âI feel like heâs not going to complain about too many chocolate chips.â Actually, Myles would be willing to bet that Vasa would complain if he saw too much cookie to chocolate ratio. He was out of bounds of his momâs recipe, just eyeballing it, dropping in an extra handful of chips into the batter. Picking up the wooden spoon beside the bowl, he started stirring in the extra chocolate before looking over to where Isadora sat at the kitchen table. It was kind of funny, actually. To be baking with someone who didnât really need to eat. Heâd thought that she might find baking kind of boring when heâd suggested it, but there she sat, invested with her fingers covered in flour. âThe real question is, do you think I should just double up the recipe now? We know heâs gonna tryânâeat all of them in one sitting.â @isxdcrx
jvnexâ:
     ââ yeah.â She huffed between motions. Her hands always returned to their resting position inches from her face, acting as a barrier. Stray strands of hair were ignored as she focused on the task at hand. âSo your brothers took the blessing and you didnât? Why?â When she first learned of Mylesâ past, she truly thought he was lying just to get a rise out of her. That never went well. It was left at the bare minimum of details for a while, but she was curious. So, she bit. âYou just⌠opted out.â And that made absolutely no sense to her. She just didnât get it. Hunting? Her whole life; she couldnât imagine it a smidge differently.
The question caught him off guard as he tried to get back into proper stance. He hadnât really had to discuss his choice with another hunter before. Not one that wasnât already family. Myles struggled to find words that wouldnât cause some kind of argument. A discussion was fine, he could do that. In fact, he kind of wanted one. Itâd been years and he hadnât ever really gotten into it with anyone. âIâd like to think maybe Iâd have reconsidered if the environment was different.â Shifting his feet, he tried to mimic her stance, tried to think of himself as lighter. âI think my family had good intentions, but something got twisted along the way.â Heâd like to think at one point the Hartâs hadnât been so black and white when it came to the supernatural, thereâd once been gray area. At least for the wolves, maybe thereâd been a time when they hadnât been spoken about with such obvious disdain. Hell, maybe he could hold onto hope that things were different at home right that moment.
âUmâŚâ Shifting his weight and lowering his arms a bit, Myles readied himself for another round. âWhat about you? Whyâd you take it?â
âCan we get fries after this?â Picking himself up for what felt like the hundreth time that day, Myles pulled at the front of the tank top stuck to him with sweat. He should have known JJ wasnât going to go easy on him. She was too competitive during board games to not be the same way when it came to this kind of thing. Itâs not like he thought her a poor teacher, however. She seemed pretty quick to point out any flaws in his technique and offer tips on how to correct it. @jvnex
@myleshart
âYouâre not too bad, Hart.â Vasa was grinning from ear to ear, on the other side of the sparring mat. It had taken long enough, but Myles had finally agreed to allow the Rhodes to drag him into a sparring match. Vasa wasnât trying to go easy on the other, but he was mildly holding back â for now. âAnyone ever tell you youâre cute when youâre all sweaty?â
âIâm rusty.â Straightening up and smoothing the front of his hair back, Myles gave a slight nod in Veeâs direction as he tried to collect himself. Heâd be more amused if he werenât so out of breath. He knew this whole thing wasnât going to be easy, Vee did this kind of stuff often. The last time heâd actively sparred had been at age eighteen before heâd left home. Despite not going into the family line of work, heâd still felt obligated to help with his brotherâs training. Their were four of them, they often paired off in the backyard at the end of the day. But itâd been three years and even though heâd witnessed the hunter in the ring at the Sanctuary multiple times before, he hadnât been prepared to actually take him on. âAnd your flattery isnât gonna change that.â

âYou know, I donât consider myself impatient, butâŚ.â Myles looked to the stone oven from the wooden table and let out a soft sigh. âHow much longer do you think we got?â Pie was serious business and theyâd spent a long time going over the lattice work already. It was more than a little nice, being able to have down time to bake. It wasnât his motherâs kitchen, but Kaia was knowledgeable and altogether nice to be around, so he at least got the same vibe from her. @kaia-knight

Vasa rose an eyebrow at Myles, trying not to laugh at the look on the other maleâs face. The Rhodes was currently sitting on the bar counter of the small kitchen, huffing out a laugh before he looked at Isadora, âYeah, she likes to cuddle. We can all share my bed if you need someone to hold you, Myles.â He looked back at the other, a smirk on his face since he clearly couldnât help himself at this point. âYou guys need anything? I donât really have a lot of food. But thereâs a pizza place that delivers.â
@isxdcrxâ
