letâs all come to a general consensus that we acknowledge that not all readers are white. so when youâre writing degradation kinks, letâs be mindful of the words we use. cause as a black reader as soon as i see something out of pocket iâm not reading it anymore. it could be the best literary work known to man and i would not read it, because you lack the property of social awareness. poc and black people exist in these spaces, do not act as if your kind is the only kind to read fanfic. thank you!
itâs such a nasty feeling when youâre enjoying a fic and then something like that hits you in the face with the force of a train. i donât care how accurate youâre trying to be⌠for example: why do you have suguru calling the reader a monkey? donât forget that this is a literal slur. why do you have âmaster/slave playâ tagged as âdegradationâ? fics are indulgent pieces of fandom and i believe that people can write whatever makes them happy regardless, but TAG YOUR FICS APPROPRIATELY. if you have elements in your pieces that blatantly exclude black or poc readers with skin indicators, hair textures, or dialogue that can potentially be offensive if spoken toward black/poc, etc. you should be tagging it as ânon-poc readerâ. i see so many people complaining about black-coded readers yet writers always make it obvious in the content warnings that the reader is black in that particular story. i have yet to see an obvious white-coded reader tagged as such lmao.
