Where did you learn to draw/colour like that??? 😍😍😍 ur so talented
AAAH THANK U that makes me so happy!!
I was in art school for a long time so i was lucky to have a lot of different drawing classes, especially figure drawing from an animator’s perspective. Drawing from life (rather than copying pictures) also helped me level up a lot.
the biggest things that built my drawing skills for people specifically was figure drawing from life (there are classes you can take, but the models are usually nude so you have to be 18 to take them usually). then, taking anatomy classes for artists (though a good figure drawing class will teach this stuff alongside the drawing stuff, though it is pretty separate.)And then the biggest thing that i think helped all this come together as cartoon drawings was learning what’s called the “construction method” of drawing cartoons, where instead of thinking of your drawing as flat shapes, thinking of them as a collection of forms mooshed together. i had an animation class where some assignment were literally learning how to draw spheres, then squashed and stretched spheres, then copying classic animated character drawings like this. There are a few books by Preston Blair (a Disney animator from way long ago) that go into this. here’s an example i found online of how we would deconstruct drawings so that we could construct drawings ourselves.
Studying this helped me kind of mindlessly incorporate this into my drawings of people. I think this is the book that I learned/copied from. it also goes into stuff like the “line of action” for starting off dynamic drawings of characters, which was ground breaking for me. It feels stupid and pointless while you’re learning how to draw perfect spheres and stuff but omg it leveled up my art so much.
here’s an example of a rough animation i did where you can see a lot of my construction, and then here it is cleaned up. you can see how it helped me keep the animation alive!!
My drawings now are actually way sloppier now than they used to be, i think? But when I see my drawings suffering I always go back to this construction stuff.
Here are some examples of older drawings where you can really see some of my construction (first one is from like 5 years ago, when i was getting the hang of it for characters).
i hope this helps! good luck with your own art!!
