NAH WTF IS WRONG WITH WHITE SINNERS FANS

Imma only be reading Sinner fanfics from black people, cos I just saw a remmick fanfic where it's an x reader, but the reader is the daughter of a plantation owner. WTF. This is the straw that broke the camel's back. Between ignoring the black characters of sinners, centring the white ones, unironically making stereotypes of the black characters and misunderstanding the movie entirely, I've just seen so much trifling behaviour from non black sinners fans. This goes without saying, this is obviously not all white white people or non black people.

And for those interested I shall be making a master list of these fanfics. Time to name and shame 😡

while i am all for creativity. and forming your own works of art. i will admit the attention that the white characters vs. black characters in sinners are getting is seemingly disproportionate within fics. despite it being the very beginning of an outpour of fics. to watch a movie that specifically focuses on black culture and come out with ONLY attraction/connection to the white characters seems odd. don’t get me wrong i understand attraction to the “villain”, i frequently am attracted to villainous characters. but stack held some of the same chaotic qualities. the argument that remmick isn’t racist is understandable yes, ryan himself says he isn’t - but to ONLY focus on the white character in a BLACK movie is kind of telling

i honestly believe it will be hard for non-black writers to write for sinners. because in order to do that many would have to incorporate pieces of history they cant quite understand, or connect with. leaving them with the options of making them modern vampires in every fic or ignoring the real life problems by not making their x readers fully accessible for poc (black people even more so). which that’s not new in the world of fics, but is definitely a worry as it pertains to a black period piece.
