They were very soft. Inside and out.

Leveled a signature look at her. The edge hadn't dulled none, but something in it had. When she flicked his collar. Stern, but not action taken. She was such a little shit of an instigator and he knew that. Friendly enough not to take it as an invitation of fist--most of the time.

"I've managed to keep these sunglasses intact for about 425 days in a row and would like the streak to grow." Wouldn't put it past her to do some thing to them after that. He also was steering the topic.

Shifting her shoulders back, Enya returned the stare, though the intensity was far more lessened in comparison to his with her squint. Maintaining her position, she raised a hand and held one finger to her nose. Not a hint of obvious humor or a smile as she replied, "Le's go fer Tau'en, yeh? Fair nough number."

The distraction was, in a subtle sense, welcomed. It's not like the conversation could of really gone anywhere else besides violence, described or enacted, and while she was capable of handling what he threw her way, she was too tired to bother. Still, she was curious by nature. The change of questioning was, at the very least, potentially less volatile. For now.

"Why're y'hafin kids, anyways," said as she dropped her hand, blinking at him. Did straighten her back just a bit more to try to equal their heights, but that was mostly unintentional. "Yer like, unendin er wha'ever, yeh?"

Took him a moment to understand 'thousand' in her accent. But when he did, "That's the spirit."

He didn't want to answer her forthright. His mouth twisted in hesitation. That is a very personal question, Enya. Not that you have concepts of boundaries when it comes to other people.

However, she wasn't mortal either. It's a fair question. "For love. Not legacy."

Legacy was a mortal concept of procreation for certain. He was a being that 'grew' in a communal society that called itself a 'family'. He'd split it in half, killed more than a few, and lost the part that stuck with him to Hell. These people were his. His family. So were the children. A manifestation of that sense of familial community. And his love.

....his lip did a laughter-wobble, and he dug a cat-charm out of his pocket (yes, he just keeps these things on him now) and offered it. "Here, slap it on yer favorite person and find out!"

Gave the bracelet a bit of a look. Well, Rook did express interest. And if he hadn't already gotten one from Lark--there was a prank to be had with Vox. So he took it.

"We'll see."

"You'll see!" Lark announced, "And I'll jus' be happy you accepted it! And that you didn' get mad at me when I turned yah into a cat."

He was still quite honestly baffled that nobody got mad at him for that.

"Ah, it was you, huh?" To be fair, the connection wasn't one that was strongly made during that time until afterward when things had settled. Also, easily blamed on that form of chaotic magic that whirled amongst them sometimes.

"That is what people tend to say about deals with your side of things, usually." Well, perhaps less the Disney lyrics. But he'd also been cautioned about making Deals.

"No, not really. It took a century and a half before I heard about any sort of blood drinking creatures in stories and news from travelers. My sire was never keen on sticking around long enough to tell me much of anything, let alone any rules." And longer still after that before he met any of them, and none so far had the same conditions or experience as he did. It was very frustrating.

"I imagine having to deal with a variety of arcane rules gets tiresome? Especially for someone who was... purportedly," he clarified, "something of a rule-breaker from the start?"

Everyone sigh a relief that Rene kept the DISNEY part to himself.

"Any contract is suspect. Mortal courts to supernatural brokers." Was all he said about that. He existed in the details every time. For or against.

His hackles did rise. Not at Rene specifically. He'd lived the gilded cage for a while, too. Lot of pawing around outside of it, maybe. Curiously sniffing between the bars. Then came an age. He came of age. Got harder to stay in it.

Broke out of it just to find another one. A bigger one. A colder one. His mouth settled back into an even line. No more hinted, blocky, teeth. Unraveled more of what it meant to be Lucifer.

It's a sore spot.

"There's order to it. To my role." He started slowly. "Rules are necessary, but so is learning to bend them. Break them when they don't serve. I hold to them when they do."

"Noted," he noted aloud, notingly. "If they need my formal acknowledgement that I am not presently in need of divine intervention or intercession against... being very slightly harangued, they can have it." He didn't sense he was in immediate danger here; it would have come far sooner, he presumed, if it were coming.