While sheâd almost fully expected Vasa to have already pieced together some near basic reasoning behind why they might have known each other, the jarring shock as he so carelessly spoke of something that may or may not have happened in the first place caused her to splutter a little on the blood bag sheâd emptied into the mug in her hand. âI â thatâs..â She cleared her throat, looking between them both before she settled a near guilt ridden look on Myles, âWe never..â Veeâs been helping with.. you know.â And truthfully, itâd been one of the only reasons sheâd agreed to seeing him in the first place, Vasa promised to help, and sheâd simply already been here when Myles suggested it. âHeâs right you know, he skips right over buy essential food items for bags of jumbo marshmallows and trust me, itâs really not pretty.â
Amused, Myles couldnât help but smile a bit at Isadora being caught off guard. It was something he didnât expect from her, heâd only ever seen her as kind and collected, even whilst distressed. Yes, this was going to work out just fine. It would seem they kind of shared the same kind of relationship with the hunter and that comforted him somehow, that they at least seemed on even footing. âJumbo marshmallows?â He raised his brows at Vasa and broke into a soft grin. âIs that what your diet consists of then? Jumbo marshmallows and tequila?â He could definitely afford to eat as much junk as he wanted, the way he must burn calories off in the ring. His attention shifted to Isadora but he leaned back in his chair and brandished a hand in the hunterâs direction. âI know him because I watched him fight one time and then he decided to either get me in the ring or get me really drunk.â
wyattnaomiâ:
âWell, I had to be if I wanted the job,â Naomi shrugged. âAnd I wanted the job.â God how she had wanted it. To have given up after everything she went through to get there would have been criminal in Naomiâs mind. Mallory was someone she wanted to learn from, and whether she had fangs or fins didnât change that. Naomi had beenâand still wasâdesperate to make something of herself, to go further than her family ever had or thought she would. Where else would she have gotten that type of opportunity?
âI guess it all depends what you learn and who from,â she offered up, understanding what he meant. Naomi had been given free rein to research and ask questions. And multiple species worked at BITE. Whereas if she was understanding what she was reading between the lines, Mylesâ education about the supernatural had been a lot less balanced.
âYeah. I guess so.â He thought about it every so often. How different things could have been had he headed to New York knowing nothing. Or knowing absolutely everything from a different perspective. Another state, another house, a family with a different profession. Myles wasnât really a âwhat ifâ kind of guy, he took things as they came and tried his best to just kind of deal with them. But those first few months away from home often had him lying awake and wondering. âIâd like to think things are better now. I have better people to learn from.â He flashed a soft smile in her direction before ducking his head to scratch the back of his neck, feeling a bit sheepish.

âSo um, you two know each other?â Myles looked between Isadora and Vasa as he sat at the hunterâs small kitchen table. Itâd seemed like a good idea, a way to combine two people he liked to be around. And a way to keep Isadora a little more comfortable. Theyâd texted since their last encounter, but he hadnât felt it appropriate to bring up meeting in person. When heâd thought about meeting in a group or with another person, Vee had been his first thought. Heâd been someone heâd been meaning to meet outside of the Sanctuary and he figured Isadora would maybe feel a bit safer being around him knowing there was a skilled hunter around. Not like he thought Vee was going to try anything, but heâd do anything to keep the original vampire from pushing him away. @isxdcrx @veexrhodes

Vasa shook his head, lifting another shot, âManuia, Myles.â The Samoan language flowed off his tongue much easier than English ever had, and the more he drank, the more difficult he found pronouncing all the words of the latter language correctly. âWhat do I do for cashâŚwell, I work here. As a bouncer. People donât really fuck with you when youâre the one leading the security detail. Whatâs the phrase? Head bitch in charge. Yep.â Vee smiled a little at Myles, genuinely interested in every word the other male had to say, âAre you New Yorkâs most sober twenty two year old? We all have our quirks, Myles. So maybe we should find a place with a dancefloor instead of a fighting ring.â
âI donât do the kind of dancing around here. Probably because Iâm definitely the soberest twenty-two year old in New York.â The idea was actually bizarre to imagine. Considering Myles knew he was mostly limbs, he didnât think he was particularly cut out forâŚ.Whatever dancing clubs held. Heâd been to many a school dance and had stuck against the wall, baffled by the whole event. However, being the youngest of four boys, he was the one paired off as âthe girlâ when it came to teaching each other to slow dance for said affair. Just because he could, didnât mean he particularly enjoyed it. Being in such close proximity was a necessity for such a thing and that was still uncomfortable. Choosing not to get into it, he nodded along to indicate he was paying attention. And then proceeded to dismiss a lot of what was said to focus on that word. âWhat language was that?â His curiosity was piqued, head tilted just a little.
