Well. Shit.
When she had asked Lal to the ball, her cheeks turned so red she wanted to implode with embarrassment. When Lal had agreed to go to the ball with her, she almost did implode.
The evening had crept around sooner than she had expected. They made it through the chaos of last week in one piece and now, finally, they could enjoy a nice evening (hopefully) together and forget about everything that had happened. They’d been through so much, they deserved a little down time.
When she’d seen her, however, that need to implode again returned to her as a tsunami of flustered feelings of fucking gay and she couldn’t even form coherent words. “Y-y-you… ah…” Damn it Korra, pull yourself together…
Damn she looked good. She looked so fucking good and Korra couldn’t believe how lucky she was.
She cleared her throat and finally pulled herself together. Despite the rosy hue upon her tan cheeks she managed to compose herself and compliment her date. “You look amazing…” She smiled and quickly handed her the rose she’d picked up on the way here. “I don’t know if you like flowers but here…”
Damn it.
Like the flip of a light switch, everything had been set right again. Gone were the apprehension and desperation of the situation, but gone too were her flames and weapons. It might have been a fair trade if the city itself did hold dangers of it's own, but Lal was capable enough to travel through this world without much more than her training, fists and wits. It was for this reason, her lifelong need to defend herself, that such serenity sat heavy in the pit of her stomach. Things were too quiet, too still, with people intermingling and chatting and dancing as though the past didn't happen, as if none of them were trapped here against their will. Lal grabbed a shot of something or another and tossed it back, the burn down her throat bringing peace to her troubled mind.
"Avatar." She greeted the young woman who had come into her life and completely flipped everything. Even when Lal tried to wedge them apart, still there had been planted a seed for her and no matter what, she knew she would not be able to keep from caring.
She took the rose, noted the full bloom and removed thorns. She either paid a lot or put in effort herself, either way, Lal gave the girl the softest smile, just the minimalist upturn of her lips, but notable enough if one were paying attention. "No crown today?" She teased and tucked the rose behind her ear, the color contrasting beautifully against her dark blue hair. "Is this a sign? Should I be worried?"
As another song started up, Lal held out her hand to the Avatar and tilted her head towards the dance floor.

She almost wept in relief when her call was received after the third of forth ring. She didn’t reply right away, choosing to stop and lean against the wall in order to calm her nerves. She sounded okay but that would remain to be seen. Shakily, she brushed her hair out of her face and finally replied to her question.
“Sector One… o-out by the entrance to Alpha… Lal…” She paused for a moment, glancing over at the destruction. “You’re not in Alpha, are you…? The exit is completely blocked off…” No amount of earthbending could move the rubble. Whoever was trapped within had to remain until this was all over.
She paused for a moment, realising the extent of what Lal said, no matter how brief. ‘I’ll come to you.’
No.
“No…! No you can’t, it’s too dangerous here! It’s—” A loud crash cut her off, the metallic screech of the monster from the distance shook the sector. Whatever was going on over there, she prayed that whoever was fighting that thing was winning.
However, the monster seemed to be the least of her problems.
Drones began swarming the area, many of which this time wielded projectiles. With her phone in one hand, she used the other to send a large blast of fire toward the drones, destroying the leading the few. However, more and more kept coming, thinking she was a threat to the monster beyond. A few attacked and Korra barely managed to duck; she took a running start and utilised the air to give her a boost upward to the nearest rooftop. They’d pursue, of course, but it gave her time to speak with Lal once more.
“We’ll meet half way,” She decided. “Where are you?”
“I’m en route, Avatar.” It was nothing to run and talk at the same time, her stamina having been built over various lifetimes, but the assault she could hear over the phone was jarring. The monster's cry and being so far away, Lal could only speculate what was happening. "I am currently on Sector 6's perimeter and heading to you. If I over shoot the half way point, that's on you and your slow legs. You should learn to run faster." Was she joking to alleviate the situation, or maybe she was serious? It was anyone's guess, but while her word's emotional root was questionable, the words themselves were true. Lal would run until she saw Korra again. It didn't matter how long or how far that would be.
"I've got your GPS location on my phone, no matter what, keep yours on your person. Understood?" She had to pocket said phone as her path became saturated with the enemy. In a large sweep of the area immediately in front on her, Lal's centipede dispatched a number of them, giving Lal time to feed her flames into her gauntlet and shoot through as she ran. On occasion, she could feel the tell tale sting of a blade that got too close to her skin, or a bullet that just grazed the flesh. "Avatar." She held the phone to her ear once more. "What's your situation?" Should I learn to fly? "Talk to me." She was letting her heart dictate her brain. That could be dangerous.

