So, so very tired of seeing post after post that patronizingly tells trans men and mascs that we deserve to talk about the things we experience but that the way weâre doing it is transmisogyny because we use the wrong word, cuz we talk about how our bodies materially affect us, because we donât add the disclaimer that trans women have it worse to every single post, cuz we suggest that we might be different from cis men, cuz we talk about how weâre treated differently to cis men, because we bring up the intersections of race and gender, class and gender, because, because, becauseâŚ
But yes, we sure do deserve a space to talk about the issues we face. What issues are we allowed to talk about again?
Is saying trans men pass easier not just bio essentialism? You think testosterone is a more powerful hormone? You think estrogen is the weaker hormone? Thatâs bio essentialism!
Look, I donât disagree with DIY HRT and if/when I lose access to my insurance, I will most likely go the DIY route, but I really wish all these pro-DIYers didnât frame every conversation about lack of access to HRT as a personal failure.
Like there might be more barriers to HRT than just lack of funds when u live in a transphobic societyâŚâŚâŚ
cis people are wayyyy too damn comfortable with making jokes about men getting pregnant. and frankly so are other trans people.
idk what trans man/transmasc needs to hear this but no you are not in on the joke. 9/10 when somebody makes an mpreg joke they are not laughing with you. they aren't even really laughing at you. they are laughing at a caricature of you. they know what a trans man is and yet have so little care about trans men that their first thought when it comes to pregnant men is the hilarity of a cis man being feminized (often forcefully) and how amusingly grotesque or amusingly erotic they find it. you are not in on the joke. you were never in on the joke.
like. :( this was a funny episode otherwise but this was just really uncomfortable and upsetting to see. especially since i know dropout cuts out certain prompts in editing for a lot of reasons, so this promot went through so many different steps and nobody brought up how this might come across? or nobody thought it was bad enough? and i kept waiting for the contestants (one of whom literally is genderqueer!) to work into their jokes something make it clearly about cis men or smth, but. no. and how am i supposed to take that y'know?
i think my biggest problem is that these jokes boil down to "isn't it so WEIRD that a man is pregnant/has breasts???? isn't that so STRANGE?????" and whether you take that the route of "this is funny because its disgusting/disturbing" or "this is funny because its extremely erotically charged, often in a way tied to humiliation/control" you are deriving comedy from the idea of a trans/intersex man's body just. existing naturally. there is no greater depth it is just "wouldn't it be funny if a man was female in some way? but still identifiably masculine but in a way that has been corrupted by the sexual embarrassment of the most stereotypically female act? isn't that amusing?" and at worst its another example of how, when people try to get one over on cis men through the route of gendered/sexed humor, it frequently relies on leveraging trans & intersex men as examples of a man at his most failed, embarrassing, sexually dominated. and the worst part is again that there's not even a cursory attempt to diffuse this charge by the comedians making these jokes, there isn't any acknowledgement of what they are talking about. it's like anyone who's ostensibly a trans ally enters this pocket universe where trans and intersex men don't exist whenever one of these jokes comes around. and how am i supposed to feel about this!!!!!!!!!!!!
also its funny that the only time I have ever seen any meaningful public outrage about these jokes was towards Lil Nas X with his Industry Baby promotional stuff. which i frankly didn't even mind. because while obviously there was an element of "man pregnant!! how strange!!" because of Society, but to me the humor was primarily "a literal reference to the album title" + "i have a new album coming out, so i am depicting myself as literally pregnant with my new album." if he had been a cis woman, it still could've been funny, because there was more to it than just the shock factor of him being a man (although that is mostly how people took it).
but yeah. the only time ive ever seen anyone get any meaningful pushback against these kinds of jokes, was when it could be used to "call out" a Black GNC gay man who was already getting a ton of homophobic hate. how interesting.
"boypreggers" "boyvulating" "boybortion" do you know that a black trans men had the cops called on him because he went to an OB/GYN? or how a black trans man had doctors try to pressure him into getting an abortion, on top of other racist and transphobic medical mistreatment that caused him to have a mental breakdown and develop PTSD after giving birth? or how a black trans man was arrested for shoplifting because he was pregnant and they assumed his baby bump was stolen clothes? or that a pregnant trans man had to jump out of an uber with his wife and run away from the car because the driver was threatening him for being a pregnant man? or how a pregnant trans man was murdered by his abusive husband and misgendered across the news? do you think about any of this ever? do you remember your mpreg obsession when you start talking about reproductive rights or do you immediately start talking about "men controlling women's bodies" without a hint of fucking irony? has your fetishization and mockery of male pregnancy actually translated into any meaningful support for men who can get pregnant?