wyattnaomiâ:
âWell, once I passed the hiring process and had accepted the jobâŚthey told me.â Naomi could still remember the thrill of being told she had been chosen for the position. She had had tingles from head to toe. âAnd then, well they told me there was more I needed to know and sat me down andâŚtold me.â She could still remember that too. The shock. The disbelief. Different employees of the various species had been brought in to show her. âIt led to a lot of homework for me,â she laughed ruefully. âI wanted to know everything and they needed me to.âÂ
âAnd you were okay with it?â Brows raised, Myles tried to imagine it, being told in recent years. Naomi had obviously taken it all in stride, had made a point to educate herself and just roll with things. Thatâs what he liked about her in general, that she was used to all this weirdness, accepted it was just part of life. âI grew up knowing about all this.â His free hand gestured vaguely about the room. âTo be cautious about all of it. Being here, has me unlearning all of that. Kind of.â Not every werewolf was out to kill someone, sometimes they were really just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ultimately they were all still people, just leading different kind of lives and thatâd been hard for his father to grasp.
wyattnaomiâ:
âYou donâtââ Naomi shook her head, and gave Myles a gentle smile. âIâm sure that would be nice.â She didnât want him to think she was pressuring him for information, or judging him for not going home. It was up to him and no one else. Naomi knew people who had left toxic relationships with their families. It was none of her business how they decided to deal or cope with it.Â
She laughed a little at his hesitation. At this point, it was just as much of her normal if not more so as spending time with humans. Strange, but true. âI mean, I spend most of my time at work, and I make friends soâŚyeah?â she shrugged a little helplessly, not exactly knowing what answer he wanted. âIâm kind of a workaholic,â she admitted. As if Myles didnât already know that about her. It wasnât something Naomi exactly hid. âI donâtâŚI donât really think about it, honestly. Too much.âÂ
âHow did you find out?â Myles rested a cheek against his right hand, content to just sit and listen to her talk. He imagined that Naomi had led a relatively normal life before taking on the job as Mallory Bordeauxâs assistant. Sheâd been thrown into all of this, he imagined she had a lot of stories to tell. âAbout Mallory, I mean.â The CEO, like all of the originals came across as some kind of mysterious entity. Sheâd been some kind of fairytale creature to him at some point, part of a story to tell. Finding out Naomi worked for her was like finding out she worked for Snow White. âI imagine it came as kind of a shock.â
Claireâs anxiety had shot through the roof. She had been up all night reading various texts trying to find anything about the Ouroboros. There has to be some record of them in history whether they went by that name or other. She just needed to clear her head too many thoughts invaded her mind. Not realizing the time she stepped out for some fresh night air.
âClaire?â It was later than heâd like it to be. Heâd gotten carried away trying to finish up fixing a clientâs faulty air conditioner. Walking around at night wasnât really something Myles liked to do period. His parents had given him and his brothers strict curfews growing up and thereâd been no going off of their own. Eyes scanned across the sidewalk and had fallen on the blonde. Her name was out of his mouth before he could really think about it. Speeding up a bit, he fell into step beside her, cheeks tinged a faint pink. âKinda late to be out, isnât it?â He meant it to be teasing, but he couldnât help but be just a little bit worried.
