Alastor did not care much about the logistics of the holograms. He'd hear about it later, surely, snuffing in frustration at the stupid phone in hand before deciding to not respond. Instead, he gathered a few things for himself and paused, however briefly, to inform Husker that he would be absent, for a time.
An undetermined amount of time that he would not elaborate on.
But the next time Vox heard from him, it would be very much in person, the swell of inky shadow finding its way to Vox's proverbial dungeon in which he'd secluded himself. Alastor had not bothered to dress himself in any real formal manner, knowing that it was only Vox who would see him, having pulled on a rather over-sized blue-grey hoodie for the sake of comfort.
Probably for the best. Once he made himself present in the screen-filled room, he could sense that this was not the time nor place to expect formality anyway.
"You've been in here for months?" He said aloud, incredulous.
The lack of answer was...concerning. Was Alastor pissed at him? He was totally pissed at him and taking this personally, wasn't he? Vox groaned and dragged his claws down his screen as he leaned back in his chair. "Fuck!"
If he sent any more texts trying to explain himself, he'd probably come off as whiny and annoying and Alastor already barely tolerated having a modern phone in the first place!
Just as he was ready to sulk some more, the presence of the other overlord did not go unnoticed, but Vox still startled by Alastor's voice.
"Mother FU-!"
Vox swerved his chair around and squinted at Alastor, crossing his arms while trying not to look like he was self conscious about his very clearly messy depression cave.
There were a lot of discarded empty take out boxes, energy drink cans and the like strewn about. Not exactly caring about cleaning up after himself. Clothes weren't looking much better. His suit jacket had been discarded and he was still a little damp from his earlier swim in the shark tank when he couldn't even be bothered to fully dry off.
"Could've warned me you were coming over, you know, I might've...I dunno, attempted to call someone to clean up," he muttered at the end, screen dimming.
"Look, after everything went down, I was delegated to fixing everything and what Vel and Val don't have time to deal with. They're essentially running my side of the company on top of their own. I have to prove to them I can still do this. Bring my approval rating back up. Even if I have to stay in the shadows for who knows how fucking long -"
Vox knew he was rambling, a bit too high strung in the moment while trying to defend himself. He brushed back at his antennas, chuckling nervously. "I'm back up ten percent. So it's working! People are trusting me again, because I get the work done. I always get the work done."
He was behind on emails. They were always fucking endless. But Alastor was here. His eyes flickered, bordering on manic.
"Can I get you a drink?"
[txt]: I am worth more than a phone call.
Huffing to himself, Alastor wanted to be irritated. But the last bit of Vox's second message was enough to give him some significant pause. He'd never thought the other to be so timid about returning to form.
It was enough to throw a few red flags in the back of his mind.
[txt]: You're not avoiding me specifically?
Just a quick gut-check. To see if he could effectively leap over his annoyance.
[txt] obviously! that's not what i meant. ugh, no one understands how the holograms work whatever
Vox rubbed at his screen to work away some of that eyestrain of a headache. He'd downed a few pills with his coffee earlier, but they'd only taken some of the edge off.
For now, he supposed, he'd click away from the cameras and pull himself away from company emails and HR bullshit from Val's side to stay focused on the conversation.
[txt] no of course not. I haven't visited anyone in person-person in months, really. I've had visits to ME, but...I think you're the first one to have caught on.
[txt] matter of time I guess
▹ @voxtekcrown
[txt]: I am not stupid and neither are you.
[txt]: The signals are different. I know when it's you and when it's not.
[txt] okay but it IS me. Just because I'm not physically there in person doesn't mean I'm not! It's like a phone call! but with presence!
[txt] makes it so i can practically be everywhere at once without stressing out. I've been working ever since I got my body back, I can't leave my room without everything going tits up.
Which was...partially true. A lot of it was just the fear of the public in general after his meltdown. Among other things. Stepping out of his office just didn't sit well with him. And he'd tried! Each attempt just had him slinking back inside in shame.