"If they do want to give Envy a smiting or two instead, that would be very appreciated," he added after a moment, hands briefly clasped back together. "Amen." The traditional finish.

"I did somewhat assume that may have been the case when I was allowed to keep taking communion and walking into churches and whatnot without bursting into flame or being reduced to a pillar of salt." Since he hadn't gone down the Atheist route or anything else, his faith still held water. Nice to have it somewhat confirmed, though, he supposed.

Lucifer's expression grew drawl.

"Sometimes that shit is like making a genie wish, as well." He admonished. Feeling a bit stifled with all the prayers going on around here. "As it goes in the song, sometimes you don't get what you want. You get what you need."

That's what everyone gets when Eli decides to leave it to his sky drones to sort the messes on their own.

"Not an especially helpful detail, I'd assume. Being a freakish predator instead of something with arcane rules."

René would briefly reflect on no one really grabbing each other by the shirt these days-- at least, it had been a while since the last time he'd experienced it. Even with his volatile and terminal case of Unable to Shut Up disease.

"Angels can't do as much as you'd think, but if you go spouting that at me, specifically, it'll get attention. They can do something about me." Mostly be fucking annoying or violent. Or both. Depending on who took an interest.

"Not about...you." He moved his fingers in a dismissive wave to all of the vampire. Not an unclean spirit of God or whatever in origin. Not their collective wheelhouse.

He didn't think of that, that prayer may have some kind of negative effect on a Fallen Angel, or the Devil, or whathaveyou. He just thought they were having a moment.

And then it was a different sort of moment, his eyebrows climbing as he was pulled in by his shirt.

It did have him cutting off the prayer, though, lips pressed together.

"... I suppose that may have been somewhat gauche?" he guessed.

Lucifer took a Look around for a beat long before answering.

"You think so?" Biting, but less vehement. Ugh. Feckless. He let go of fabric and pat it smooth somewhat heavy handedly.

"Don't attract unwanted attention."

✦ How do you feel about your spouses/partners?

"That is a LIST." He grumbled about the ardorousness of the task. Then thought better of it.

He loved lists, really. He loved little things with bullet point.

He loved paperwork and order.

Anyway, he shoved a completed penned out paper.

Irene; Consort (Spouse)

Irene worries too much about performance. She's endearing in her determination, but I often have to remind her to just...relax and enjoy a moment. Be authentic. Worry less about the role she wants to fill--I don't want her to fill one. At least not with me. She's also resilient. I get the impression I cause her more stress than joy. She's not very disheartened by that. I appreciate her fire. And her whimsy, even if it's far more sexually toned than mine. Humans need whimsy.

Vox; Co-King (Spouse)

It's a bit of a funhouse mirror situation. There's a mutual comfort in clinging to each other in bad storms. We want to protect each other, but we aren't always able and that's tough for both of us to swallow. He's got his theater kid over the top dramatics, he's always selling something to somebody, and he can be charismatic for it. I did fall in for his charm. There's also this hidden part that's very...sensitive and willing to be awed by what enamors him.

Skara; Partner (Sometimes Antagonist)

Every once in a while you hear a noise. Again and again until that noise seems to be part of the background. Until it's a comfort, the noise is always there and it should be. I know she's a facet of Balance, same as me. When I met her, she was an agent of it. Always butting in and fighting a tide. Battered down by it, but never swept away. I know that doesn't change even we hole up together sometimes. Always at my back or in my way.

Rook; Consort (Spouse)

Rook has earned my every kindness and weakness. That's that. If it wasn't for his efforts to break down the barriers and put down a draw bridge in me, the others wouldn't have stood a chance. He knew me before my attitude turned. Rook is a man that sees someone suffering and offers comfort. Mainly by food, but often by intimacy and persistence. He wants people in dark caves to come out and feel the sun.

He would give him that moment.

Something happened in the past couple of years that the words that fly out of Rene didn't hurt like they were supposed to. No discomfort, not even a radiant warmth of a sun too close to his skin.

Still, he startled. Reached out and got hold of two handfuls of Rene's shirt, dragging him over and closer. "Shh!"