⊰ ⚙ ⊱ This wasn’t the spirit world, nor was it her idea of a vacation and yet here she finds herself suddenly in the midst of what seemed to be chaos. Not to mention the clear and far jump in technology surrounding her. Was she in over her head? Probably. But when was she not? Yet she usually managed just fine alongside powerful benders. She’s caught off guard by the situation and the onslaught of drones, eyes widening as another woman speaks up and then attacks with something unfamiliar to her. Her first thoughts jump to wanting to know the technology behind it; it was amazing! But she couldn’t let herself fall into her thoughts, there wasn’t time currently.
With her electrified glove back in her possession for some reason, though she’d initially showed up with some rubber gloves, she’s ready for battle regardless of her confusion and shock. “Thank you!” She wants to show her gratitude to the person who just saved her life, it’s quicker than she wants but her expression and voice give away all her gratitude easily. “I…don’t know what’s happening, but maybe I can help.” She raises her arm, blue electricity crackling around her palm and fingers before jumping into action, dodging a few strikes from a group of drones only to pop up behind them and electrocute them. Mechs plus electricity just never mixed well, did they?
There's no doubt that the girl before her had received adequate training for a significant number of years. Her form and confidence read as someone who knew what they were doing, rather than someone recklessly trying to prove themselves or be a hero. Wordlessly, Lal gave the girl a curt nod, expressing her appreciation and approval, but her face remained as stone and her eyes narrowed as she focused more on the task at hand and less on the relief that a person she had saved was not going to become a nuisance.
"Nice glove." Lal called over the chaos, her own arm mounted weapon held up, a barrage of bullets shooting out at once. She was grateful these drones were weak enough for a normal bullet, she would hate to have to burn her flames, to infuse the lead with cloud and lose that advantage later on. When she sought out the beast.
There were a number of reasons why she wanted to fight with that thing. First and foremost was to test her own skill against the unkillable, even knowing she would probably fall to it as so many already had. It wasn’t the only one, and if by some miracle, she managed to take it down, she would repeat the process with the rest until she won, or.... She neglected to think of that and in her stupor, Lal had allowed the radius she had maintained around her to slowly close in. As if mind guided, the giant centipede came back, trashing through metalic bodies as it went and coiled around the woman, giving her a better defense while she shot a few more rounds into the mass.

I think I shouldn’t see you anymore.
That’s what Lal said to her that day. Her words repeated themselves over and over and over in her head, tormenting her over and over and over.
I am not meant to have friends.
Was she stupid? Of course she was. Korra had tried to talk some sense into her but whether or not it worked was another matter. She hadn’t spoken to Lal since, be that a coincidence or not she didn’t know but right now she found herself in the middle of sector one, sending huge slabs of earth at the drones which threatened to block her path.
Her power had awakened but it wasn’t a day for celebration.
No way, not today. She had to make sure Lal was safe. She couldn’t live with herself if she didn’t.
The drones were easy, they were nothing compared to the beast within the sector, destroying everything and everyone in its path. However the drones slowed her down and it wasn’t until an almighty crash did she realise the extent of the situation.
The entrance to District Alpha was completely destroyed and Korra knew that’s where Lal lived. She just prayed she wasn’t trapped in there with… who know what. No matter what she did, she couldn’t unblock the entrance.
Quickly, she pulled out her cellphone and fumbled with it for a few moments before she was able to figure out how to dial Lal’s number. “Please pick up, please pick up, please…”
Despite everything she had said, despite every action to the contrary, Lal didn't want to stop seeing Korra. When this whole thing began, she thought she could ignore her base instinct to seek out the younger woman, to find her and protect her with her life if need be, but the drones and those beasts' appearance thrust her into action.
There was no telling where she could be, she had a protective string longer than Lal's own, and she could really be stubborn and persistent when it came down to it. Lal only hoped she hadn't gotten in over her head. She knew she had said goodbye and that it should have been the end, but she was wrong, she had to know, Korra had to know that she didn't want to live with this unrelenting regret anymore.
As soon as was possible, Lal dashed out and sought her out. Everything around her fell to the wayside, everyone else faded away, leaving only Korra, Lal, and that dread in the pit of her stomach for fear of losing yet another loved one.
She was half way to Sector 6 when her phone vibrated from her back pocket. She'd forgotten she even had that.
She carefully slipped the rectangle free and her heart skipped a beat at the name displayed across the screen. With a quick glance to her surroundings and deeming it safe enough, Lal answered the phone.
"Where are you?" She may have sounded more stern than she meant to, but her mind was on mission mode and it was hard to shut that off. "I'll come to you."
There were times she had been told she worried too much, or that she was too paranoid over the potential of anything happening. Lal's need to protect those around her meant she needed to be strong, and that meant she needed constant training. That's not to say she didn't rely on her weaponry, and she was more than happy to receive both her gauntlet and box weapons back. She safely secured them to her belt but no sooner had she done so that she was made to use them.
“Watch it!” It wasn't her place to step in when other's were inches from their end, but there was a touch of familiarity about the young woman that stirred up something within Lal. In an instant, her beloved Zamba, the cloud flame centipede, escaped it's confined box and pierced through a small army of drones, it's ever long body easy maneuvering through metal as Lal held up her arm, gauntlet firmly in place, and opened fire.

