lol I was a little to early to tumblr to see anyone discussing their theories about this chapter lolol so ofc I’ll put in my two sense

I will start by saying this is more interesting than last years waves of love which was a lot more focused on fan service (though this one is still following the same fan service beats as last time), this time around the concept of a “rogue” fits in line with the long standing “traitor” narrative that has yet to be answered. With that tied up in an actual mystery yttd/dr style game show it creates an interesting story unlike the nothing burger mystery from last year,,, though that one was still fun in its own way it just didn’t answer anything really (like always tbh)

Back to the traitor thing, I think what only furthers this tie in to a traitor is the characters chosen, mainly in regards to Haku, Taiga, Elias and Sho on the down low with the pin points being on Haku and Elias ofc since they are the most common “traitors” in fan discussion. (Taiga bcs he’s the one who introduced us & Sho because his brother is Hyde so he probably knows more than he’s letting on yk?)

Im not sure who the rogue is, or if there even is a rogue or true suitor in all honesty. That moment where they all had some secret plan or wtv was weird and it feels like it points to all of them having some type of ulterior motives…

Feel free to say what you think the answer is and why lol!!

I personally don’t trust Haku or Elias because they’ve always been on the suspicious side and I think Taiga’s unwillingness actually points to his innocence a little bit more bcs this is exactly how an innocent Taiga would act, a clear red herring if you will.

I’m excited to see where this will go and what is to be revealed but as of right now, we really don’t have much to go on to make definitive decisions

Jo Kongoza

Jo found himself kissing a magazine when he expected your lips. The hard, cold feeling had surprised him, as had the picture of a poodle with its head cocked at him, like it was just as confused as to how they ended up kissing. 

Jo laughed airily, moving the magazine aside. 

“What? You don’t want to kiss me?” 

“I don’t want to smear my lipstick,” you pouted. You definitely wanted a kiss, but you had spent the last hour doing your makeup, and fixing smeared lipstick involved smoothing over your foundation as well, and the many layers of skin product that involved. If you aimed to be fashionably late, you didn’t have the time to fix your face to that extent. 

Jo sighed, understanding, but longing. He stood behind you and kissed your neck to hold him over until you didn’t need to look so flawless. 

Elias Pratt

You covered the bottom half of Elias’ face with your hand. He blinked at you, confused until you leaned further away and uncovered his mouth. 

“Still don’t trust me?” He asked with mock innocence. 

“Nope. You always steal candy from me when I’m already eating it!” You took another piece of candy from the bag, adding it to your stash in your cheeks. Even storing some like a hamster didn’t mean it was safe from his ever-present sweet tooth. 

“I wouldn’t steal candy from my baby.” 

You pushed him back again when he inched closer to your lips. 

“You do it all the time!” Your mouth was starting to get full from your stash, making your voice thick and slurred. 

Elias laughed at your stuffed cheeks and settled for kissing the back of your hand. 

Mio Susuhara

“Go shower, stinky!” You hid your hand in your sleeve to block Mio’s mouth. His face was sweaty and had mechanical grease on it. The smell of him running around campus working all day was more than you wanted to deal with, and with him one kiss always turned into more. 

“Gotta pay the kiss tax first. It’s an installment fee, as of today.” 

You cocked your head at him, puzzled over his half baked logic. 

“So is it a tax or an installment fee?” 

“Both. You owe me two,” he smirked.

“I’ll give you three if you shower first.” 

Mio paused, considering. He wanted some affection now, but getting his shower over with sooner so he could relax without you pushing him away was the right move. 

“Fine.” 

Thinking that was that, you turned away to go back to your task. A sweaty face darted in your peripheral vision as he stole a kiss on your cheek and ran off before you could swat him away again. 

“Doesn’t count!” He called back to you as you gawked at his retreating form. 

Shion Genkai

Shion had pulled you in for a possessive kiss, but he had been a pain in the ass with his mixed signals and sadistic, bratty behavior. You pressed both of your hands on his face, one on either side of his mouth, the same way a cat would block his kiss. He tried to push past it, but ended up smushing his face. 

“Why are you being difficult?” His voice was muffled by your hands. 

“Because you’ve been terrible all day.” 

“Maybe I would behave if you kissed me.” He still tried to get around your hands, but there wasn’t enough room for him away from your hands to get a surprise attack kiss past you. 

“Yeah, right.” 

“Just try it,” Shion insisted.

Hehe I've seen this ask floating around before, but I love it and will never tire of throwing in my two cents! I wholeheartedly agree with you about Rui, Kaito and Towa being head over heels. Jin and Alan have a crushing type of overprotectiveness towards her that I do think touches on romance, but they are fighting those feelings, even if they are genuine. Elias, Sho and Leo seem to have a take-it-or-leave-it crush on her. Sho might think of her more often than Leo when she's not around, and Leo thinks of her when she's presented to him, either in person or when he's scrolling through his pics. And thanks to the most recent episode, I firmly believe Haku is in love as well. Despite his flirtation from day 1, he's actually a slow burn when it came to legit falling for her. And then there's whatever Shion has toward her, but I don't think I'll include that in this discussion because it's far from typical romantic love.

Jin is in a strange place. I do believe he has strong feelings but they are distant so I don't know if it's love. If it is, it's a tricky kind of love. Controlling, possessive, needy, but it's ultimately in a selfish way rather than knowing her and loving her for who she is. I get the sense he doesn't really know her at all, even though he could predict her actions. Any semblance of quality time between them is her serving him, and he's not one for small talk so I don't think he's made an effort to learn about her life, even if he's interested.

