âââ I mean, I could pretend that I didnât see that but we both know it happened soâŚ.care to explain?â
âWhat? I was hungry?â Brooke replied with a nonchalant shrug and a smirk thrown at the man. So she had eaten three hot dogs in pretty rapid succession. So what? Brooke was a chowhound and almost everyone knew to approach her cautiously...and with food.
Holding her little boy in her arms, Lisbeth did her very best not to panic. Though, it wasnât entirely working. âPlease, you have to help me. I donât whatâs wrong, he had a cold and now heâs struggling to even stay awake and his coughing is worse and I donât what to do.â A few tears fell down the motherâs cheeks as she cooed into Cooperâs ear gently as he whined. âShhh, itâs okay baby itâs all going to be okay.â
The panic in the womanâs voice was what caught her attention. Once she started actually listening, Brooke inwardly, rolled her eyes. Calling an ambulance or heading towards the hospital would be the obvious thing, wouldnât it? Still, she took a deep breath and tamped down her annoyance. Not everyone was levelheaded in a crisis. Most people were not like Brooke, in and out of trouble almost every day.Â
Making sure her motorcycle was locked, she hurried over to the woman. âHere, let me help youâ she said, trying to be kind. âLetâs get you to the hospital. Have you called an ambulance?âÂ
This damn cold. Piper was spending more money on tissues and flu medicine than she was on food recently. Holding a coffee carefully in one hand, she searched for the packet of tissues sheâd stashed in her coat. She continued to walk as she rummaged. Sheâd been so amused by the amount of pockets this coat had when sheâd bought it. Now? Now, she sifted through in frustration. As her hand slipped into the inside of her coat, searching the inside pocket, she collided with someone. Her coffee spilled over the both of them, as she staggered backwards, pulling her hand free, with a packet of tissues between her fingers. She cursed.
Brookeâs phone had rung at precisely the wrong moment. It was her work phone, instantly causing a shot of adrenaline to run through her veins. A bomb? was her first thought--she was ashamed to say an eager one. Unfortunately, it distracted her for enough time to let some idiot run into her. She managed to pull her phone back in time from being splashed by the coffee, but her clothes were not so lucky.Â
âFor fuckâs sakes!â she yelled, glaring at the person who had run into her. Her adrenaline spiked again, ready for a fight, wondering if this had been intentional, someone targeting her. Brooke was suspicious like that.
âI promise you that I have been through a lot worse.â Liliana replied with a sigh from her lips. âThey are just keeping me here to monitor me and one they realize that I am okay aside from a few bruises and scrapes then theyâll let me out.â She stated very calmly. âSometimes this sort of thing comes with the territory of being a police officer. The only thing that sucks is this place wonât let anyone bring Petra⌠I am sure sheâs been worried sick these past few weeks.â The huntress stated restless in her hospital bed.Â
âYou donât have to explain it to me,â Brooke smirked, waving away Lilianaâs explanations. âI know how it is.â Cops and soldiers made the worst patients. Brooke knew, having been one herself a couple times, and having visited friends in the hospital before. âIâm glad to see youâre all right though.â Part of the territory that came with being a police officer was being visited by the brothers and sisters in blue. âWant me to go check on her? Iâm sure they wonât be able to refuse if I badge my way in here with her,â she offered, smile growing a little.Â