wyattnaomiâ:
Naomi shrugged helplessly, holding her hands out in an apologetic gesture. She wasnât even sure what she was making the move for, considering her brain was still trying to catch up with what exactly it was Myles was taking offense to. The supernatural beings had been a problem, but then also people were prejudiced against them? She sensed it had less to do with her and what she said and more to do with his own feelings and upbringing. âI didnât know about any of it for most of my life, so youâre going to have to forgive my ignorance.â
Her arm along the back of the couch, Naomi propped her head up with her arm as she listened to Myles. She didnât think she had fully realized it before, but it seemed that he had cut almost all ties with his former home. âYou-you donât ever see her?â she asked softly, hesitantly. Hoping she wasnât prying. âYou donât have to tell me,â she added as a disclaimer. It was none of her business, and she knew that. But she was also curious about what could have been so bad to make Myles not only move but supposedly not look back.Â
She smiled back, a bright flash to break the somber mood. âNot all of them, but a lot of them. And Iâve been in a room with all of them at one time or another,â she said. Naomi knew who all the immortals were in any caseâthough sometimes when faced with people like Claire, it was easy to forget. She had even been in contact with many of them through email or phone calls when arranging meetings or notifications. âNo official introduction in most cases,â she said with a slight laugh.Â
âItâs um, itâs fine.â Everything was fine with Naomi, she was a safe space. Itâs not like he minded talking about home all that much. If anything, the lingering emotions afterwards got to him more than the actual conversation. âMaybe Iâll go back and visit this summer.â Myles offered a small smile, gave a casual shrug of his shoulders. To see his mother only, meet her at their favorite bakery. While he missed his brothers, he didnât think he could see them without getting some kind of guilt trip. And he sure as hell didnât want to see his father.
Instead he chose to focus on what sheâd said about the Davenportâs. Originalâs, both vampire and wolf were a part of her everyday life, they were something she had to deal with. âDo you hang out with otherâŚ?â How did he phrase it? âPeople you know arenât human? Like I have Isadora and thatâs as far as I know.â Itâs not like he asked everyone. It didnât really matter, but he was curious. âI learned so much about everything growing up, but I havenât really encountered much.â Knowingly at least. He had suspicions about people sometimes, found himself looking for little things out of curiosity.

He tried not to laugh at the look on the other boyâs face, but a smirk tugged at his mouth anyway. âWant another?â he teased, though he was more than ready to keep giving Myles alcohol. One beer couldnât be fun. âI have plenty of time,â he grinned, flashing Myles a wink before he shook his head at the question. Truth was, no one really showed a mild interest in him â ever. He was usually too focused on the task at hand, and maybe he was too young to understand what some kind of commitment in a relationship would look like. Didnât mean he wasnât looking forward to trying, anyway. âYou could say that. I donât really know what Iâm doing with my life. Hunting doesnât exactly pay all the bills.â
The wink was almost worth another eyeroll. A facepalm, something like that. Instead Myles just gave a soft chuckle and shook his head at the offer for another shot. Hunting didnât pay the bills, thatâs why his family had always been so adamant they all learn a trade. His father had carpentry, two of three brothers were into mechanics. When heâd left, the last of them had been undecided. He himself had just been comfortable doing whatever repair work he could get with family connections and thatâd served him alright from Colorado to New York. âSo what do you do for cash then?â He was genuinely curious. Something told him Vee wasnât the type to be running off to the police academy. In fact, if he hadnât seen him fight, he wouldnât really believe the guy was a hunter. âAre you New Yorkâs most chatty waiter?âÂ
Kaia leaned forward not wanting the chocolate to drip from her strawberry on her way to her mouth, âDamn, what is it about melted chocolate that always tastes so good.â As she spoke she held her hand over her mouth, chewing whilst talking. She may be the type of person to talk whilst eating, but Kaia at least had the common courtesy to hide the food in her mouth behind her hand. âHonestly, I would go to a lot more of the events and parties Iâm invited too if the invitation said chocolate fondue on them.âÂ
âAny invitation to anything is an invitation to the snack table.â Myles dipped the strawberry at the end of his skewer into the chocolate with a slight nod to affirm the statement. That was the one thing he liked about anything fancier in New York, the food was great and the dessert table was never lacking. Pulling the skewer away, he turned it a bit to keep the chocolate from dripping. âI got into that big party at that one hotel a few months back.â The Beekman, now thatâd been a whole different out of body experience. The building was gorgeous despite being covered in the 80âs decor and it was definitely worth sneaking into. âChocolate fountain was huge and then there was just an entire table of things to be dipped into it.â