& i wanna make this crystal clear my point is not "everyone who makes these jokes knowingly is doing it to mock trans men." many people who make these jokes DO think they are doing it in xyz totally lighthearted unrelated to trans men way you think justifies this. my point is that no matter what people think these jokes are about, they are indicative of how we think about and engage with the reality of trans and intersex men. at the very least i want people to think twice before they throw around these jokes like there's no deeper meaning here.
reminder to all trans & intersex men that you are always allowed to be a huge bitch about mpreg jokes. it IS that deep and you are RIGHT to be upset about it.

transmisogyny isn't 'girl transphobia' but also transmascs can't use that term ever. transfems are hypervisible but also transmascs are the 'default' trans. transmascs are lazy whining children but they're also running every lgbtq+ society on earth. society is systematically transphobic but also sees trans men as men and gives them male privilege. people afab can fall back on their agab for privilege but people amab never can.

i think we should start openly mocking male creatives who can't figure out how to write women. like actually i think it's embarrassing that it took elliot page transitioning for christopher nolan to give him a good role. why did it take like ten years to get the first female lead in a marvel movie? why is it a Known Fact that stephen king can't write women? why is 50% of the population omitted from large ensemble works? i asked my friend to name a movie directed by a man with a majority female cast and he said ghostbusters 2016. ghostbusters. ghostbusters. g
Elliot Page also starred in Inception before transitioning, and from what Iâve heard is in The Odyssey for less than five minutes, so thatâs a really weird example to use. Like, I donât disagree with the overall point, but why is that the first example? Kind of feels more like criticizing Nolan for hiring a trans actor than actually being about men not able to write women.
Elliot Page is such a good example of how when trans men transition people automatically read privilege into their experiencesâthem specfically, in a way that singles them out among the sea of cis men they are surrounded with living their lives uncontroversiallyâwhen all evidence suggests they are actually experiencing the exact opposite of that. Elliot Page has gotten nothing but hate and scrutinity from the general public and the media and his career has taken some serious damage since coming out.
the very first thing that happens in the movie is Elliot Page's character dies. I understand the confusion, but typically when a minority dies in the first 5 minutes of a movie we consider this to be a Weird Choice and scrutinize people for making it.
The Rules of Anti-Transmasculinity
1. Your body is not your own.
1a. Your body is a site for otherâs desires.
If they want you to be beautiful, it is cruel of you to deny them that. If they want you to be feminine, it is cruel of you to deny them that. If they think you should reproduce, it is cruel of you to divest yourself of reproductive duties.
1b. Your body is owned by the state.
Reproductive laws that can affect cis women also affect you, but you cannot weigh in on them, because you are not a woman.
Anti-trans laws affect you, but you must not bring this up; you are never the ârealâ target, even when you are, because you are not âreallyâ trans.
When the legislation talks about âprotectingâ your fertility, you should feel lucky to be safeguarded from yourself.
- - -
2. Your experiences are not your own.
Your childhood does not exist. You cannot claim girlhood if you are a man, and you cannot claim boyhood if you did not grow up within it, and no other visions of childhood may exist. Your history, however you define it, is fundamentally incompatible with who you are.
Forms of sexism which are aimed at women, by a binary logic, cannot be aimed at men or mascs. If your experiences contradict this, either you are invalidating your identity, or you are appropriating womanhood.
It is your duty to blithely dissociate yourself from any trauma patriarchy may have inflicted on you. Men cannot be affected by these things even if it happens to them personally. A ârealâ man must be stoic and uncaring.
- - -
3. You are a âdefaultâ body.
You are to be assumed affluent, perisex, binary, and passing, with no legal or situational barriers to medical or social transition, and no reproductive concerns to speak of â unless your nonconformity can be used to dismiss you.
You are assumed to be able-bodied, sane of mind, white, and thin â unless your mental health or appearance is good for mockery.
You are to be treated as essentially cismasculine. Being treated as if you are cis is a compliment, even when it is erasing your lived experiences, and even if it is known and true that transfems have their own unique struggles from cis women too.
- - -
4. You are an âaberrantâ body.
4a. Your body is a site of fascination. You (are presumed to) have a gestative capacity, and a fun extra hole. These traits are relevant when others assess your attractiveness and their kinks. They are not relevant in the context of your health. Youâre a submissive little bottom, right?
(Your body is something to conquer and claim. This may be done to emphasize your femininity, deny your androgyny, or defang your masculinity.)
4b. Your body is a site of disgust. Any steps you may take to masculinize yourself are âruiningâ your âfemaleâ features, regardless of any joy you personally take from the changes, and regardless of if you engage with medical transition or not.
(You are killing the woman you are supposed to be. Stand trial.)
