I’ll talk about the main character, The Disciple, first! Although its really more of a talk about the visual direction of the game overall. Since we only had a year to make the game(more like 8-9 months, really), we wanted to shoot for a simple, graphic style that still played to my strengths as a concept artist but could also be translated into 3D. It paired up nicely with how many graphic patterns we used in the environment and UI as well.
Also, The Disciple is non-binary. It isn’t really part of the narrative, but it was really important to a lot of the team and to me especially as the character designer.

Made a stylized wood texture in photoshop using a mouse. Already looks way better than the procedural method I was using with lots of masks.
