"I want to say something but shame prevents me yet if you had a desire for good or beautiful things and your tongue were not concocting some evil to say, shame would not hold down your eyes but rather you would speak about what is just" - Sappho (trans. Anne Carson), Fragment 137

save meeeeee catharsis of tragedy ‼️‼️
SAVE ME SOPHOCLES. SOPHOCLES SAVE ME
Watching Nosferatu was so fun but reminded me that I'm way too into Dracula because I kept waiting for the Quincey character that never appeared and genuinely forgot that the Mina equivalent does not survive and was shocked by the ending. Also it was the 1830s in Germany and I kept thinking about trains.

"Cities, like dreams, are made of desires and fears, even if the thread of their discourse is secret, their rules are absurd, their perspectives deceitful, and everything conceals something else." - Italo Calvino (trans. William Weaver), Invisible Cities

“Antigone: Death needs to have Death’s laws obeyed Kreon: same law for good and evil patriot and traitor Antigone: oh who knows how these definitions work down there Kreon: enemy is always enemy alive or dead Antigone: I am born for love not hatred Kreon: I will not be worsted by a woman” - Anne Carson, "Antigonick"
“Zeus does not Justice does not the dead do not what they call law did not begin today or yesterday when they say law they do not mean a statute of today or yesterday they mean the unwritten unfailing eternal ordinances of the gods that no human being can ever outrun of course I will die Kreon or no Kreon and death is fine this has no pain to leave my mother’s son lying out there unburied that would be pain” - Anne Carson, "Antigonick"
officially haunted by the phrase "pillow princeps"
Cannibalism as a metaphor for killing and eating people
sometimes shakespeare asks huge, life-altering questions in his texts, like "can you be forgiven for the worst thing you have ever done to someone?" and sometimes the answer is "no. die about it"
Shakespeare in full greek tragedy mode is my favourite flavour

Fascinating how well Clytemnestra and Tamora would get along, I know the more obvious comparison is Medea and Tamora but I'm more interested in the former pairing.
I love The Borgias (2011-2013) because it is actually the funniest show I've ever seen and the entire premise is the entire Vatican and every person in it trying to out-serve each other and they just keep raising the gambit with no end in sight. Also Jeremy Irons plays Pope Alexander VI aka Rodrigo Borgia so every line delivery is inherently incredible.