4c. Your body is too unattractive to be sexually violenced. It doesnât happen. When it does, you have anatomical privilege, because you are (presumed to be) in possession of a vulva, and victims with those are of course always believed. But it doesnât happen, because you are essentially a cis man, and of course men don't get raped.
(It is not possible to be targeted for this violence because you are transmasculine. It is always misaimed violence, intended for someone else. Apologize to her for taking up her space.)
4d. Your body is a proxy for otherâs ideas about activism. Womanhood is good, and manhood is bad, and things in-between are uncomfortable and hard to classify; therefore, a detransition back to cisfemininity would be a preferable state of being, wouldnât it?
(Your transition is at odds with good feminism.)
4e. Your body is a joke. Men donât menstruate. Men donât gestate. Men donât lactate. Men can't have breasts. If the suggestion sends people into hysterics, you must take it lying down.
(Remember; comedy is subversion, and you are an âabberantâ body.)
4f. Your body is a hypothetical and not a lived reality. If men could menstruate or gestate, that would fix patriarchy. It would not result in men being denied at the door of the gynecology office, surely.
(To entertain your existence is a rhetorical inconvenience.)
4g. Your body is a source of put-down. You are a cunt, a pussy, a fembrained bitchmoid â and it isnât sexist to refer to you as such, because you are a man. Your disinclination to be reduced to bioessentialist biogotry is simply proof that your masculinity is fragile. It is not proper for you to object to it, even when it is the same rhetoric spewed by patriarchy itself, and even if it would be equally galling to say to a woman, cis or trans.
(Have you not considered that your trans body is privileged under cis patriarchy?)
4h. Passing is universal to all transmasculine bodies and all life situations. Closeted, clocky, queer, or femme trans men and mascs cannot exist, and are not subjected to the same violence as women or other queer men. Legal gender markers donât matter. Medical access isnât a concern. People from your past cannot possibly be vindictive enough to out you, because queer or not, you have male privilege.
(Have you considered that you simply arenât trying hard enough to pass?)
- - -
5. If you are inadequately masculine, pre-transition, nonbinary, or bi-gendered, you cannot âreallyâ be a man.
Remember; you are a lost little girl when you need to be talked down to.
Remember; manhood and womanhood are diametric opposites, exclusive states of being.
Remember; poverty is not an excuse.
- - -
6. If you are inadequately feminine or too masculine, you cannot âreallyâ be queer.
Remember; you are a âdefaultâ body.
Remember; you are essentially cis.
- - -
7. If you are too assertive or too unwilling to serve as a punching bag, you cannot âreallyâ be a feminist.
Remember; men cannot be feminists.
Remember; men cannot need feminism.
Remember; your masculinity is most readily acknowledged when it provides a rhetorical threat.
- - -
8. If you really insist on your masculinity, then it must be in service to others. You owe them labor, defense, money, and deference.
You are not owed equality or reciprocity, because men are responsible for patriarchy. You are on the hook for the patriarchâs debt, and you are presumed to share his wallet.
(A man is a protector and a provider. I thought you wanted to be a man?)
- - -
9. Your interest in your own autonomy is indistinguishable from power-grabbing.
Your self-determination and self-advocacy aligns you with patriarchal interests, or is a sign that you are too battered by patriarchy to self-determine in the first place. Someone else must decide these things for you. Someone else must speculate on your motives. You do not get to speak for yourself.
- - -
10. Your inclusion and representation is not important.
10a. When you notice your absence from culture, art, and storytelling, others ask; why do you not simply project your experiences onto cis men? Remember, you are a default body. Surely you are different from other queer people who need direct representation.
(When you try to do that, you are classically fembrained and illiterate for thinking a given character could have transmasculine subtext or themes.)
Projecting onto cis women is akin to killing them.
Why are you not satisfied with mpreg fanfic?
10b. When you make your own art and stories, you are playing with dolls. It is unimportant, juvenile, and easily dismissed much in the way that people discuss teenage girls who act as culture-makers.
(If transmasculinity is not present in the world of art, it must be because it has no artistic merit.)
- - -
11. Your erasure is proof that you have nothing to offer.
The muffling of violence done to you or your brothers is proof that no violence occurs in the first place.
The muffling of you or your brotherâs contributions is proof that none of you contributed in the first place.
The removal of your brothers from the historical narrative is proof that they didnât exist, or that they never stood in solidarity with other feminists and queers.
Silence is proof that you need not speak.
- - -
12. Denying any danger that you may be in is affirmative to your masculinity, because men cannot be harmed.
There are no statistics that say otherwise if we never read them.
There are no patterns of abuse if we never speak of them.
There are no dead if they are recorded as femicides.
There are no victims if we do not speak their names.
