when people discuss the tendency to erase the transness of historical individuals and they only talk about trans men, it just goes to show how much historical trans women have also been erased. people love to insist that trans women of the past were cis gay men! and those who only discuss historical trans men presumably don't know of any of those women.
sometimes i've seen discussion of the erasure of historical trans men where they place the reception of a variety of men—all born in the 19th century or before—in opposition to... christine jorgensen. who obviously does not make any sense as a point of comparison in that case. and, again, doing this does not support their view that mostly men are erased when apparently they only know of one historical trans woman!
on another, rather unrelated "transmasc erasure" note, it bothers me in a different way when people are upset about the lack of trans male celebrities compared to female ones. whether or not this perception is actually true: why are you mad about women succeeding 🤨

in order to see it this way, you have to view "a transgender person" as "a person whose 'gender' is different from their 'biological sex,'"* which (among other things) treats "biological sex" as immutable / delegitimises medical transition. would you consider a trans woman with an estrogens-dominant endocrine system and a vagina to be cisgender? no... would you consider a trans woman of the future who also has a uterus cisgender? surely not...
*the reason why you have to see things that way in order to say the statement in the original post is that, well, orlando is obviously a different gender from her assigned gender. & there's a legal battle about her gender going on in the background for a good deal of the book.

how many people on this website like actually absorb the fact that race is a social construct? that race is indeed assigned at birth and reinforced socially through an entire lifetime? that race is fluid and racial privilege is granted and taken away arbitrarily based on what white supremacist power structures benefit from the most? that racialization is relative and changes over time and space? that there is no genetic evidence that race is biological, that it’s a farce in the same way the idea of biological sex is?
