edit: i’m just thinking about the research ethics and dude. like??? come on. genital variations should be something we allow to progress into adulthood (obviously excluding if there are actual structural pathologies that need surgical intervention, like hypospadia along with PAIS idfk) so we can actually learn how to provide accurate, anatomically accommodating medical care to intersex people. cuz yeah, (not a real stat) 90% of intersex people are given these surgeries at birth but those who aren’t deserve to have their bodies understood by science and medicine. and the practice should be outlawed anyway, if intersex people want cosmetic surgery on their external organs (or even internal!) as adults, that’s a decision they can make at 18. just like trans people. speaking as a intersex person myself.
