[On the moon] “It’s an interesting place to be. I recommend it.” -Neil Armstrong
Today the baby got very excited while playing. When she's very excited, she sings songs and I usually have no idea where she learned them because I have certainly never listened to the song with her.
She was playing with her trains, then got up suddenly and started singing "high hopes! Gotta high hopes! High hopes!" And I thought she was singing high hopes by Brendon urie (yuck). So, I played the song for her. She wailed and said no mama no! YouTube recommendations at the end of the video showed High Hopes by Frank Sinatra, and I thought, hmm well it can't hurt.
As soon as the song began, she squealed and clapped and sang along (to the best of her beenie weenie-bilities). At her preschool, the kids listen to Disney songs while waiting for pickup at the end of the day. I guess this is where she learned the song! This song is in A Goofy Movie (1995).
In 1999, on the 30th anniversary of the first moonwalk, the members of rec.crafts.textiles.needlework shared their memories of the historic event. Transcripts in alt text.

On this day in 1969, the Apollo 11 mission landed on the Moon. 🌙 And back on Earth, an estimated 600 million people watched this historic moment live on television—roughly one-fifth of the world’s population at that time! The mission had three crew members: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Collins piloted the craft that would return them to Earth, while Armstrong and Aldrin became the first two people ever to walk the Moon’s surface.

Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
On This Day in Planetary Geology!
The first humans set foot on the Moon: July 20, 1969
Neil Armstrong's first photo after setting foot on the Moon, digitally scanned by JSC in 2004 from original film roll. Rocks returned by Apollo astronauts have revolutionized our understanding of planetary formation.
The first fully successful landing on Mars: July 20, 1976
This is the first photograph ever taken on the surface of Mars, by the Viking 1 Lander.

July 16th, 1969- The Apollo 11 mission launched, carrying astronauts Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins and Neil Armstrong. After a journey of approximately 240,000 miles, Armstrong and Aldrin separated from the command module to descend to the lunar surface in the lunar module named Eagle.
A long time ago I heard a photographer say they tell people to say "money!" Instead of "cheese!" because "money" uses facial muscles that are also used during a real smile, and "cheese" doesn't. I don't know if that's true, but money is funnier than cheese. My toddler doesn't really respond to "say cheese!" but she goes wild when she hears "say money!" and it results in very silly photos.
If Spain wins the World Cup I'll post 50 polls a day for 24 hours.
If Argentina wins the World Cup I'll post only 1 poll tomorrow as in A POLL A DAY.
Congratulations Spain 🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉
As promised the queue will be set to 50 polls for the next 24 hours
I think Tumblr should institute an experimental "deep queue" which will reblog one random post from your likes every hour. Prioritizing the oldest crustiest posts you liked 10 years ago. And you can't choose which blog it goes to.

We went to the lake today and beenie weenie rode the jet ski again! After, we swam in the lake and she had a lot more fun than last time. By swimming, I mean she was my barnacle. Alex's dad made a mooring line with a 5 gallon bucket of concrete, a nylon rope, and a pool noodle. We swam to the noodle and let the lake wind take us around in circles. Then a big storm came in fast and we hid inside under blankets.