He wasn't particularly present in the last mission together, and on their missions he remains distant. It's shown the most when he swoops out of nowhere to rescue her from Alan or Shion, and that does show how closely he watches her. That does lend to her being important to him, which I would never deny that he is. At the same time, it's like he knows they would never work AND she's pivotal to the prophecy, so he's guarding her as much for that reason as her effect on him.

Rui basically trauma bonded with her since they are both cursed, and despite him being the type to gravitate toward easy flirting and sweet ladies, he is defenseless about how tragic their love is. He can't shake the knowledge that he can't make her limited time worth while because he can't touch her, so even voicing his feelings seems so cruel because he can't act on them. That turns the longing into this unfulfillable need that he cant stop thinking and dreaming of. If they were two normal people, he would still love her but he could still be frivolous about it. Since they aren't, it stops him from even wanting anything else, including friends' company when he's feeling particularly broody. I'm sure literal essays could be written about this, but I'll leave it at that.

Kaito is a sweetheart, and he definitely has feelings for her, but he can still easily be distracted by another girl because he would be fulfilled by his friendship with MC if he had a girlfriend. Plus he would see the boon of not having the pressure of potentially ruining their friendship since she's his closest friend and he's really not the most popular guy, by far. She's his first choice, of course, but not his only choice. Not like Rui's right now, and maybe a few others I'll touch on. In campus stories he checks out femme Jo, and he mentions that his dm's with girls have borne no fruit. So he's still actively looking elsewhere. Again, that doesn't devalue his feelings for her, I'm just comparing the type of romantic feelings the bois have for MC at this point.

Alan absolutely has a soft spot for her. Eventually he talks about head pats and iirc starts giving them to her, which shows just how cute he thinks she is. The fact that he allows himself to express affection to her like that shows how much she means to him, and I don't see those feelings as familial, or found-family ties.

Even when he starts feeling things for her, rather early on, he gets scared of it because I don't think it's something he has much experience with at all, especially since his personal tragedy. He says "don't get involved with me" which I'm sure he would say to many outsiders since he's in a rough area, but with everything else he does toward her, the small smiles and softness, overprotection and consideration he shows, it all hints at something deeper reserved only for her that he couldn't avoid because they have to work together. He's still his gruff self to the others and there's no one else that receives a similar reaction than he has to her. He's basically won over by forced proximity.

He's still pushing them away and focusing on the mission, choosing to do as much as he can alone so no one sees him cut loose and stumble to figure things out, but if he was successful in breaking her curse I think he would relax and allow her to get closer. He's as distant as he is because his heart is still reeling from his last personal loss, and he couldn't take losing what I believe would be his first love on top of that.

I've pretty much said all I wanted about Elias, Sho and Leo's crushes. They're small and fleeting but could grow to something more if she consciously chose to be closer to them. That is more reliant on player choice or head canon and likely forever outside the game. (Even though most of this is head canon territory.) They'd be sad if something happened to her but they wouldn't be devastated.

Finally, there's Haku. Idk why I saved him for last except that maybe the evidence of the depth of his feelings is something we've been hit by hard in 2 consecutive episodes. I won't go into great detail in case you're not caught up but here he goes...

Like Rui, he was introduced as a really flirty character so you're not supposed to think much of his lines at first. And this is a point towards Rui's feelings as well - they don't like when other people flirt with her. Not each other, not Edward, whoever. They are good player wingmen to each other but they hate having to third wheel for each other at the same time when it comes to her. There's no real way of knowing if they're always like that, it's possible they've competed for the same girl before but they both noticed MC separately and had some feelings develop before the three of them were thrown together and by then neither were willing to back down. That is the first hint that Haku's feelings are either on par with Rui's or pretty close, just lacking the same tragedy because he does get some fulfillment by being able to touch her. So if we're talking the flavor of their feelings, it's almost the same, except with Rui's being more bittersweet.

And steadily we see Haku's feelings grow. At first its still easy to assume he's this friendly with everyone, but when when it hints at just how much attention he pays to her, enough too notice her subtle mood shifts, energy levels, a few pounds difference, that's not the kind of attention any person, especially one as busy as he is, can have for too many people. Especially one's only occasional in his proximity because they aren't of the same house and she oversees all of them. So a.) they seek each other out and b.) he consciously pays very close attention because he wants to. In this way, unless MC visits Rui's bar more often than is let on, they get a lot more quality time together. As far as the main story, he definitely gets more time with her and the more he does, the more he wants to help and protect her.

His methods aren't overt like Jin and Alan, he's emotional support first, which those two are not able to easily offer to her. He does offer this to a lot of people, even doing those ghost seeing services or whatever in s2. Again, with her, it's out of his way to volunteer it. Not too notable alone, but in conjunction with everything else it means more.

Now with the s2 episodes he was in. We Haku girlies were FED. The first one, he was more serious and still flirty. It hints at their relationship going pretty damn far, depending on how you want to choose/interpret it, and I've always been of the mind Haku almost never falls in love with someone he hasn't slept with. While it's entirely possible, he's so mysterious and aloof, even though he'll have strong feelings, he is always emotionally restrained as far as his own needs and wants. But it'd be too hard for him as a romantic to continue that after showing enough vulnerability to be with her like that, and it comes as no surprise that after that mission he's more vocal about prioritizing her, and there is a tragic longing that wasn't there because of the current mission. It's nowhere near as potent as Rui's, but it's there.

I... ended up having a lot more thoughts about this than I expected o.o I should have known better tbh
