watching the dancers and swaying gently to the music. At this distance it all turned into hypnotic waves unless he looked up and across at the acrobats. He was broken out of a half trance when someone else joined him at the railing. "Hey. Everything good?"
"Hey, Chris," Caleb said to the blonde vampire in greeting. "I'm good." Or as good as he could be. It was not easy being on constant alert when it came to the party-crashing humans and he had lost Naz sometime during the night. His girlfriend was extremely understanding of his needs, but he was sure that she had her limits too. It was just so difficult for him to relax at these vampire parties, this one seeming to be rife with illegal activities.
"Are you, uh, enjoying the party?" He had come out here to take a breather too and it was nice to see a familiar face.
The Rubicund wasn't exactly Jaxon Reed's scene. It was loud, crawling with leeches and substances he did not care much for in his older age. And yet, there he fucking was, secluded to one of the faraway corners of the dance floor. His thinking was that he should at least check things out, see if he spotted any familiar faces and maybe..just maybe, have a drink or two.
"..or three." he scoffed, finishing that thought to himself as he stared at the puncture wounds in his inner wrist. A mistake. Not an awful one but..a mistake nonetheless. He shouldn't have let that vampire taste it, but to hell with it. Clenching and unclenching his fist, Reed soon overheard steps close by, and let out another huff. "What?"

Caleb spotted Jax away from the dance floor. They had something of a truce between them now and it did not hurt to say hello to the lone wolf.
"Hello, Jax," he greeted, his keen eyes not missing the puncture wounds on Jax's inner wrist even if he decided not to pry. They lingered there for a moment before looking up at the other wolf's face. What Jax wanted to do at this party was not his concern. "Enjoying the party?"

"I'm sorry? Last I checked this was a vampire hosted event. Nobody asked you dogs to do anything other than volunteer to be a meal, so perhaps you should learn some manners before you start barging into rooms you weren't invited into. If any human trespasses in my space, I am more than capable of handling the issue, as pretty much anyone here is." He paused a moment before smirking and thinking of Matthew Alexander before adding, "Well.. As most are. Perhaps you'd be better off pestering the demon's council representative tonight if your concern is genuine."
"Can you not use such a derogatory term on me," Caleb responded with a sigh, noting Leon's clear distaste and annoyance. His eyes scanned the room anyway, making sure that everyone in there looked proper, which he was sure would piss Leon off even more.
Those eyes moved back to Leon when he mentioned the demon elder. "What? What is he up to?" The vampire's words were vague enough to make it sound like Matthew was the one causing trouble and that would not do. "I know he doesn't like them very much at the moment, but surely he'd know not to try anything with those humans."
Leon glanced up from where he sat in the private room, several other vampires and a few familiars relaxing and minding their own business as the syndicate head noticed a new presence join them.
“Ah,” he greeted with a devilish grin, making eye contact with the individual. “And to what do I owe this pleasure? Surely you’re not intruding just to say hello.”
Caleb had gotten word that humans were sneaking in to Rubicund, humans who were not part of the supernatural community, and he was trying to make sure that they were apprehended and sent on their way. Having humans be witness to a vampire-led party was sure to spell trouble.
He threw open the door to one of the private rooms, half praying there wouldn't be anyone inside, only to be greeted by Leon Blachedone and his posse. When did Blachedone get back to Vievecor City? This vampire tended to unnerve him, but Caleb had a mission that evening, so he pushed that sentiment aside. "There haven't been any human party crashers in your room, have there?"
