Lena Waithe | Met Gala 2019
Lena Waithe, speaking the truth.
Diane von Furstenburg is wearing Andy Warholās portrait of her, which is SUCH a power move. Respect!
CARDI B
she came dressed as day 2 of a heavy period and I LOVE IT
Zendayaās dress lights up! Would be a bit fresher if Claire Danes hadnāt done something similar a few years ago, but hey, she did it!

Im sorry but what is camp? I tried searching on google but i have trouble understanding english and i dont really get it :(
Camp is difficult to explain but easy to spot once youāve got the hang of it. This is my interpretation based on my opinions, other people might describe it differently.
Susan Sontag, in ānotes on āCampāā, describes camp as āthe consistently aesthetic experience of the worldā āthe answer to the problem: how to be a dandy in the age of mass cultureā and āanti-seriousā. Camp is a fashion movement, but is also a way of approaching the world, individual people can be called camp.
The word is strongly associated with the lgbtq+ community and more specifically with gay men. Camp fashion is ugly and overblown. Camp has to be grand to be truly camp, it has to be enthusiastically appalling. It is associated with theatrical fashion and certainly contains the drama and passion of the stage. Camp is about enjoying and embracing fully an aesthetic that isnāt āchicā, stylish or pretty but one that is dramatic, loud and frivolous. Camp is ugly, itās big, itās colourful, itās silly, itās fun.
Itās been described as apolitical but I think it is rather political, especially within the lgbtq+ community when dressing unconventionally signals your membership to a marginalized group. Camp is snubbing your nose at how people say you āshouldā dress while still believing firmly in self decoration.
Camp is rather ironic, in that dressing camp is a careful fashion choice with a result that is āunfashionableā. This is what people are going to struggle with most at the met gala, I think. Theyāll cling to āprettyā and aim at āglamorousā and miss ācampā by a mile.
I realise this explanation is long and I donāt know if it is clear, but I hope itās a little bit helpful.
someone said it better than I could
letās pour one out for all the janitors who clean and never get enough appreciation
Donāt they gotta clean up what we pour out
fuck stop it everyone the post is cancelled everyone please stop fuck what have I done
letās clean one up for the janitors
i really want them to do a horror theme for the next met gala just to see what kind of looks everyone pulls out
like the references could be the costumes from francis ford coppolaās version of dracula, the vampire brides from van helsing, junji itoās work and maybe perfect blue like the opportunities are endless
i want hair to the floor i want dramatics i want terrifying

THE ANIMAL NOT THE COP KHFGJFGHHHJ
Same energy
Iām glad he clarified tbh
@copperbadge
A good holiday yolk.
Friendly reminder that the intro to Lion Kingā¦.the non english bits leading up to the ācircle of lifeā is not random yelling in *Africa voice* it is an actual language, Zulu, spoken by 10 million people, it is the most widely spoken language (out of 11) in the country of South Africa (1 out of the 54 countries in the continent of Africa, the continent homeĀ to somewhere between 1500-2000 languages and around 3000 distinct ethnic groups)
this isnāt to say that you have to friggin learn the language to sing along with a disney film, it just means that you should be mindful, respectful, appreciative and respectful. donāt be yelling out whatever noise comes in to your head when you hear it
Ok but someone knows what does this say?
The lyrics before the english comes inā¦in ācircle of lifeā
Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [Here comes a lion, Father] Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, itās a lion] Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [Here comes a lion, Father] Sithi uhm ingonyama [Oh yes, itās a lion] Ingonyama [Itās a lion] Siyo Nqoba [Weāre going to conquer] Ingonyama Ingonyama nengwā enamabala [A lion and a leopard come to this open place] (repeats) [queue English lyrics]
I would like to further add that language has there own cultural nuances so something that can sound extremely meaningful in one languages may not sound as majestic when translated to another (I know this as someone who has an understanding of 5 languages and speaks 3 of them fluently) so if you are thinkingĀ āoh it aināt that deep they are just yelling: the lion is coming!ā dial it back
Worth noting that ālionā and especially the word Ingonyama is a very respectful word to talk about a Zulu king, especially in praise. Itās so heavily associated with royalty in isiZulu that a different word is used for an animal lion - Ibhubesi. This isnāt just announcing the arrival of an animal, itās celebrating the arrival (or coronation?) of the king
/\ Whoop, I didnāt know this
This is so informative thank you so much
Lovely.
What a punch
This is assault and illegal. He may spew nothing but bile but his right to free speech must be protected
Aināt nobody throwing him in prison, so his freedom of speech isnāt being violated.
Also, learn what speech is exempt from it, like, for instance, fighting words. Words that by their very utterance inflict injury, andĀ speech that incites an immediate breach of the peace, kind of like, yknow, saying you want to exterminate all of their kind of people. Basically, talk shit get hit is 100% protected.
I swear people that yell about Freeze Peach have no idea what it means. If you provoke someone and then they act on that provication, then itās on you, not them.