âHow often do you go hunting?â Back to this again. Back to the diner and a cold cup of coffee with Brooke sitting in front of him. It wasnât as desperate as a time at least, Naomi was back. But that left Myles with an underlying feeling he couldnât quite shake. He could be doing more to help out, not hunterâs, but people in general. He was rusty, defending himself was possible under certain circumstances. âIâm notâŚ..Looking to get back into anything. Itâs been years. I guess it just didnât occur to me exactly how vigilant Iâd have to be here.â @brooke-no-argument
âOften enough,â Brooke shrugged. âWhen thereâs a need. I keep an ear out.â There were plenty of scummy people--and creatures--in the world, and Brooke was only too happy to help get rid of them. She skimmed through the papers, files, crime reports, knew how to read between the lines. She could tell when there was more to an incident or story than appearances suggested. She bit back a smile. He was so quick to pull back, to explain his interest as curiosity. So young, and he had already decided that Hunting wasnât for him. She ignored the inner voice that reminded her that she had been younger than Myles when she had first considered giving up the lifestyle.Â
âThe years donât matter if itâs something you want. Or not,â she shrugged again, in no way pressuring him. She didnât care one way or another if Myles never hunted again. Brooke had learned a long time ago that she could only control herself and her own actions. Anything else she managed to influence was a bonus.
She shook her head, chuckling. âMyles, itâs NYC. The Big Apple. Everyone comes here. Youâd have to be vigilant even without the supernatural.âÂ
âOh I love, love this song.â, Anais pivoted in her seat to the person sitting next to her, a grin spreading across her lips as her eyes darted towards the crowd that was gathered at the part of the tent where space had been cleared out for dancing. The speakes blared the first few guitar riffs and in a flash the witch was already getting up, hands offered out expectantly as she moved her shoulders in the rhythm of the beat - if she was determined to do anything, then it was to make people have fun in spite of the bad memories, one by one if that was what it took, âOkay come on, get up, this is a kidnapping.â, she wiggled her fingers, a playful, Chesire grin spread across her lips, âLook, there are cotton candy and a Ferris wheel ride in this for you, my treat. You canât possibly say no. Who says no to cotton candy?âÂ
âOh trust me, I can. That shit is disgusting.â Cotton candy was a sugary, sticky mess that offered no nutritional value and didnât even taste that good. Oh Henry bars at least at peanuts. âIf youâre serious about it, Iâll take a corn dog and a pretzel.âÂ
âIâm just saying - what the hell did the donkey do to us? I know Eeyore is a big proponent of nihilism, but still.â, Hunter spoke to the person next to him as he pulled the blindfold off his eyes and reached for the plush toy of a white wolf that heâd just won. Oh, how he loved the irony of that. âShould we find it a Red Riding Hood to terrorize or do you want it?â, he stepped aside from the booth to let the excited 7-year-old give it a shot, and as he watched her take the tails he lowered his voice and spoke to his companion, âOkay, never mind that offer, we can win another one, just give me a second.â Hunt beckoned the guy manning to he booth closer and handed back the wolf, muttering something about just giving it to the girl even if she doesnât technically win anything. âThis shit is rigged, or maybe everyone usually just has too much to drink. Which, by the way, is not such a bad idea.âÂ
âRigged? Iâve won before,â Brooke smirked. âIf you want me to win you something, I could.â Normally, she wouldnât even bother to answer, but they had seen each other a couple times at Sanctuary. She knew he could fight. He knew she could. Besides, banter she could do. The Army had made her comfortable in a manâs world.

Vivian had just gotten off a long shift. The vampires that she served now occasionally bothering her if she had her hair up because they could see the slender scars. The witch would quickly shoot them a fuck off sort of glance and they wouldnât even mention trying to tap her for any sort of blood. One of her customers had been particularly annoying that night, so she decided to sit down at the bar a little before making her way home.Â
Sitting next to a woman that she could tell was not a regular, the witch looked at the bartender and said, âGet me something that is both fruity and strong. I donât really care what right now.â He nodded, completely understanding what his coworker was needing and turned to get it.Â
The other womanâs order confirmed what Brooke had been wondering. Of course they had to sell normal drinks here. Not everyone was a bloodbag. And the ones that were had to keep their strength up somehow. Though alcohol diluted the blood, making people bleed more. Had to be careful with shit like that. Brooke wondered idly to herself if vampires could get drunk off their meal if the person was wasted already.Â
âIâll have a shot of Jack,â she ordered when the bartender returned. âLong night?â she inquired towards the brunette, raising her eyebrows. The girl barely looked old enough to drink. Not that that had ever stopped Brooke either.
finnptrsâ:
âFair enough then,â the Peters said as he rose from his seat, removing his wallet from his back pocket. Taking out a few bills he tossed them onto the counter and tipped the bartender a goodbye, before looking at the woman. âHope you enjoy the rest of your night maâam.âÂ
Brooke snorted, almost inhaling her drink. âMaâam.â She shook her head, chuckling. Fuck did she feel old now. She took another sip of her beer.

