Oswald rolled his eyes. He knew that Ed was serious about him guessing, because of course he was. He wouldn't be ~The Riddler~ if he wasn't constantly playing games, no matter what form they took.
He took a few moments before replying just to appease him.
"I don't know Ed, you haven't really given me much to go on."
Ed almost immediately replied back with a picture of a crow (or a raven? He had no idea what the difference was, come to think of itβ¦) perching on the top of a building.
Another message came through, "Did you know that ravens, crows, magpies, and other members of the corvid family can hold grudges against individual humans for years on end?"
"Sounds like another bird I know :]"
Oswald sighed upon reading the last message. He knew that Ed probably meant no harm by it, but the constant bird comparisons were tired on top of being insulting. Honestly, he couldn't even bring himself to be offended when that was the comparison's intended goal sometimes. Yes, he looked like a bird, he had heard it a million times before, could they at least be original if they were going to insult him?!
To be fair to Ed, he did manage to make it feel original sometimes if nothing else. It was a mere week ago that he sent him a picture of an advertisement showcasing the Gotham Zoo's flamingos, along with what was practically an essay comparing and contrasting them to penguins.
Oswald still felt flabbergasted every time he was reminded of it. Flamingos of all birds, for god's sake!

anyway the thing about fanfic is that it's not essentially bad or good; it's essentially amateur. some people are absolutely out there writing award-worthy prose (some fic writers ARE award-winning writers IRL!), but that's not the point. the point is that we're all telling campfire stories. it's a community, and it's a way to spend some more time in the worlds and stories that we love.