[txt] Care to explain why I am only now realizing that you are avoiding me? It may have taken him a day or two to realize what had felt so off about their last exchange, but he was no fool. He got there eventually. 🦌🔪
Ah, fuck.
[txt] ha ha whaaat? we just pal'd around like last week or whatever right?
[txt] you know how it is with work these days! especially after everything. damage control! busy busy

10/10 perfect no notes
Unbeknownst to most, if not all, the real Vox had been cooped up in his office - surrounded by all his screens and wallowing in continual self pity (with the occasional self hatred), while keeping himself busy with surveillance and work.
Every appearance outside of that had been his perfectly enhanced hard light hologram copies. All linked to his consciousness, so it was as if he was everywhere he needed to be. He was lucky the power needed for that was easily sustainable on the other hell he had wormed his way into. If his approval ratings still sucked over here, he had over there to overcompensate.
Either way, it was only now that Vox decided to crawl out of his self-made isolation, if only to allow himself to enjoy the company of his sharks. He let himself sink down into the aquarium tank, adjusting to the sensation of water brushing up against the gill-vents. He hadn't done this in a while and it showed in how he just let himself sink.
Even Shok.wav swam closer to give a curious nudge, almost worried, before Vox pressed a hand on that biomechanical face and patted it. He was fine. Mostly.
Maybe he just needed a break from it all. It was quieter in here, darker. With only his face to light it up, his sharks to join him in their mechanical bioluminescence.
He wondered if this was what real death would've been like, if he'd been able to succeed. Vox blinked up at the surface above before he felt Shok.wav again, listening to the vibrations that sounded almost like worry. If he bothered to check his messages, he was sure he'd get several 'BARK BARK BARK's. Sigh.
Vox rested his screen against the giant shark's side, petting a reassuring hand once more. Couldn't let himself spiral like this. It was stupid, anyway.
Eventually, he swamp back up to the surface and climbed out, pulling out a miraculously dry towel from inside his screen void to dry off. "See? Nothing to worry about," he muttered, wiping his screen down the most as he grinned back at the mechanical shark who peaked its head out of the water. The camera eye gave a little squint before it sank back down into the tank.
"Great, now I'm being judged by my own pet," he muttered.
The room was quiet, save for the distant audio feeds from the screens playing in the back. The thought of returning to all of that made the pulsing sensation behind his eyes grow ever more aggravating, but he knew he had to. To make it up to them. Keep the company running perfectly after all he'd done to screw it up.
Wasn't the first time he hadn't felt the red sky in months.
He cracked his back with a groan and switched out of his swimwear and back into his suit. "Enough bitching, back to work..."
"So intent on warning everyone about the big, bad radio demon," he coos, smushing himself obnoxiously against the side of Vox's big, stupid head.
"One might think you have a crush on me."
The tips of his antennas gave a spark, straightening up as Alastor smushed up close against him. Vox's screen wasn't doing any better, fuzzy with static and color bars before eventually calming down to a simple screen burn.
"Ew, as if," he huffed, playing it off as he crossed his arms. Unfortunately, Vox definitely wanted to wrap those arms around Alastor instead, claws twitching against his arms. Playing it SOOO cool.
"You're welcome." Don't pretend like Vox wasn't the reason he was being gassed up right now.
whats this poor serial killer tv demon to do when his list of people he can't kill keeps GROWING DEVANG????
WHAT WILL HE DO WITH HIMSELF WITHOUT A WORKPLACE ACCIDENT FOR WORTH NOW?

GODDAMN look at the size of that fucking--
He stared at that hand so menacingly engulfing his shoulder and gave a nervous little chuckle of his own. Sometimes you just didn't know the scale of something until it was right up against you....
He would duck away from that hand though, and brush off his shoulder. Fix his face.
Ahem.