âWorked like training?â She could guess police work just by looking at how the woman carried herself but didnât want to assume. âEver consider getting one yourself?â They were a lot of work but Addison couldnât deny the bright spot the dog at her feet had brought to her life the past few weeks heâd been in her care.Â
"Training, and actually in the field.â Brooke had great respect for K9 teams. Both dogs and handlers worked well together. If she hadnât ended up as a bomb tech, she thought she would have liked to be part of a K9 team. Dogs at least didnât let you down. âPlenty of times,â she chuckled. âBut I was always moving around or working too much.â In Afghanistan they at least had had camp dogs and cats, unofficial strays that the officials made sure to look the other way about.Â
jvnexâ:
âYou never know.â She offered, shrugging as she let the bottle slide into the space between her hands, then taking a swift sip. âMaybe your career isnât right for you. You like the thrill, but the circus thrill.â It was evident in the way Brooke acted that her occupation was exactly where she needed to be. Fierce and fearless, working as a bomb technician seemed right.
âI think Iâm a little old to runaway with the circus,â Brooke chuckled. She stretched her arms above her head. âBesides, I do like what I do.â Brooke had found what worked for her and she wasnât about to change that up. âBut if you decide to, youâll have my full support,â she added teasingly.
giaivanâ:
âThat would signal that I am some what interested in continuing this conversation,â Gia replied, boredly.
âAll right, Blondie,â Brooke shrugged and turned back to her beer.Â

âI know her, I know that she would have been looking for my roommate and I after seeing us there just like we were looking for her. She didnât come back to her apartment. I want you to listen.â Myles immediately regretted how sharp his tone was and he looked from Brooke to the table between them. Being angry wasnât something he was in the business of doing, but being frustrated, that he could live with. It had been something heâd been living with. Since that whole sickness had stricken the city, since heâd had to just sit back and watch everything happen. At some point the guilt heâd tried so hard to ignore, that voice that repeatedly asked him âare you sure you made the right choiceâ had gotten louder. This was supposed to help with that, to soothe the voice and remind it that he didnât need some blessing to help people. âIâm planning on going to the police, but I wanted..â To talk to someone who knew what was going on. Someone who understood. It was a foreign feeling, but an almost welcome one. Seeing her, sitting here with her like this, if he closed his eyes, he could picture himself back at home. Letting out a sigh, he gave a shake of his head, looked from the cold cup of coffee on the table back to her. âWhat are we up against here? Like actually?âÂ
He was a good kid, Brooke would give him that. And she was flattered that he had thought to call and ask her. Well, flattered underneath the annoyance. She was no oneâs personal Hunter, nor was she a private investigator. But she could appreciate that Myles was worried about his friend. âIâm listening,â she said, a little softer. She knew when people were being jerks or trying to tell her what to do just for the hell of it, and she knew that wasnât what was going on here. Mylesâ concern made him impatient. Worry made him angry.Â
âOkay, so she didnât come back to her apartment,â Brooke said, shifting in her seat to face Myles head on. Her hands folded around each other on the table. âHow do you know she didnât go spend some time with family, friends, a boyfriend maybe?â She held up a hand to forestall any protests. âIâm not dismissing your concerns, Iâm just looking at all the possibilities.â She knew what he was asking when he wanted to know what they were up against. Frankly, the police force and the rest of the supernatural community was trying to figure that out too.Â
julianxrhodesâ:
âOh, trust me got a long ways to go before theyâre born but Iâm already afraid Iâll win the overprotective parent award when they are.âÂ
âIâm sure that kid will be well protected,â Brooke snorted. Not only by Julian but by his family and all of their friends.Â

jvnexâ:
âI will, just to see you do that trick one more time. Exactly, and I can see you having a knack for it. Just take a few classes and maybe youâll find out you were always meant to be a circus performer. Strong woman and trapeze artist.â Their conversation more or less sounded like one sheâd have with her cousins, though without the many twists and turns the Jarvises tended to take for no apparent reason when their brains happened to be on one subject.
Brooke smirked. Lifting the bottle to her mouth, she repeated her earlier manoeuvre, easily removing the cap. She grinned at JJ and slid the bottle back towards her, flashing her still perfect teeth at the younger girl. âSomehow I donât think thatâs going to happen,â she shook her head ruefully, though still smiling. Acrobatics would be a thrill, but so was diffusing bombs.
addisonxvaleâ:
âMaybe, he spends most of his time inspecting every other fucking thing so youâre probably not wrong.â Addison snorted at the mention of thunderstorms and shrugged, âyou know what? I think more so when Iâm not around,â and he could feel her calm, âbut otherwise, heâs pretty chillââ do you have a dog?â
âMakes sense,â Brooke nodded. Animals could sense things in the atmosphere, but they could also sense the moods and of their owners. She shook her head, a rueful smile touching her lips. âNo,â Brooke shrugged. âBut Iâve worked with a few.âÂ