Lal was an extremely guarded person, Korra knew that. She knew that from the moment they’d met and on those rare occasions, she’d notice how those guards lowered ever so slightly. This was one of those occasions.
She couldn’t help but laugh just a little under her breath at her statement. “Actually, if you were going to show me a little affection, I was hoping you’d be nicer about it but hey, if that’s what I’m given then I’ll take it!” Of course she wanted affection from Lal; she admired her, in more ways than one. The thought alone caused a hot flush to creep up her cheeks to the tips of her ears and she disguised her sudden fluster with a small cough and a nervous grin.
“Do you really have to?” She wanted to reach out to her—she never wanted her to leave, not ever. She wanted to break down those guards and see how Lal could really be. She’d seen snippets and that wasn’t enough. “I mean, I can’t make you but… I’d rather you didn’t…”
Korra's deep blush stirred some warmth within Lal. It made her stomach flip into itself and her own cheeks colored with barely acknowledged feelings. This was too dangerous. Even within a city like this - even if it was someone as strong as Korra - Lal didn't want to risk losing someone else. Her own heart couldn't handle being ripped apart again.
“Korra...” Lal stepped back and held the Avatar’s forearms lightly in her hands, her eyes meeting those of the girl that seemed to keep crashing into her life and bringing out some protectiveness out of the woman. “I think I shouldn’t see you anymore.” Maybe if she ripped her own heart, she might be able to control some of the damage.”I am not meant to have friends or-” Or what? What were they? What did she want them to become?
Lal sighed.
“I’m glad you are doing better.”

Evanescence {Sentence Starters}
“All I want is to give my life only to you.”
“Still can’t find what keeps me here.”
“These wounds won’t seem to heal.”
“Save me from the nothing I’ve become.”
“They took you away from me but now I’m taking you home.”
“I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems.”
“I don’t want to hold you back now.”
“I’m so tired of being here, suppressed by all my childish fears.”
“You’re not real and you can’t save me.”
“Your face—it haunts my once pleasant dreams.”
“Is it clear enough that you can’t live your whole life all alone?”
“You know you’ve got everybody fooled.”
“I’ve been denying this feeling of hopelessness.”
“I fear there will be nothing good left of you.”
“There’s just too much that time cannot erase.”
“You believed in me, but I’m broken.”
“One day we won’t feel this pain anymore.”
“Don’t let me die here!”
“You play the role of all you long to be.”
“You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me.”
“Don’t want your hand this time. I’ll save myself.”
“You think that I can’t see right through your eyes.”
“I wanna see you try to take a swing at me.”
“Call my name and save me from the dark.”
“I won’t be held down by who I used to be.”
“Sure,” he replied, waving off the topic. If Lal wished to believe they were dead then she was free to. Just as he was free to believe the Vongola had been wiped out. Ah, if only he could have seen their deaths.
“Would never betray~” He felt as though only a fool would take his word for it. And so in his opinion an obvious lie didn’t count as a lie. Which made his statement more of a joke than anything else. Then she asked the same question again, to which he huffed out a sigh. “Already answered.”
Would never betray? Lal gave him a stern look, he lied so easily, yet so obviously. Or was it only obvious because she knew him? "It must be hard. Being alone again." Her voice almost seemed to have dropped an octave, an obvious sign he was getting on her nerves. "But if the little prince, ruler of nothing, doesn't want to cooperate, then I will retract any help I might have provided."
She doubted that would sway him one way or another, but she was not here to play games. The city was growing in violence and she didn't need some nuisance to watch over. She also didn't need one of his knives lodged in her flesh.
"Good luck." Though she doubted he would need it. She backed away, not one to expose her back to a potential threat, especially one with such accuracy as the blond.
Don’t be alarmed, Hive City, if you walk by Sector 6 and hear the gentle giggling coming from the woods.. Did you see that? No, of course not, there’s no such thing as fairies. You must be losing your mind. If you hear soft voices and sing song tones, it would be best to stay away from District Mu.. at least, for now.
[[Hello hello hello my lovely muns! It’s been three years since I’ve done a mini event so I’m really excited. Last time I did one of these I had so much fun, so here we go again! I’m stoked, I’ve been planning this for months.
On July 25th, I (well, Light) will be hosting a Midsummer’s Night Dream themed summer ball which will take place in Sector 6, District Mu! The ball itself takes place on the 25th, but starters for the ball can be written from the 25th of July to the 1st of August, so the ball itself will have only been one night in Citta canon, but the event will be a week real time. It’ll be a semi formal to formal type deal and I’ll be contacting a couple people through out the month (IC) about things like food, drink, decor, etc.
So! Do me a favor and reblog this post! Just like the last ball I did, I’m going to be making invitations for everyone who does (Citta affiliated blogs only, obviously) which means your submit box needs to be open so your character can get theirs.
Use the tag #ca midsummer as easy access for starters, dash commentary, etc. so that it’s easier for people to follow. That’s the tag I’ll be using for updates or news about the event as well!
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me about it! I’d love to answer them! IMs are open as well if you feel more comfortable contacting me that way. I hope people will enjoy doing this event as much as I’ve enjoyed planning it!]]
I tell myself that I’ll be strong.

