As she draws a connection between the idealized forms of Greco-Roman sculpture and the performative images on social media, Greven investigates the timeless pursuit of beauty and its attendant disappointments.

Utermohlen (1933–2007) was best known for a series of self-portraits he created after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1995. These portraits documented the progression of his condition. The first portrait shown here, dating from 1967, predates his diagnosis and represents his earlier, figurative style.
