I've invented a new holiday.
Well, not really day, more of a holi-week (holy week? Yeah, I see you, etymology of "holiday")
But not really a week, more of a week-ish.
I call it:
"Hibernation"
Specifically the time between the Christmas and New Year's Day. (Well, for me it's between the solstice and new year's, but that's definitly not viable for most people.)
That "liminal time" where everyone is already in a haze? Well, I just basically make it a truly official thing.
The time to couch-lock all week long. The time to indulge in vices and laziness and abandon "should" entirely.
A time of rest, just guilt-free rest in a full rejection of "work ethic" culture. Sleep until you're too bored to lay in bed and then go play computer games until you get yourself a lazy indulgent meal, and just embrace that liminal haze as a time of full body relaxation.
Interestingly, I found myself feeling motivated to do some chores and deep cleaning after the third day, but then I got tired of it and left my foyer a bit of a mess with the clutter that had been shifted aside but not sorted through. Even stranger: The next morning I was organizing that clutter before I went upstairs to my PC, simply because I wanted to. But even then, I didn't finish, and some of that clutter is still there even as Hibernation comes to a close. I can tell it will be quite easy to put back together later when I actually do dedicate myself to working on it with purpose tomorrow.
But even so, even if I didn't get anything productive at all done during Hibernation… It would still be a direly needed time of rest in this fast-paced world that has burned out so many folks.
I'm going to be doing this every year from here on out, I think. A week-ish of indulgent, lazy, "sinful" rest, ending with stepping out of your "cave" to a new year, refreshed.
I invite you all to join me. Let's be lazy and celebrate "Hibernation" together.