While it was true a prince without a kingdom was no real royal he was still one in mind. And perhaps those who deem themselves royalty so vehemently without the throne to back up were the real ones to be feared. Especially if they sought something that was taken.
Egos were a dangerous thing after all.
“Oh?” He paused, smile spreading a little wider. “So you’ll help me?” He asked to twist her denial for servitude into a promise until the mocking gesture Lal had first given. Or, rather, more of a confirmation.
Then at her question he gave an exaggerated shrug. “Haven’t seen anyone else.” It was a roundabout way to answer, sure, but he didn’t care. “All the other Vongola brats must be dead,” he added with his signature laugh.
"The Vongola aren't here, but they are far from dead". Last she saw them anyway. She didn't care for his choice of words, or how cheerily he said them but famiglia is famiglia, she reminded herself; even if CEDEF and the Varia were as removed and independent of each other as could be, they were both still Vongola... Lal grit her teeth, how did Xanxus deal with the prince? How did Viper? Did she too have to adopt some laid back attitude? She doubted he would respond to her blunt and Spartan ways as the few students she had trained had, but she couldn't bring herself to lay back and let him do and demand as he pleased.
"I'll help within reason." She clarified. "But I am not your underling and I do not owe you more than I am already willing to do. You show an inkling of betrayal and I'll turn your knives on you." She looked to where his eyes should be, looking to drive her point home as she repeated her question, her voice firm. “How long have you been here?”

He wanted to rip her apart. To set her aflame and be done with it. But now hardly seemed the time to do away with the only familiar face he’s seen in the city. Perhaps once he had his weapons back… Killing without them felt wrong so until then he would have to make do. That is unless he changes his mind as the erratic prince was prone to do.
Bringing his hands behind his head he walked towards her, half circling around so that would would end up to the right of her.
“How mean. Thought famiglia was here to help.”
She could feel his malicious intent. His violent thoughts were almost palpable and Lal thought that perhaps she had gone too far. Maybe voiced her thoughts a little too true, but then she said what she felt and if the prince was offended then maybe he needed to reassess his life. A prince without a kingdom is no prince, after all.
"Help." She scoffed. "Not carry you and do what you are capable of doing." She didn't like him at her side, no mafia would, and he was smart enough to play on her nerves without drawing blood. She shifted her stance to face him again. "How long have you been here?" What weapons do you have?
Under her cape, Lal gripped her pacifier, ready to ignite the only flame she had been allowed for the moment. Ready to subdue the blond if it came to that.
“Only caterpillar here.” He even makes a point to look around. Or, rather, turn his head so it appeared he was. In truth his hidden gaze remained on the other lest she took the opportunity to strike. “Is the caterpillar blind too?”
“The prince is never lost~” he replied, ignoring her first question. Whether she assumes it because he is, in fact, alone or may actually have hidden allies is of no concern to him. Instead he’d rather see which way she’d lean and the reaction towards whichever assumption was made. It could end up telling him just how set in this city she was, if he was lucky. “Could use a servant or two though.”
“Funny, considering I’m not the one with the obscured view.” Even so, she could feel his gaze on her, even as he faked looking around, that chill of being the object of his interest never left. She didn’t blame him, she was guilty of the same behavior, but rather from behind reflective glass instead of unruly bangs.
"If you're the type of man that needs servants around, you're no man at all." She watched carefully for his reaction. "Hardly of the Varia quality I've heard so much about and even less than a caterpillar yourself."