"I will, I will. Jus' wanted to make sure there's really no chance for an all day Star Trek marathon. I don't do contracts but I could do a favor in return? Get yer dry cleaning? Untangle all yer cords? Blow into all yer HDMI ports to get th' dust out?"
SHRUGGED.
"I'm sort of doin' a favor for Alastor, in a way... Since apparently whatever medical stuff you guys got goin' on in THIS tower is only for premium subscription members." He still remembered Devang being taken down here after finally making it back from her interdimensional adventure.
Vox was ready to grip that shoulder after it started trying to escape his grasp, but his phone dinged after he had sent a mental text off to Devang. When the conversation continued between them and he finally waved the text holograms away from his vision, his expression shifted somewhat, fake smile shifting into a brief scowl before an eyeroll at Worth.
He rubbed the brow center of his screen. "I don't need a favor from the likes of you. Anything I couldn't have gotten topside before, I can get easily on my own now." Vox waved a hand dismissively.
But the mention of Worth getting involved with Alastor at the hotel again had him holding back a groan. "Ugh, listen. Devang's concerned. If Alastor puts you up to anything you can't handle, you either let me or her know."
"Cuz I needed a vacation, an' I heard there's a real killer nightlife down here."
Actually slapped his goddamn knee at that one! He knew he was pushing it, but at least Vox wasn't counting down to his doom this time.
"But nah, I actually uh..." He paused a moment. Looking away and seeming to gather his thoughts while he scratched the back of one ear. Then he just shrugged. It was easy enough to just tell the truth.
"I came down here lookin' to yell at Alastor. Lark was talkin' to him an' I felt some kinda way about it, since he's had trouble with demons in th' past, but then Alastor ended up tippin' me off to th' fact that you guys don't really got any doctors down 'ere! Not at th' hotel anyway, an' so I kind of uh... offered my services. For a while."
Some of the truth, anyway.
Vox put on his best PR smile to hide the radiant malice pouring off of him in waves right now. Was it Alastor who put him up to this? It was Alastor, wasn't it? Fucking -
A subtle eye twitch at the mention of Lark before he breathed in and gave a forced chuckle, resting a overly large hand on Worth's shoulder. Obscene how Vox's claws and palm encompassed a normal person's shoulder.
"Great. Very informative. Have fun at the hotel. It's not my problem. Now get the fuck out of my building."
He could have said something about being called pussycat but it seemed pretty tame compared to the kind of names he'd been expecting right off the bat.
The tablet and the offered contract just had him rolling his eyes, pushing it away with one hand. "No, I'm not signin' any contracts, I don't do subscription plans, an' I don't pay premium for anything." He fished his cell phone out of his pocket and shook it in Vox's general direction. "I don't even have a monthly PHONE plan! This shit is topped up whenever I get th' money!"
He wouldn't be reading any fine print because demon deals were off the table for him! (At least any more of them.)
Vox looked even less impressed at hearing all this. "Are you expecting preferential treatment? Go home. Or live like the bottom rung. Don't know what else to tell you. I don't do freebies. Why are you even in hell in the first place?"
He doubted it was for anything good, who came here willingly, especially if you were mortal? Idiots, that's who!
ooc;
going to my first pride event tomorrow aaaa excited!!!
@voxtekcrown continued from [here]
No, Worth hadn't become a sinner yet but he was still ready to bother Vox a little bit. He shrugged and inspected a few of his own claws.
"Oh no, they're fine, they're good an' all, it's like-- Lots of screamin', can't go wrong with that. But I like what I like, an' I don't mind askin' for it."
The audacity...
Vox's smile turned sharper, eyes partially narrowed as his hands neatly folded behind him as he leaned forward. "Then I suggest you go on home, pussycat. Unless you want to sign onto our premium channel deal for Earth shows..."
He raised a hand to snap a finger, making a tablet and a contract appear on the touch screen, expression bored. It'd cost Worth his soul if he ever cancelled, of course. Always read the fine print.
