throughout history, non-catholics who have opposed catholics have always been so uncomfortable with nuns and sought to eliminate the idea. lutheranism...french revolution...english reformation...only catholics can comprehend that women can be something other than wives and mothers and this isn’t unnatural and is in fact holy and understandable.

Satan in particular hates contemplative nuns because of how important they are to The Church, even today all over the world women are being discouraged from entering religious life and their orders are persecuted from both within and without, because satan has learned over the centuries that you can't seriously wound The Church without taking out the contemplative nuns first -they're that important- but of course you can't just kill them, martyrs are too powerful, and that definitely didn't work during the reign of terror, so what would he do instead? Destroy their orders, attack their means of living, vilify and degrade religious life, and dissuade women from ever joining in the first place.