- - -
These contradictory impositions are not aimed at transmascs alone, but they are the recurring patterns I notice as a transmasculine feminist. We are not the only ones in danger, but we are queer all the same, and all queerness is targeted under patriarchy.
It is detrimental to the trans community and the broader queer community to call every instance of infighting a psyop or due to a âloud, vocal minorityâ.
Regardless if these are how these discussions actually take place, they exist and are extremely, extremely good at feeding into peoples preconceived prejudices and biases, and clearly itâs spreading outside of the tags here on tumblr. Do we all remember that gay British tik tok-er who compared the suffering between trans women and trans men and implied that trans men have it easier? How about the video of the person who loudly and proudly proclaimed that we actually donât need any more music from trans masc artists?
The rise in trans radical feminism is founded on gender essentialism (and arguably bio essentialism) and feeds directly into peoples misogyny, only now it gives misogynistic people an acceptable target to air out their misogynistic grievances.
Most people, regardless of how progressive they are, fail to unlearn their misogyny or to understand how patriarchy as a system works. Often, people who proclaim to be feminists are not actually interested in equality, but rather flipping the tables and gaining power.
Just because someone is trans or queer does not mean they are immune to this line of thinking. So psyop or no psyop, loud minority or not, itâs working. Letâs stop dismissing it as a non issue because of its potential origin.

One day in the future thereâs gonna be a study done about transandrophobia and anti transmaculinity in the queer community and itâs gonna be about the insane amount of slurs and derogatory terms used against trans men, trans mascs, and people perceived as being AFAB.
And then theyâre gonna look at where these words originated and I think weâre all going to find it very, very interesting and funny /s : )
If youâre someone who believes that gender is stored in how oppressed you are, of course youâre going to become very confused and upset when someone who belongs to a group that historically has held power says that maybe because of one little thing (being trans) they actually do not have access to that power and are also oppressed!
Genuinely, I think this is why so many TRFs get upset at trans men and mascs speaking about medical misogyny. We are not weaponizing our AGABs by talking about material reality, our oppression does not threaten the validity of trans women and femâs oppression because gender is not determined by how oppressed you are. You do not have to be The Most Oppressed to be a woman, and being apart of a marginalized group does not automatically mean you are a woman.
Fundamentally, a lot of this transandrophobia that comes from within the trans community is coming from a place of dysphoria and we need to start recognizing it as such.
Idk I genuinely think that if youâre not a trans man or trans masc you should actually just shut the fuck up about us. Literally why do so many people who are not these things think they have ANY authority on the lived experiences of trans men and mascs? Itâs really telling just how far yâall have leaned into the whole âtrans men are just confused, unintelligent little girls who canât think for themselvesâ thing. Itâs clear how many of you hold deeply misogynistic mind sets and think youâve figured out an acceptable target to air all that out on.
Genuinely, your hearts are so full of hate.
Watched a great video by video essayist Laniâs Lens on YouTube about how pop feminism is failing us, and she was able to precisely pin point and explain why the âhate all menâ stuff cannot be all that feminism is. She asked âis your feminism about hating men, or is it about uplifting women?â
This, I feel, is applicable to all types of activism. Are you an activist because you believe in bettering the lives of the people you fight for, or are you doing it to get even with people you hate?
So when I watch these TRFs go on and on about how trans men/mascs need to take a seat and let trans women/fems take the stage, how all trans men/mascs should die or detransition, and so on, it becomes clear that TRFs donât fight FOR trans women/fems Their feminism is about hating trans men/mascs, which in the end puts trans men/mascs back on stage and has trans women/fems as merely a tool they can use for their hatred.
Idk bout yâall, but I love all trans people. I want all of us to be safe to realize our selves, to love who we are, to become what we want to become. My activism comes from love, and I hope in time every TRF who has adopted transandrophobia as the lens which they view transfeminism comes to realize they hurt not only trans men/mascs, but trans women/fems as well.
Idk the most hurt I feel is when your very best friend who has never misgendered you suddenly does and you realize that they donât actually see you as what you and are, that youâre still very much in the âwomanâ box to them. And then I spiral and I think, well. Try as I might, I just will never be a Man. There are only so many options here and I donât think any of them but one is feasible if I canât be a man.

Is there a way to talk about side effects of HRT without basically giving transphobes a âreasonâ to continue to be transphobic? If that makes sense?
There was a video on IG from a trans man who said T has basically impaired him cognitively, and itâs true that everyone has different reactions and we should respect that, but my immediate feeling was anxiety that this would be used by transphobes to basically be like âsee, this is POISONâ etc etc.
But then I thought of the initial question on this post because people should be able to talk about negative side effects, but how can we do that safely in the climate we are in?
Ngl I think a lot of TRFs donât even believe misogyny is a real thing that affects cis women, let alone trans mascs/men
